Aki drove the armored truck in silence. It was difficult for him to see those who had attacked his home, killed his men, living just behind the bars at the Hampton Inn. Watching them mill around, but knowing that Walton didn't want to attack just yet, was dizzying. It almost felt akin to watching an infestation of roaches grow, but being unable to step on them. The mood in the truck was tense, the night's events weighing heavy on their exhausted minds. Zac sat in the passenger seat, as he always did, while Nadia sat in the back with a few of the soldiers.
Waltonville came into view, the sky above it still a little hazy from smoke and debris. Aki pursed his lips as he approached what once was the gate. To keep the walkers out, cars had been parked in front of the gaping hole, and now they had to be moved. Aki glared out the windshield, aggravated by the sight of it, and as the men inside of the community rushed to move the vehicles for him, he let out a low sigh. "We should have just killed them on the spot."
He drove into Waltonville, checking in the rear view mirror to make sure that the cars were re-positioned to block the hole. He parked the truck and got out, his arms crossed as he waited for Zac and Nadia to join him at his side. He glanced to Nadia and nodded. "You did all right. Zac and I need to talk to Walton. You can come and meet him or go wait at the house. The choice is yours."
He turned his gaze to Zac and relaxed his shoulders, cocked his head. "We'll have to let him know where they're at. But we'll need to regroup, even if he doesn't want to. There's too much damage here." There wasn't much more to say, and Aki was fine with that. He and Zac had never had to overly communicate about something important. It had always come naturally, and now more than ever, that was no exception.
