"No, not like that, your holding it all wrong," she berated Oscar.
He had picked up on medicine decently enough and was starting to learn how to identify the different plants and tell her what they were good for. The bow however had not been so easy. He couldn't hit his target. Maybe it was her fault. She had never had to teach anyone, let alone an outsider, the ways of her people.
"Like this," she said holding her bow in demonstration and letting fly. Her arrow struck home in the cactus they were using as target practice. "You'll never be able to hunt with a bow at this rate."
Shadow watched on at their practice while he chewed on a bone from her most recent kill. He loved the marrow and she didn't want to waste anything so she gave the bones to him. Granted they could eat the marrow as well if they needed but Shadow enjoyed his treats. She was getting ready to show him again when a growl could be heard from Shadow. It meant one of two things, people or chindi. She desperately hoped it was the second. She didn't want to deal with any more outsiders, she was having a hard enough time with this one. She held her hand up to her lips and motioned for Oscar to get low.
"Let's move in and find out what this is."
She stayed close to the ground and slowly moved in the direction that Shadow was looking. There was a small bluff up that way that she planned to hide behind. She had her tomahawk out and in her hands in case it was closer then she thought but she highly doubted it. Shadow had never let a chindi get close to their camp. If it had been close he would have already been on it, his teeth digging into the things neck and his claws attempting to rip off it's head.
They finally got there and took position behind the bluff. A quick glance over showed her two lone chindi, they had probably come near last night but had stopped when it got too cold. She wished she had a proper pueblo to put her fire in. They had never been in danger out here but if she didn't have the fire out like it was they would attract less of them. She really hated having to do funerals but knew she could not let them rot, they were here because of improper burials in the first place.
"Let's see what you can do with the Atlatl. Remember, no guns."
It had been one of her first orders to him. While they were on her peoples lands he would not fire his guns.
