Lila knew when to throw in the towel and the moment had come when the helicopter arrived and the massive amount of firepower attempted to fight back. It was a blur to her. There was no stopping what came next and she knew the hordes of walkers were coming. The noise would not stop that. The flare shot up in the sky would catch their attention and Sunrise would fall.
She liked the community, but she was still new, still unattached to the way of life here. As long as she had her truck and her guns, she could be mobile enough to get to safety and that's exactly what she did.
Before the chaos ensued, she ran back inside the safety of the gates that she feared would not be safe for long. There wasn't even enough time to tell Sean she was escaping. The only thing she knew is she had to get out now before her own life was lost. She knew the shame in just abandoning the community and she would probably never be allowed to go back, even if she went back with her tail between her legs.
As the engine of the truck roared when she started it, she ran into her house, grabbed her supplies, whatever she could carry, and made a dash for the side gate. With just her trying to sneak out, it was all she could do to open the gates herself, struggling since they were old and practically rusted shut giving anyone who may see her an inkling as to what she was doing. There was enough time to stop her...if the horde wasn't coming.
Once the gate was open, she had to close it again. It was the least she could do since the guilt weighed so heavy on her shoulders. She could stay and fight, she knew that, but chaos reigned supreme right now and the man that was barking orders while wildly firing off shotguns, automatic weapons and anything else he could get his hands on, was not about to be listened to by her. She also worried the man had done something to Sean since he had not come running out at the first sign of trouble.
Her mind was wild with possibilities as she finally got the gate shut and saw the sea of dead ambling towards the gates. "Jesus..." was all she could whisper as she put the metal to the pedal and tore out, across the grassy field, hitting the road and dodging the dead as fast as she could.
