Just outside of Warfordsburg, Pa.After several days of driving south from McVeytown, Thomas turned the Philadelphia Gas Works van - with Zoey in the passenger seat - off of Interstate 70 and came to a stop at the end of the exit ramp. I know I saw a damn truck stop here somewhere close by, he thought, but which direction was it?
After a few moments, he muttered a few choice words and turned the van left, hoping the truck stop in figure was where he thought it was; as they drove under the interstate bridge, he looked over at Zoey. "As soon as we get to the truck stop just up ahead, we need to try and get as much gas out of the vehicles as possible; there's a couple of suction pumps in the back, we'll use those." After a moment, he added, signing with one hand, Hey! We made it this far, Zoey; we'll make it.

Zoey got out of the van after giving Thomas a nod with a smile, and gestured back with her own signage, "Well, let's get to it, then.", she said before closing the van door and moving around to the back, taking careful time to look around at the surroundings first to make sure there weren't any zombies coming their way...1 or 2, she could handle with her sword, but more than that, she'd have to run because she was flat out of ammo.

Pulling up to a stop in front of the truckstop, Thomas gave the place a long view, opening the driver's side door and stepping out onto the riding board to look around. Don't see any walkers around, he thought, climbing back inside and starting the van up again. Driving up to a small group of vehicles, he signed to Zoey, As soon as we come to a stop there, grab one of the suction pumps back there; we'll use it to suction as much gas out of these vehicles. We'll suction it into one of the jerry cans back there; we'll have to mix some Stabil into it 'cause as old as some of these vehicles look, I don't want to dump what we find straight into the gas tank, alright?
After a few moments, he came to a stop in front of the vehicles; popping the back door open, he signed, Alright, let's go...

Zoey nodded, and followed suit of Thomas so she got to the back of the van and opened the door to take out one of the suction pumps. She looked at it strangely for a bit as if trying to remember what to do with it, and so looked to Thomas for guidance. She'd never had to do this before, and so she signed it with her free hand, "What do I do with this, again? I'm so new to this crap."

Seeing Zoey's frustration, Thomas grabbed a jerry can and a suction pump; walking over to the first car, he popped open the gas tank, opened the jerry can and explained everything to Zoey, signing slowly and repeating it so that she would understand what he was saying. Alright, here's what you do: open up the jerry can, put the flexible tube in it...take the fixed tube and slide that into the gas tank. The way a suction pump like this works, once you've got both tubes in place, you squeeze the bulb there at the top - pausing to demonstrate - what that does is create a pressure difference, which will draw the gasoline out of the gas tank, through the flex tube, down the fixed tube and into the jerry can.
Demonstrating how it worked, Thomas looked around; they were still alone, but he didn't want to press their luck any further than they could risk it. Anyway, let's try to get some gas out of these vehicles and see what happens.

Zoey watched for every detail and sign Thomas made to her to explain the process which she was clearly new at, but she got it down...she thought. She got a new jerry can and started to do what he demonstrated on another car, taking a few minutes to fill it up before giving a little fist pump as a celebration, like she was happy she did it. She didn't let it go to her head, however, as she started to fill her share of the jerry cans and even made the effort to put the full ones back in the van. She looked around as well to find they were still alone, perhaps save for one--no, two--that were staggering randomly as if they didn't see them.
She hurried her process up and put her full can in the van before drawing her katana for defense, waiting for Thomas to finish.

Filling up one of the jerry cans they had in the back of the PGW van, Thomas took it back to their vehicle and quickly added a small jar of Stabil to the gasoline; the fuel stabilizer would help prevent anything unwanted inside the fuel - especially any water present - from gumming up the engine and stranding them somewhere. That done, he looked around the edge of the van and saw a walker randomly moving about, not paying attention to anything or anyone.
Heading back out, he quickly filled a second can and repeated the same thing as before, keeping one can out to fill up the gas tank as best as they could; walking over to where Zoey was ; tapping her on the shoulder to get her attention, he signed, Go ahead and get in the van; I'll fill up the gas tank and then we are out of here.

Zoey shook her head, silently pointing to the zombies nearby, and with her blade drawn it was obvious what she was trying to do. She gestured for Thomas to go ahead and fill'er up, then she'll join him in the van when all was done; she clearly just wanted to defend him right now, she didn't want him to get attacked while he's unable to defend himself!

Seeing where Zoey was pointing off to, Thomas got to work, filling up the van's gas tank as much as possible; once that was done, he closed the gas cap, set the jerry cans - one now empty, the other two-thirds full - into the back of the van, closed the back doors and climbed inside, waiting for Zoey to climb aboard herself so that they could haul ass out of there and get back out on the road...

Zoey saw that Thomas had finished with the last can, and quickly got into the passenger seat of the van with him after sheathing her sword, looking out the window but gestured a sign to him that simply said "Ready to go!" to him, ready to high-tail it out of there with him now...

Needing no translation, Thomas got the PGW van into gear and floored it out of the truck stop, quickly getting back on the Interstate and heading eastward, eventually exiting Pennsylvania and entering Maryland, turning off of I-70 onto Interstate 68, the two of them heading westward...where, neither of them, but neither of them, Thomas thought, were probably worried about it either too much...leaving one state for another, the adventure was just beginning.
Thomas and Zoey have left Pennsylvania...
(OOC: Unless there's any objection, Zoey, we're now in the state of Maryland...if you want, you can start our next thread together there and I'll follow up. )
Shauna Kelly: That helped, thank you
