Maryanne had spent some time at the Junkyard close by and found plenty of supplies to keep her going. There was enough gas to be siphoned from old vehicles that looked like they had not been attended to before all this broke out and the gas, just barely, was still usable as she sucked it out of the tanks of the junker cars that were driven in. Of course, it wasn't as much as she wanted, but it was enough to get by and that's all she could ask for these days.
She was incredibly conservative when it came to gas consumption and didn't get out too much but when talking to the old biker at the Junkyard, she discovered some people had come back and settled into a home at the old St. Mordeaux property. Maybe there was some conversation to be had and deals to be made.
Before heading off to the property, she went back to her own homestead and gathered up a few items to be traded off. She wasn't even sure what she would be able to get off the old property, but she remembered Ed and remembered he had a pretty thriving bait shop on the edge of the river. With any luck, maybe she could walk away with some fresh fish in exchange for one of her chickens and some eggs. Maybe they had ammo for a can of gas she acquired. Maybe some clothing for a few blankets. Whatever the case may be, they could both benefit from some sort of communication. That's how civilization had to rebuild.
She drove her pickup truck through the opening that was the driveway and saw the hand built gates as defenses down one side of the property. At the edge of the drive was a walker that had skewered itself into one of the posts, probably going after a squirrel or rabbit that easily scurried away. When she got to the house, she saw some cars and twisted metal parked on one side of the building but not much life within. She parked the truck and got out, staying close with just the driver's side door open and the keys in the ignition in case she needed to make a quick getaway.
Her hand shielded her eyes from the sun and she looked at the fire pit that had been recently used. One of the logs was still smoldering, which told her there was definitely someone here. She thought it really odd the front wasn't being protected in some manner but maybe there was really no need.
"Hello? Anyone home?"
