Describe your character's life before the Apocalypse:
Eliza was born the second child to a small family on the outskirts of Boone, North Carolina. Her father, Ben Rayner was a local mechanic so life was simple, but good. Things changed when she was ten and her mother was killed in a head on collision with a drunk driver. The death of her mother affected the family dramatically. Her father began to drink and eventually remarried a waitress at the local pub named Joyce. Together, they had another child who they named Abigail. The rest her childhood was challenged, but not terrible. Her father and stepmother spent most of their time bickering about finances or how crappy of a mother Joyce turned out to be. Eliza had a brief lapse of rebellious youth as a pre-teen but eventually took responsibility for helping to care for Abigail.
After she graduated high school, Eliza struggled to find a job. Unable to afford college she ended up enlisting in the U.S Army, like her elder brother, when she was nineteen; hoping to pursue something meaningful. She aced her ASVAB and eventually became a combat Health Care Specialist and spent a lot of time deployed.
What happened to your character on Outbreak Day?:
It was a normal day. Eliza was stationed at Camp Shelby in Mississippi training new recruits in combat medics. Her class, in which she was explaining how to properly remove shrapnel out of a thigh, was suddenly irrupted with an emergency call to action. As one of the few combat-trained medical specialist residing at the base at the time, she was deployed to one of the largest cities in their area, New Orleans. Very little information was known at the time. They were briefed that the city of New Orleans was under attack by what appeared to be hostile civilians. There were rumors of cannibalism but these were mostly debunked as false information that was a result of panic.
These rumors quickly became true as they arrived in New Orleans and found the city in chaos. People littered the street, rioting, looting, and eating each other. It was like nothing she had ever seen before. The constant screams of the living and the growing wave of undead were overwhelming. Eliza and her unit tried their best to keep things under control and to protect what civilians they could find alive. They learned than that what was taking place was global.
Describe your character's life after the Apocalypse:
Eventually, Eliza and her unit were pushed back and were forced to make refuge in the local courthouse with as many survivors as they could find. They set up camp, watched the parameter, and even began training what survivors they had in self defense to help improve their survival.
Because the immediate threat was more pressing then current medical attention, Eliza shifted to work combat primarily while handling medical only when it was urgent. Because of her steady hand, she quickly became quite skilled on a sniper rifle and would often spot her unite from rooftops, apartments, and alleyways when they went on supply runs.
Things didn’t last of course. As the swells of walkers began to become overwhelming, their refuge lost more lives and they ended up having to relocate multiple times due to hoards. Eventually, there were no more places to relocate to and she found herself fleeing away from the city in a stolen jeep.
She traveled first to Georgia, as her family had relocated there while she was still deployed. However when she arrived at their home she found her Grandmother and stepmother both turned with the rest of her family no where to be found. All the near by refuge camps were gone, so she traveled back down south to Louisiana where her brother had a second home. This is where she currently resides and is hoping to find any trace of her family.
