The tape beeped and whirled. Elias leaned over the mic and held the button, looking at the little red light. Did that mean it was on? Or was that just the power? Was it recording? Or did it just mean it was plugged in. Sitting beside him was Tyler, sweating away, as nervous as he was.
This was a big step, inviting people over. Meant they were announcing their location to everyone, good and bad. At the very least it meant that people could hear them. Did people even have radios. They had taken this from the yacht. Emergency broadcast equipment from local news stations. If people could hear it in cars, they would. but that mean everyone could.
"does the light mean it's on? Or does it mean it's recording? Is this live," Elia said, looking to his cohort.
"It means it's recording," Tyler said calmly, in his usual wet voice.
"you sure you don't want to do it? I mean who knows you could be a natural kid. You already got the face made for radio," Elias said with a smirk. He could feel the glare coming off him, "no, no you're right. I'll be the big balls, I'll do it."
He cleared his throat. "Alright. So if you listened through all that good for you. Means you are interested, or bored out of your mind. Name is Elias O'Flaherty. I send this out from a fort in St. Agustville."
"Agustine. It's St. Agustine, not Agustiville," Tyler said, speaking up.
"Right oh, Agustine. Coming from St. Agustine. We send this out looking for survivors. People, looking to survive. We have recourses, plenty of space. We're friendly folk, just looking for more friendly folk. Just listen, if you're interested it's the giant fort with God dam Disney cruise ship parked out front."
He paused and looked up at Tyler raising a brow. "This sounds like a god dam trap don't it? Say something witty to show that we are the good guys."
"uh, we are friendly. We don't want to hurt no one," Tyler said smiling at the microphone, as if it could see him. He turned to Eliss, "like that"
"naw give it more gusto. Like this," Elias said clearing his throat once again. "I can't guarantee safety. But if you don't hurt us, we won't hurt you. For crying out loud, it's a kid and a lone drunk. We are just looking for people to keep us alive. There are famalie's here. Working class folk. We have kids, and women. Children and need people to help us survive."
He smiled toward Tyler, "like that See. Now edit this up and send it out on a loop or whatever."
