Describe your character's life before the Apocalypse:
Piers grew up the child of an estranged mother, one consumed by alcoholism. Her case was so bad and unfavorable for her child that, without the presence of his father to go to, he was sent to a foster home to live and develop, in Oceanside, California. In a much better environment, Piers made himself at home, but his mother's tendencies left a bad mark on him psychologically. Over the years, he developed a verbal tic in the form of Palilalia, a verbal tic which, in his case, has him repeat the last word he used in a sentence once fairly often. Being a young boy with not a cent to his name, Piers lived with most of his stuff in a single large backpack that he would use to hold his laundry, putting fresh clothing inside while taking out clothes to wear so it was almost always full. His foster parents eventually got him onto an enrollment into school, he was homeschooled at first until he reached high school, in which he started to go to class with his foster mother driving him.
His development didn't go unnoticed; one night at home, when he was 16 years old? His mother snuck into his room, drunk from a party downstairs in their 2-story home, and tried to come onto him by trying to take his jeans off. He fought her off and, disgusted, grabbed his clothing backpack and leapt out the window, running off into the distance of the night with no trace of him.
What happened to your character on Outbreak Day?:
A couple months of living as a runaway, he learned the lay of the urban life. He broke into vacant homes of families on vacation and stayed within their residence for a day or two, living off of their food before just as sneakily slipping out, being careful to use windows for such endeavors. During one such stay in a California suburb neighborhood, he was sleeping too soundly to hear the deathly silence broken only by a small mob of what sounded like people. Their footsteps irregular, groans and exhales of air being their language, it was as if they were marching as one to a common goal.
The next morning, he climbed out the window after peeking around, and quietly moved behind what he thought was a normal person, who he thought was weird for just standing in place and not moving all that much. It really weirded him out, and decided to leave with a rather long aluminum bat with him. He'd been wondering why the police weren't on his tail; his foster parents or even his school should've filed for such things, surely. Then it hit him: he was either not cared for or wanted by hs foster parents, or something happened. He didn't know, but he was coming up to a police cruiser. The door on the driver side was open, and the body of a policeman was on the ground in a pool of blood, a gaping hole in his head and his pistol and utility belt missing...like he was robbed or something. But the scariest part? He had blood around his mouth, and his eyes, which were open, were glossed over.
The sight was enough to make him puke, which he did next to the body, but was ultimately unaware of the staggering person slowly creeping up on him from behind. It wasn't until his feet his the gravel of the road that Red detected him, and ducked out of the way of a grab. Scared, Red backed up some and tried to talk to the person, thinking them sick or insane, trying to get answers out of them but to no avail. Instead, the man tried to lunge for him again with an animalistic snarl and open of his mouth, only to be met with a side step and then a hard bash of the aluminum bat against his head, doing so hard enough to rattle his brain, and then fall over dead. Panting, Piers dropped the bat in utter disbelief as he stared down at the newly-dead person...why was he trying to go for him? Did he do something against him before? Regardless, he slowly picked up his bat and got into the cruiser. Remembering how they did it in the movies, he closed the door and drove off into the distance, the thoughts of what had just happened dead on his mind.
Describe your character's life after the Apocalypse:
Piers spends every day of the past 3 years doing a mix of surveying and sneaking to explore potentially-unoccupied homes for new food, which he usually found with little trouble. Problem was, electricity was long a luxury of the past, and was non-existent at this point, so that led to him sleeping in the dark with no A/C, relying on self-cooking meals if he ever finds some. Back on the road with a near-empty-on-gas police car, and drove off towards his first big target, one of the nearest California police precincts. He didn't know which one would be best and closest, but he shoved those thoughts aside as he developed for one that was in Los Angeles. Yes, Los Angeles was most likely a ghost town that was also a zombie breeding town for unsuspecting travelers, but he knew he'd also find casinos there, restaurants, hotels, anything he could explore and stay in for the time being...maybe even survivors.
Because of the experiences and nature of the world as he knew it, Piers grew to be more whimsical and self-indulgent in that whatever he came across he knew he needed or wanted, he would take it for himself, leaving little to no spare for other people who may come to find it themselves. This particular side of him lead to him being a bit of a hoarder, though with some self-restraint, and led to him having kleptomaniac under the concept of "can never have too much of what you need". Another new thing that went well with his audacious behavior was his hedonistic view in the Zombocalypse; despite the death around him, his often tried to seek pleasure or anything positive and sensuality of of the world, even at the expense of other people.
