Describe your character's life before the Apocalypse:
- Born in the winter of 1980, Samuel lived an average life in central Massachusetts, he excelled in school and was manage to get an ROTC Scholarship to Norwich University in Vermont. He joined up in the Marine ROTC and went through Norwich with flying colors, only pausing to decide whether or not to join the Marines immediately after the 9/11 Attacks when he was a 21 Year Old Junior. After passing Norwich Samuel was sent to Bootcamp and then OCS, he passed through both with little issue before being assigned to the First Marine Regiment due to his outstanding training credentials just in time for the Invasion of Iraq in 2003. The next year Samuel participated in both the First and Second Battles of Fallujah before finally being able to go home for a year on leave. He returned to Iraq in 2006 and participated in the Second Battle of Ramadi, finishing out the rest of that tour in the Anbar Province. From 2007-2011 Samuel found himself deploying two other times to Iraq but faced no other significant fighting. In 2012, Samuel was assigned back to Camp Pendleton which housed the I Marine Expeditionary Force, it was here where he was just a year away from the toughest war yet...the Outbreak.
What happened to your character on Outbreak Day?:
- While Outbreak Day did not immediately bring a need for Military intervention, the ensuing chaos, rioting, and inability of the San Diego PD to counter the undead threat made it a necessity days later. Samuel and the entire I Marine Expeditionary Force were given a clear order, establish defendable safe zones for civilians and clear out San Diego of the infected and possibly infected. Obviously this order could not be accomplished (mostly due to the fact that the Military was facing almost 100 Walkers for every 1 Soldier...not just combat soldiers either) and so Operation Colbalt was enacted...the surviving Marines pulled back to Camp Pendleton and prepared for a siege while the Air Force burned San Diego to the ground. Unfortunately, refugees looking for a safe place were not far behind the Marines...nor were the Walkers following behind. Camp Pendleton gave everything it had...but it wasn't enough as it fell after only a week of nonstop fighting.
Describe your character's life after the Apocalypse:
- In the chaos Samuel was able to escape Camp Pendleton with his platoon in Humvees...they trekked East in search of some other Military installation that was still intact. However they found nothing, and it wasn't long until Marines began to desert, believing that they had lost their war against the undead. By the time Samuel made it to Texas...he was all alone, his men killed, missing, or deserted. Believing himself that his mission was over and the United States were no more, Samuel resigned himself simply to keep going East, hoping to make it to Massachusetts and discover the fates of his friends and Family in Massachusetts. 3 Years after the Outbreak, and Samuel has now found himself entering New York State...only time will tell what may happen now.
