“Hate to say it Joshua but you’re definitely not a farmer” she chuckled after listening intently as he spoke of his past. She realized with a shock that she hadn’t even told anyone of her own history, except for Joshua who then knew more about her thank most. She traced figures into the grass with the tip of her finger unable to lift her eyes to Joshua, the more he spoke the deeper she got entranced by every aspect of the prince. She noticed as he waved the guards off, they looked thankful to get out of the storm as drops slowly rained down on them. She held her palms open catching rain drops with a carefree smile while he spoke, but instead her lips fell into a frown she tried as best to hide from the prince.
“Your brother means well” she told him, her voice stronger than she felt “I always told my brother than fate isn’t set in stone and I make my own future, my choices but now I’m starting to think fate has a cruel sense of humor” she’d found safety, refuge and care for Joshua but there was a barrier between them she thought they could not overcome. She ran her fingertips through her hair feeling them wet slowly as the thunder got louder, their song much more intense as the rain slowly increased.
“You threw me in the water less than an hour ago and suddenly you don’t want to stay out in the rain” she laughed softly to herself accepting his hand and rising to her feet. Suddenly the rain drenched them in cool droplets of rain and she quickly lifted her chin to the sky to see the beauty in the storm. She took her horses’ reigns in her palm but before she could swing her leg over she felt Joshua pulling her closer, out of view from strangers she embraced the feeling of his lips on hers. She held onto his shoulders with a firm grip fearful that it would end sooner than it began. Rain slowly ran over her cheek and dripped down her chin as her clothes stuck to her skin. By the time her lips parted from his she was out of breath and she lifted onto the horse with a bright smile meeting his gaze before they rode.
“besides, the rain is only half the fun” she watched him ride of for a few seconds embracing the storm a moment longer before kicking her boot and pulling on the reigns to follow close behind him. Soon he’d probably have to return to his duties (probably by force) but she knew he was as rebellious as he was when they first met. Much like herself. But once uncertainty that plagued her mind was the future that was foggy and fragile. She embraced it strongly however, putting a firm look on her face and a strength in her posture that she didn’t truly have.
