From the Maintenance areas all the way up to the Armory, the scene was that of chaos...controlled chaos, Tegan thought, as people scrambled to and fro to get everything needed for a multi-day trip outside the Hive...though she was still cursing the other Overseers for dropping the mission on her and her Scouts so fast and with virtually no lead time, she understood the rationale: the Hive's growing population needed a new outpost and this one would be right at Manhattan's lower doorstep...just as Yankee Stadium is at Manhattan's upper doorstep, she thought...but why in the hell did they want Ft. Hamilton as an outpost? What, are the other Overseers smoking some high-grade ganja once again?
Unfolding a map of the area in question as she stood near the front of one of the Tundras, Tegan examined the location, all the entrance and exits, all the possible locations they could check out while there...anything and everything that would go into making the place a Hive Outpost; if nothing else, her Scouts would do just that. Satisfied that they'd do the job, Tegan began going through her backpack, making sure everything was in order, she set the backpack inside the Tundra and walked inside the Armory, whistling the Chief Armorer over. "You got everything you need, Haley?" she asked.
"Yeah, I got my kits and everything," he replied; having known Tegan Lyell for years, Travis Haley knew she was a stickler for making sure everything was in order. "What do you need?"
"I'm alright myself; we've got a few other people coming with us besides all of my Scouts, you and a couple of armorers and a few wrench-heads and I need some long weapons," reeling off a list of rifles she needed. "You got that: an M16, an AK-47 and a Glock, and I need enough..."
"...ammo, mags and everything else to go with it, I got it, I got it," Travis replied. "So, what the dope, Tegan?" For several minutes she explained what they were doing, where they were going, the whole nine yards; after she finished, he replied, "So that would explain the clouds of weed over Headquarters, huh?"
Ignoring the dig at her fellow Overseers - not that she didn't mind; she was still smarting from the zero time notice she'd been given on the mission itself - Tegan said,"Yeah, that would explain it. Just be ready to go, alright?" Without waiting, she walked out of the Armory and continued going over everything once more, making sure nothing was left to chance....
