Describe your character's life before the Apocalypse:
Lucas had a regular life, like most kids. Parents who loved him, a sisters where he would fight with every now and then, but deep down loved her with all his heart and a normal cozy home. He went to school, good grades, many friends etc etc. Lucas studied to work in the finance sector, he was a smart kid, so he graduated without any problem. But instead of looking for jobs, he decided to change the tour of his life, he wanted something more, he wanted to help people, help make the world a better place.
As usual his parents supported him on his search to a different path in his life. He searched info for different things, police, army and so on. But in the end, firefighter was the job he wanted to try.
It was a hard training and it didn’t go as smooth has school, but eventually he made it. He was 23 when he started working as a firefighter. In that same year, he rented his own apartment en moved out, it was time for him to build up his own life. Once more his parents supported him. Leen his sister moved out herself a couple years back, since she was his older sister, she also had her own live, Lucas wanted that too.
So work was good, he had his own place, so that was good. All he needed was someone to love. During school Lucas experimented with both girls and boys, but in the end boys got the ticket to his heart and pants. But other than a few relationships lasting a couple months, nothing happened. He never was ashamed of being gay and his family accepted him the way he was. But finding the right guy was a different story.
So years passed, as well as many guys, but never the right one. Two years later Lucas was captain of his firefighting team, which was a pretty high rank in Belgium. He saved many lives and loved his job. But the life as he knew it was about to change.
What happened to your character on Outbreak Day?:
It was time for Lucas his yearly holiday period. Once a year he went on vacation outside Belgium, as far as possible preferably. This year, he would go for America, visiting New York. While he was checking in at the airport, he saw the news on a tv, explaining there had been people getting sick throughout the sates. But as far as the people in Belgium knew it was just a regular virus, doctors would handle it. Lucas always went to the hospital for some vaccines before he left on vacation, so he wasn’t afraid.
So he got on the plain and was ready for his vacation. After the long flight he landed in the airport and there it was one big chaos. People panicking, wanting to go home, and the staff trying to calm everyone down. It took four hours for him to get his luggage and before he could finally exit the airport. During his time there he heard things like people biting other people and a virus spreading. He rarely panicked, which was much needed as a firefighter, so now he didn’t panic either.
While he was taking a cab to his hotel, after waiting for half an hour to find one, he called his parents and sister, telling them he arrived and everything was fine. He also comfort them all, since they heard about the virus on the news. Then he said goodbye, without knowing it would be the last time he heard his parents or sister.
He arrived at his hotel and even there the chaos proceeded. He made way to his room, locked the door and with a big sigh he fell on his bed. After getting a shower, he went straight to bed, not even bothering with unpacking for now. The night was filled with noise on the street and screams, Lucas did his best to sleep but was slightly getting worried. After finally falling asleep, he woke up around midday. It was awfully quiet and when he looked out of the window, to see street he saw smoke, fire, broken cars, broken shop windows. He didn’t believe his own eyes. He tried the tv to see what was going on and after going through the channels, he only found one working. An older lady of the news, warning about dead people walking, telling the viewers it was the end of the world.
Lucas switched off the television, he was shocked, didn’t know what to believe. He grabbed his phone to call his parents, but no network. After trying other ways like internet he found out, nothing was working. Even the electricity seemed gone. Finally he thought it was time to leave the room and find out what was going on. When he reached the lobby, he found people with guns guarding it, no police officers, no regular people. He asked for information and a kind man briefed him about what happened. Lucas couldn’t believe it, dead people rising, a virus, only killable though the head, those where the core things he remembered. After explaining he was from Belgium and a firefighter they thought he was strong enough for guard duty.
Lucas got a gun and ammo, they explained he needed to guard and shoot every incoming dead one. Lucas never fired a gun and told them that, but they told him there was no ammo for him to practice.
Describe your character's life after the Apocalypse:
Lucas spent a year of the apocalypse in the hotel. During that year he learned how to shoot and how to survive. He also learned how hard it was to miss family and how it could drive people insane not knowing how the rest of the world was doing. But he couldn’t give up, he needed to survive. After the year, the hotel was finally breached and overrun by walkers. The people and Lucas where prepared, so they took as much stuff as they could with them and left before it was overrun.
Then Lucas spend another two years with those people. Going from city to city, scavenging, searching for supplies, trying to find a suitable home. In those years they lost a lot of good people, even a guy, where Lucas was sort of romantically involved with. Lucas always had a hard time letting go and admitting he wasn’t able to save some one. Since he had some medical knowledge from being a firefighter, he was the only person that could take care of wounded people. But there was nothing someone could do against a bite of those things. But one dead, changed it all, one dead would fear away Lucas.
It happened during when Lucas got back from a supply run. He and the team got back and found the camp overrun. A few weeks back the found a woman and a little girl, Lucas immediately had a connection with them and the other way around, since he rescued them. The woman had no love interest, since she knew Lucas was gay, but she asked him to help her protect the little girl. Little did he knew he would fail.
So when they came back and found the camp overrun by walkers, he saw the dead body of the woman, but what followed was horrific, the sweet little girl, sat beside her and was eating her guts. Lucas couldn’t believe he failed. He turned around, didn’t bother speaking to his other friends, meaning the other people of the group. He jumped in the van, he mostly used to go on supply runs and drove off. He had his backpack with him, containing all his stuff and the van had medical supplies, some bottles of water and some canned food. The only thing he didn’t had was a lot of weapons. He only had his bow and arrow, which he always carried on his back and his dual handguns, with ammo in his backpack. Lucas felt horrible for leaving them and taking the van, but he couldn’t deal with yet another dead. From now on he would try to survive in this horrible world on his own.
