Melody sat in her room. She sat on the bed with her back against the wall. Her feet were pulled up onto the bed and she was staring at the floor. She couldn't believe how she chickened out when everyone was fighting the hord. Everyone bravely went up against the dead and held the bridge, but Meldoy couldn't pull the trigger. This sucks! She thought as she stood up and started out the room. She didn't know where she was going, but she was tired of being couped up. Her father had shieled her from the horrors of the world and in essense made her weak.. He didn't allow her to see if she could survive on her own and now she wasn't sure if she had what it took to make it in this screwed up world.. She both loved and hated her father for protecting her. Melody walked down the stairs and out the front door. She just needed to walk to clear her head. She wasn't the biggest of the strongest, the faster or the smartest. She was just an eighteen year old girl who happened to have been stored away in the hive through the whole outbreak and it kept her safe. it kept her alive.
Melody: i don't have what it takes to be a scout.
She grumbled as she walked... She stopped at the water's edge, froze in fear.. This stupid paralyzing fear that gripped her heart and controlled her every thought. She was terrified of the water, she thought about being in it and pictured invisible hands pulling her under the surface wanting to drown her. Wanting her to turn and remain in a watery grave as a walker mindlessly clawing at the surface. She shivered. Kicking a rock into the water and watching it sink she thought. "That would be me." Feeling generally worthless and a little upset she sat down in front of the water and huddled her knees to her chest... She was the only one outside at the moment, the only one that could clearly be seen. Melody rested her chin on her crossed arms that were sitting on her knees. She just sat there and stared at the ripples in the water, wondering why Tegan wanted to take her under her wing at all. She said i had the makings of a leader in me. Melody thought. But she couldn't see it. A leader didn't freak out and freeze up. A leader didn't show her fears.. A leader didnt'...... Wait.... Who's that? She thought. Looking up she saw a woman on the other side of the river... Walking. Melody looked around to see if she could have someone check, but there was no one... The woman looked to be all alone, and probably hungry, or lost, or scared. Melody knew what it was like to be scared. She took a nervous step towards the water.. Her eyes on the jetski floating there ready to be taken across... She looked back up at the woman who was still just walking... I have to see if she needs help. It's what my mother would do. I can't be scared forever.... Melody took another nervous step forward, and then another until she found herself seated on the jetski... Julie rode with her last time and it helped quell her fear. But now..... Now she had to face them all on her own.. She was diong this to help the woman, but she was also doing this to show herself that she DID have what it took to be a leader, she didn't have to be overwelmed by her fears.... Melody took a deep breath and started the jetski, and started her way across the river to the young woman.
