Robby grinned lightly, a feature that clashed with the steely cool grey eyes akin to an experienced killer who has seen some shit--then again, who in this hellhole of a zombie mosh pit hasn't?--and so slowly climbed to his full height, brandishing his M1911 handgun in case he needed it before he made way towards the walkers nearest the cabin where they had both just emerged from. It wouldn't take long before they got to where the corpses were, and hard swings with the butt of his pistol's grip was enough to cause severe enough head trauma to one of them, though he checked his gun to make sure he didn't break something in it with a casual turn-over in his hand. Satisfied there was nothing wrong with his weapon, he nodded to Laura as if to signal the last one was hers to take, but kept a keen eye on the zombie in case things got a little too dark for his blood.

Walking up to the shambling walkers, they made quick work of the creatures, using a combination of rifle butts, pistols and knives....Laura, in particular, seemed to take a bit of glee in dispatching them, finishing the last one with her knife, sending it down to the ground with a thud. Looking over at Robert, Laura knelt down and wiped the blade clean on the dirt, making sure it was clean before returning it to its' sheath. "Well, that was interesting, Robby," she said to him, "now let's get out of here before any more of their friends show up, though if they do," pointing towards the cabin she'd just left, "we can always send them towards the estrogen fest over there...."

"Normally, a guy would want to be a part of said estrogen fest...but I don't want any of that. The bitchy level is off the charts. C'mon, I have a house down in the neighborhood.", he said with a nod of his head, keeping his handgun aimed safely away from himself and Laura. If he was a thug to her police sense, then he was a well-mannered one it would seem. He didn't know any of this, of course, as he started down the hall, towards the small gathering of houses and towards a ruined-looking one in particular that was 2-story. Thankfully, it seemed the corpses were elsewhere at the moment, and once they got inside they would never find them without noise.

Robert said, nodding over in the general direction of the house in question. As they walked over towards the house he was referring to, Laura looked over and asked, "So where you are from, Robby? Are you from around here originally or did you, like the rest of us, come here from somewhere else?" It sounded corny as hell but to Laura's thinking, it beat saying something sappy or thoughtful, given the situation they found themselves in.

"Texas. Wichita Falls. You?", he asked Laura with a light glance towards her while he went down the hill with her. His cool eyes lightly passed over the woman's figure, and concluded she was quite the beauty. There was no way a woman like her was single! But he wasn't about to jump out of his pants just at the sight of her, he wanted to remain professional with her. When he came into view of his house with Laura beside him, and adjusted the debris and fastening of his front door to open it, and stepped aside to let her go in ahead of him, and was glad that there were no walkers around to see this.

"Texas. Wichita Falls. You?" Robert asked as they walked closer and closer to where his house was, pausing to remove the bits and pieces of debris that were in front of the door that kept walkers - and other neer'do'wells - from getting inside.
"Salt Lake City, Utah," Laura said, watching him remove everything from the door before stepping aside to let her through; smiling as he did, Laura stepped inside and stood slightly to the side, waiting for Robert to come inside and close the door before saying or doing anything else. "Nice place," Laura said deadpan, looking around as she waited for him to enter...

"From Utah, huh? Nice. Thanks.", Robert said to Laura as he secured the debris before closing the door again and locking it, then turned from the door towards his guest. The outdoor view of the house looked ransacked and devasted. The inside? It was homey, there was a sofa, coffee table, TV, kitchen and such as if it was never invaded, as if it was kept nice and clean. With a soft sigh of delight at being home, Robert moved and sat on the sofa, on the middle cushion before patting both sides of him as if to offer Laura a place to sit, a light grin on his face, "Well, this is my home. I'm sure you're probably tired or just wanna relax, so come on and sit with me."

"Well, this is my home. I'm sure you're probably tired or just wanna relax, so come on and sit with me." Robert said as both of them stepped inside; as she entered the house., Laura thought it looked nice for a post-apocalyptic place. "Nice place you have here," Laura said as she sat down on the sofa next to Robert, her gear on the floor nearby. "Has a bit of a chameleon feel to it....and I mean that in a good way," Laura added. "You know, when we were walking up here, I thought, 'we're going here?' but I have to admit," looking over at Robert and smiling as she leaned back, "this is a nice place."

Hearing the compliments, Robert grinned lightly and nodded as he looked about the deceptively comfortable living space. It wasn't a pig sty unlike most other residences, but it was actually rather tidy and spacious despite the boarded windows. He took a second to think back on Laura's words; it was rather odd that she'd be so willing to come with him to his home, as he was a stranger, wasn't he? Then again, considering what group she had been with just prior, he didn't blame her for wanting to change places. She could've shot him if she really was that bad, just as he could've bound her and kidnapped her, or shot her, or just about anything. Yet here he was, sitting beside her after having invited her in, and was now contemplating getting a cup of tea for her. Cliche and fairytale-like, sure, but it was cause of celebration for him.
"'Chameleon'? That's a new one. I try to take care of this place, make gradual nicks in the exterior to make it look like it was recently just picked clean from the outside, all that. I guess it's infrastructure camouflage...and no, I don't care if that's not an actual word; I'm makin' it one! Anywho, Laura, are you thirsty? Want some tea, or water?"

"Water will be fine," Laura replied, leaning back on the sofa and relaxing a bit more, feeling more and more at ease around Robert - a lot more at ease, she mused, than back at the freak show earlier. Slipping her jacket off and resting it behind her on the sofa, Laura sat and waited for Robert to return...

Robert nodded and pulled out of sight to go into the kitchen, and lifted the white lid of a Igloo cooler full of Dos Equis beer bottles as well as Ozarka and Deja Blu bottles of water, 1 of each he collected out of it so he had a beer in his hand. When he came back into view, he lightly held the bottle of water towards Laura with a grin in offering as he sat beside her on the sofa again with a sigh of relaxation, "Well, here is your water, m'lady. Damn, I shoulda gotten more paint while I was out. More solvent would've been better, too.."

Taking the bottle of water from Robert, Laura noticed how strong his hands were, how they had gripped the bottle...for a moment, Laura let her mind wander a bit as she held the bottle in her own hand; after a few moments, she snapped back to reality and opened the bottle, taking a long drag of water before closing the bottle back up. "This is good," Laura said as she listened to Robert talk about fixing up the house. "I think it looks alright myself," Laura said, looking around a moment, "...kinda reminds me of my apartment back in Utah after I graduated from college; it was smaller and dingier, though," adding, "but anyway, it looks nice....is this the only room here or are there other rooms as well?" taking another sip of water as she asked Robert what could almost be a loaded question...in more ways than one.

At the question of the home having only one room or not, Robert chuckled a bit and winked at Laura as he sipped some more of his own drink, climbing to his feet as his eyes focused on the beautiful ex-cop before him on his sofa, "Well, why don't you come with me and find the answer to that yourself? I think you might be surprised."
(OoC: Apologies for the small post. Might be due for a new thread ^^; )
