Describe your character's life before the Apocalypse:
-Rachel grew up in a good family, her mother and father were very loving and she had an older sister named Serena. While she didn’t get along with her sister very well the two didn’t frequent the same circles anyway. Rachel grew closer to their father who was an auto mechanic for a local car dealership. Rachel wasn’t a popular kid, she was picked on a lot because she didn’t bother to try to dress in the latest fashion and more than once came to school with grease under her fingernails. She was quiet and shy, but she did have a hell of a temper if pushed too far.
After graduating high school Raych was serving as an apprentice mechanic under her father. Unfortunately tragedy struck the family of four. Her mother and father went out for a date night, never seeing the truck that blew through a red light with abandon. With their parents gone the sisters were on their own and in shock. Raych had been especially close to her father, taking the loss much harder than Serena. And having no one to confide in made the already shy girl even more of a recluse.
The sisters lived together until the outbreak, give or take one of Serena's boyfriends that might move in for a week or so before she got bored of him.
What happened to your character on Outbreak Day?:
Rachel was longing around the house when Serena came inside and told her to turn on the TV. It was horrible….people eating each other…..Serena was obviously shaken and had been listening to the radio on her way home from work. She looked at Rachel and said she would be back in a minute before disappearing upstairs. Rachel nodded, feeling the burn of jealously in her chest but her attention was quickly pulled back to the horrid images at hand.
No one seemed to know exactly what was going on, how fast it was traveling. Rachel sat on the couch and watched the horrible images on the screen. Not even hearing the knocking on the front door. Suddenly someone burst inside. Their neighbor, a normally calm kind woman named Mrs. Greene. She was frantic and Rachel jumped off the couch to try to calm her. “He bit me! My son bit me!” She screamed as tears streaked down her weathered face. Rachel stepped forward, shocked by the hunk that had been bitten from the frantic woman’s arm. But then she froze…remembering the people on the television…the warnings…
At that moment a body smacked against the large picture window in the living room dead eyes peering in at the people within. Rachel screamed and Serena came running down stairs, remembering what she had heard on the radio about bitten people turning she leveled her pistol(the reasons he had gone upstairs in the first place) on her neighbors head and pulled the trigger. Rachel screamed...and screamed. Serena just stared at the dead woman with a look of shock and disbelief....had she just...yes...she killed someone.
Another person stumbled in the door and Serena turned the gun on him, Rachel quickly got between them and tried to calm her sister down. The man, another neighbor told them to come. People were being gathered on a military base for safety. Both sisters took only a moment to grab a couple things and loaded into the van full of people fleeing death.
Describe your character's life after the Apocalypse:
The sisters remained at the refugee camp for a few months. Things were terse...there was little food and way too many people with guns. Serena was always able to con a little extra chow out of the men guarding it, but the people were hungry...and hungry people were not content. The sister's had taken to leaving to scavenge for their own food and returning before nightfall. It was never a big issue. They were normally able to sneak past the dead without incident. But one day while they were looting an abandoned house Rachel opened a presumably empty cabinet only to have a long dead hand shoot forth and grab her wrist. She screamed, a gut reaction. Kicking and scooting away until she was out of the things reach. Serena came to see the what the fuss was about and slammed her machete into its skull.
But the damage was done...the nearby walkers had heard Rachels screams. They left the house, not wanting to be trapped like rats. And ran through the woods. Hoping to outpace the slow undead. But Rachel's heart was beating hard, her coordination was off and she fell. Her ankle was twisted and she couldn't run. Serena was too small to carry her. With Rachel's arm over her shoulder they stumbled along. Hoping against hope to outrun the dead that were catching up to then.
It was a stroke of luck that they happened upon Jon. Without him it was likely they both would have perished. He took out the dead near them before whisking Rachel up and taking them back to the refugee camp. When the camp was overrun the sister's stuck with their new found friend until they joined the Hive. And once it fell they again stuck together and joined Yankee stadium where they now reside.
