Describe your character's life before the Apocalypse:
"I grew up viewed by some as a caring yet playful and competitive--somewhat prodigious--girl. I often fought and beat the local boys in wrestling matches, football, and other such activities alongside learning how to examine and work on my first computer by her father, a nice man who I eventually learned had worked for the CDC despite the disparaging distance from our California home to the facility, all at the age of 12. Cut to when I went to school, I was the type to stare at the clouds, so to speak, not listening to the teacher despite answering every question right when asked said questions to try and catch me not paying attention, a trait that eventually inspired and amazed her teachers. Ha! Joke's on them, eh?
In high school, I opted to go for advanced placement (AP) computer science courses with football and wrestling as my electives, and passed all of them with flying colors, passing so well that by the middle of my senior year, I had received a scholarship offer from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology along with numerous other schools due to my oh-so-great prowess with technology, an offer I accepted eagerly, of course. During my years of education, I had grown to love cars and motorcycles, working part-time at a local junkyard (with an old beatnik as my boss!) to earn pay for my own motorcycle or car when I could afford one. Sadly, I learned later in my 18th year of living that my mother left my father under the reasoning his repeated long-distance departures were the straw that broke her back. My mother had depression, and she didn't take such loneliness well, in that she killed herself. We went to her funeral, but I could not forgive my father for just leaving her alone, knowing full well what she was suffering from. It didn't kill my ambition, it only fueled its fire. What always made me cry, though...my father told me my mother said, 'don't say 'goodbye', we'll still meet for Alyson!', while she told me that I would see her again...how could I, now?!
Four years later after high school graduation, I, who had long since moved to Texas while my parents moved to the state of their own birth, Louisiana, had finally completed my 4-year Bachelor's of Science in Electrical Engineering from MIT, giving me the education and skills needed to work as a systems engineer. Oh, but I had my eyes set on something higher, much higher. At the tender age of 22, I braved the storm and had opted for recruitment into the United States Navy, eager to let my expertise with technology be accompanied with a physical lifestyle and descipline only the military could offer, and namely to make my mark on the world.
During my career in the Navy, I always aimed for the highest in my rate, my moniker and name being 'Tex' for 'Texas', and always ranking 1st or 2nd in every report to which, over the course of 21 years and some months, I eventually rose to the nigh-impossible-to-many rank of Master Chief Petty Officer, the highest Enlisted rank in the Navy and U.S. Coast Guard, though it was a notable mention that I had been scouted more than once for employment in the Navy SEALS, an offer I respectfully declined for some time before I eventually accepted. I was scouted back when I was an E-6, or Petty Officer, First Class, when I eventually took the job.
Some told me that I had to slow down in life, but how could I? I had it in my head that if I were to stop, I would fail not just myself, but my father who I knew still loves and supports me. I wanted to go back to my papa a powerful woman by my own merits, damnit! But because of that mindset, I just hate to lose, for fear of failure and rejection."
What happened to your character on Outbreak Day?:
"How could I ever forget that day, that dreadful time? It started as a normal mission, I had to infiltrate a small village in a foreign country with my team in search of a threat. The threat, in this case, being the plans of a ICBM that was being prepped for use against my country, and we had to stop it. That went without saying. What didn't, however, was what we encountered! We go into the village, but we found nothing but death. Bodies here and there, gore and guts all over the place, but the ones we did see upright and walking, we didn't see as a threat at first, not until it had taken a clean chunk of one of my teammates' hand. Angrily, I slammed the man that had bitten Jack, my teammate in question, face-first into the ground, apparently killing him as he didn't get up from that.
With this new threat and peculiarity, I decided to go back to our boat we used to get from our battleship since the village was a coastal one; after all, someone had to make sure the boat and supplies were safe, right? With my team's acceptance, I swam back to and got onto our boat and waited. Eventually, the team returned and we returned from our mission back to our ship. Not even the medical exams could save Jack, of course. Mysteriously, he died of what the medic said was a cardiac arrest by disease, which was odd considering how fit and healthy Jack was. While I was inspecting my gear hours later, having not yet changed out for bed, I heard something outside my cabin. Peeking outside, I saw a repeat of what was on the island: Jack was up and at'em...biting into the neck of another female, a Seaman by the looks, with numerous officers trying to pull him off before they, too, got bitten into. And more of what Jack was came minutes later...I saw those same men and the Private get up and devour others nearby. This was a lost cause, I knew it! I had to survive, who would believe me if I died, or that some mysterious illness was causing mass cannibalism?! So I managed to escape by lifeboat to the mainland, hoping to report to the higher ups, taking my chances that perhaps a warning can save lives..."
Describe your character's life after the Apocalypse:
"These days, I do what I can to survive in this hellish world. The sight of a zed doesn't bother me like it used to, I can take care of them with ease. Bandits and thugs, while numerous, are just like the guerrillas we used to kill back in my SEALS days. As long as there's compensation, I freelance and fight for the highest bidder no matter the assignment. I curse myself, though...because of my parents, I still cannot bring myself to say 'goodbye', I hate goodbyes. To my friends I happen to make on my adventures, forever a Master Chief it seems, I am fiercely loyal, or so I like to think. Needless to say, my life hasn't changed all that much, I just don't have a crew to look after or officers to report to. But abandoning my ship, my crewmates, that night left a massive chip on my shoulder, and my anger issues never help. I did learn a lesson that night, though: never abandon your team, or in my case, your family."
