Well, there goes my first patrol as Outpost Leader, Alex thought as she stepped inside the office building that marked the headquarters for 77th Street's Hollywood Park outpost; after getting a briefing the day before from Ben Chambers before he and about a dozen others returned to 77th Station the day before. It felt good for her to walk the perimeter, check the fencing and improvised barriers for gaps and weak points, converse with those watching the perimeter and otherwise just stay busy....idleness, she mused, is the devil's playground.Speaking of which, she thought, glancing off in the distance towards the Great Western Forum, we are going to have to figure out what's inside that arena.
She -and the command staff back at 77th - had good reason to wonder; prior to the Great Panic, authorities had considered using the arena as a refugee center but no one really knew whether they had or not; for all anyone knew the place was a barren location or it could be full of roamers and biters, just waiting to be unleashed. One of these days, she mused, we'll find out what's inside...I just hope the place is empty and not a landmine full of rotters...

Piers joined Alex in entering the office building, and looked around in awe at the sight of it all, to think such a place could be used still, it could just as easily be the base for bandits, or--as Alex might have guessed the same--a cesspool of rotten infected. Just the same, he was a part of the group now, and he wanted to know what he could do to pull his weight. He heard--and witnessed--Alex being charged as a guard for the building, so would he be able to help her? Or would he be back-up? He didn't know, but maybe Alex herself could tell him. He did wonder if it was just them, or if other crew mates were there as well.

"So, Ben's got you running things here?" Kelsey asked as her, Alex and a few others finished unloaded medical supplies for Hollywood Park. Around them, several others kept watch to make sure no one - human or walker - came up upon them - as they worked.
"Yeah, he actually put me in charge here, K-Mac," Alex replied, pausing to lean against several boxes of supplies. "Who'd thunk it?" she added, stopping to look around and catch her breath. As Kelsey's senior medic, Alex was one of the most trusted people within 77th and it was a sign of that trust that Ben could leave her in charge while he and most of the initial group could rest and recuperate back at the station.
"I don't know," Kelsey said, pointing around towards a few things. "I think you could run the station, but then again, Ben's done pretty good," stopping to motion Piers over when she saw him. "Piers!" Kelsey said, waving him over. "Piers," she called out, glancing over at Alex and adding, "I hope you ain't corrupting the kid, Alex..."

"Still right as rain here, er...Kelsey, was it? I'm still learning the ropes around here. How have you been?", he asked Kelsey upon coming up closer to the two ladies after being waved over by Kelsey, and smiled at her and then Alex before he spoke again, "I actually would like to know what I can do to help. I'm guessing Alex has an office here, does she need to fix it up? And I still need to learn how to defend myself...I can only go so far on sneaking and running!", he chimed with a nervous chuckle, rather embarrassed that's what he had going for him, reaching a hand up to rub the back of his head...though he wondered what Kelsey meant by "corrupting" him in general?

"I'm doing alright," Kelsey replied, hearing Piers's question; hearing Piers' ask about where Alex would have her office, she looked at the building as they stood there and said, "I'm sure I'll find a place somewhere inside for an office; I know Ben talked about converting some of the office space into a command post here, so I'll probably take up shop there." Hearing Piers talk about wanting to learn how to defend himself, Alex added, "I'll teach him; this area appears pretty desolate, so I'll see about setting up some targets and we'll get to work on that." Looking over at Kelsey, she added, "Can you have Ben send over some additional ammo or have the bullet presses broke again?"

"They haven't broke, those it is getting harder to find spare parts for everything," Kelsey replied, adding as she walked over to one of the vehicles for the trip back, "but I'll make sure he sends some additional stuff over; anything specific?"
"5.56mm for the rifles, .38 and .357 rounds for the revolvers," Alex said "And make sure he sends a couple more shooters out here for extra security, okay?"
"Alright," Kelsey said as she signaled for the driver to start up the vehicle. "Catch you two on the flip side," she said, adding to the driver, "Alright, bambino, let's roll," driving out of the parking lot and back onto Century for the trip back to 77th Station.

Piers nodded and watched as Kelsey got into the vehicle and watched it drive off into the horizon, back to 77th Station he surmised before he turned to look at Alex, a bit of a hopeful expression on his face before he spoke to her softly, grinning lightly as locks of his curly brown hair fluttered in the light breeze, "You'd really show me how to defend myself? I thought you'd be pretty busy here, wouldn't you?"

"Yeah, I'll take the time to show you," Alex replied, adding, "just as soon as we get this stuff sorted out, see what they brought us." Giving Piers a friendly hug, she continued. "First time I ever shot a gun was during basic training...and God, was I nervous! You know that movie where they kept telling the kid, 'you'll shoot your eye out!' Well, that's how nervous I was....grew out of it pretty quickly, though," pausing to pick up a container. "Anyway, let's get this stuff unloaded and then we'll see what we can do, okay?"

A couple of hours later.....Who knew we could fit that many supplies into a supply room? Alex thought as she sat down in the office/command post they were using at Hollywood Park; outside, one could see the former horse racing track, now full of weeds and other plants that'd blown in over the past few years. Taking her overshirt off, Alex sat back and watched the shadows stretch and expand in the distance. Such a vibrant city it once was, she mused, leaning back in her chair and crossing her arms over her chest, the muscles subtly twitching as she continued staring out the window. She was just about to tell Piers a story about the City of Angels when she heard a voice from outside the office chime in.
"You know, they say staring out of windows is bad for you, Angel," someone said from the doorway. Looking over, Alex smiled as two of her fellow stationeers walked inside and sat down, bearing a couple of items: drinking glasses and pitcher, several bottles of water....and a large bottle of Tang, Alex thought, chuckling as they fixed glasses of orange Tang for her, Piers and a few others sitting around. "Why, thank you, Jennifer," she said, raising her glass in a toast; as she drank the orangy drink, she looked over at Piers. "They say there used to be four million stories in the City of Angels....want to hear a few of them?"
Shauna Kelly: That helped, thank you
