Hazel stood there for a moment and just watched as they approached. As they approached, she began to doubt they they were even real or among the living. Had her loneliness final got to a point of madness, it had been as far back since the middle of winter that she saw a friendly face or even one out to kill her. She was half tempted to raise her weapon just encase, but she was the stranger and the one who longed for others.
She couldn't take that risk. Nervous as hell she moved her hands to the back of her head, not wanting to die if they weren't some imaginary figure in her head. Then one of them spoke,
"Excuse me....what's your name, ma'am? Where are you from?"
As soon as she heard his voice a tearful smile sprung across her face and a single tear of happiness rained down her cheek.
"I was begin to doubt that..." she gave a slight laugh from nerves and another tear, " Hazel Farrell, I sorry I'm just happy to know..." again she gave off a nervous laugh and a gulp down her throat." I was begin to lose hope anyone was left, " she gave a gulp and this time the tears were more noticeable as her body for once in her life began to give to the shakes." All these battles and I'm breaking down like baby because of meeting two strangers. How pathetic that. I'm going to wipe my eyes." With that she wiped the tears from her face as for once in the last few months she felt hopefully again.
With Christoph right behind him watching his back, Ben approached the woman and asked her who she was..at first, the woman reacted like she was surrendering to bandits or marauders, but then Ben saw what looked like either the best acting job he'd ever seen or someone who was just glad to see other human beings....

"Hey, hey, hey", Ben said, not knowing whether to comfort her or keep his distance, remembering Christoph's words from moments before, but knowing he had the eyes of most everyone at Hollywood Park focused on what was going on, he had to think fast. "Come on, it's going to be alright, ma'am," waving her over to where they were, "Its' gonna' be alright, ma'am..."
From the way he spoke the word ma'ma Hazel jumped to the conclusion he had served with the law enforcement in some manner, but she was wasn't a hundred percent sure and could only go on guess work. She approached slowly not wanting his friend to become trigger happy.
" FBI if you hadn't gathered," she gave a slight grin at own sense of humor," But I suppose if it hadn't been for us, you'd LAPD would never of been able to put one and one together."
Slowly she reached to her shirt pocket under her vest slowly and with in sight pulled out her old worn FBI badge. To her the badge served like dog tags to a soldier. She threw it to the stranger she had been talking to prove who she was," I served in San Francisco even after the fall till are settlement was mutated and I'm sure you can gather the rest." Hazel remain focused on the one person," last man standing at your service if your honorable."

Catching the FBI badge Hazel tosses over to him, Ben examined it and tossed it back to her, satisfied she was who she was, thinking to himself, and the sarcasm only added to the authenticity. "Welcome to Hollywood Park, Hazel," he said, offering her a handshake as the three of them stood outside the office building at the heart of the former horse racing track, adding, "Contrary to popular opinion, Agent Farrell, we Los Angeles cops usually are able to put one and one together and get to two. The bosses back at One Parker Center, not so much," grinning for a moment before turning serious again. "As hot as it is out here, everyone, let's go back inside, get you checked out, Agent Farrell and then we'll about what's out there..."

Watching the exchange between the two occur Christoph was beginning to relax his guard. Once the two had spoken and Ben mentioned going outside Christoph placed his rifle strap over his shoulder. He gestured with his hand towards the building like a friendly German henchman. "Right this way Frau Hazell." He smiled and nodded his head.
Christoph was of course disappointed. He had hoped the female figure would have been his daughter yet portrayed a jolly exterior. He looked to Ben and spoke when she was briefly out of earshot. "Shall we be heading back soon or shall our guest be helping with the task at hand? I would be happy to keep an eye on her for you if we are to stay... make sure she doesn't do something to compromise any of your people."
As the German spoke Hazel could quickly gather what he was discussing with the one who spoke to her and she could well understand his need to be cautious of strangers. But despite been displeased at herself at the way she reacted, there was still one thing she needed to know.
" Despite common belief, in the FBI we..." she gave a frown realising her words," I give you my word as long as your word holds, I'll show you no harm and it be courteous to tell a lady your names."
It had been to long with out company, plus the idea of joining a group again felt good and even if they were LAPD.
" I know the deal, if you got infected to put down, I'm willing to earn my keep and follow your orders." Out from her bag she took a bottle of water and to show it wasn't poisoned she took a gulp from it. With that she threw the water to the German as a sign to show she really did mean no harm." I don't mind getting my hands dirty."
"Shall we be heading back soon or shall our guest be helping with the task at hand? I would be happy to keep an eye on her for you if we are to stay... make sure she doesn't do something to compromise any of your people."
Ben thought about Christoph's question for a little bit as the three of them began walking back towards the nearby office building.. "We'll head back as soon as we can rotate people from 77th out here and back," Ben said, "which should be later today. And you'd be surprises, Hazel, at all the different groups we have: everything from LAPD, City and County Fire, CHP, California Guard, residents who used to live in South L.A. before everything blew up....about as eclectic a group as you will find." Pausing at the main entrance, Ben held the door for both Christoph and Hazel... "After both of you," he said, smiling.
Hazel gave a small grin as the stranger spoke about public servants together as a group, memories of her own group sprang to mind and the tragedy that happened to them. One question did spring to mind, ' Why did there group survive and not hers. Both sound pretty much similar and yet they were still standing. She held her grin even do it was a false one.
" A lot from are compound fought on the line when they came, FBI, San Francisco PD and more from around the surrounding city, " Taking a breath she continued, " Sounds like the same story as yours friend, only difference was are future got mutilated and eat." She could still remember the day as if yesterday when the Children of her last compound were taken, the day that she lost her own child.
Distracting herself, she jump back to names and spoke as if talking to children "Do you have names ?"
"Do you have names ?" Hazel asked them as they entered the office building; closing the door behind them, Ben said, "Ben Chambers, ma'am, and the gentlemen next to you is Christoph Neumann," as they passed a group from 77th, Ben waving to them as they walked by.
Entering one of the large rooms they'd turned into a makeshift command post, Ben sat down, but not before sliding seats out for both Hazel and Christoph. As he sat down, he asked, "So, anyway, Hazel, we don't get a lot of news on things outside the City of Angels; what, pray tell, is going on outside our fair city?" It sounded like a dumb question but one of the first questions he would always ask someone new to them is what was going on outside of Los Angeles.
Hazel took a seat. She listened to Ben, his question did seem dumb in her eyes and as if by natural law she reverted to FBI superiority.
" As I just said or do I need to repeat my self," Hazel didn't mean to get annoyed but she wasn't happy having to repeat herself full stop, " From San Francisco to Portland we waged a holy war against the fall of are children to the Raven Cannibals. We stirred a lot of infected as a result of are war. That was all we were focused on." She closed her eyes to calm herself and relaxed get tone ." Do you remember that nut job Kane, before the end he said an Native Indian warrior spirit guided him to kill some people and to eat his victims. We decided to take him off your hands when he gathered a following." She spoke as if she personal did the LAPD a favor.
Out from her waist she took her knife she used against him and stabbed it between her legs, " Ain't no one following him now," her voice changed as guilt followed to her voice and for once her eyes refused to look in to his as if guilty of a crime." Tell me have you ever crossed the line to protect those close to you."
Ask a dumb question, get an FBI response, Ben thought as both he and Christoph listened to Hazel's answer; despite the attitude she seemed to be passing off through her words - perfectly understandable, he thought - he'd heard of these Raven Cannibals, through the occasional survivor that traveled through the Golden State.... " Do you remember that nut job Kane, before the end he said an Native Indian warrior spirit guided him to kill some people and to eat his victims. We decided to take him off your hands when he gathered a following." She spoke as if she personal did the LAPD a favor.
"Yeah, I remember him," Ben said matter-of-factly; it was impossible for anyone in law enforcement back then not to remember who Kane was, "and his nutjob followers; we arrested a few of them down here in 77th trying to make trouble for the good people of this community....last I remember, they were over in the Twin Towers, which are still standing, by the way, despite Washington's efforts back then to shut 'em down," a subtle reminder that back in Past Times out in the City of Angels, D.C. didn't call the shots, the major-domo's on Spring Street at the former LAPD headquarters did...but that was neither here nor there, to his way of thinking....
" Tell me have you ever crossed the line to protect those close to you." The comment struck Ben like a thunderbolt; he sat back and thought about Hazel's words. Leaning forward, he looked Hazel square in the eye...."Before all this, I would've said no...nowadays, you do what you gotta' do; let the chips fall where they may, hope you made the right decision." A simple statement of fact; nothing more, nothing less.
One part of what he said hit home and she repeated it back to him, " You do what you gotta do, " For a minute she remained silent as her no d wandered," When the dust settles when the infected are gone, how will they judge us on the actions we took."
Placing her knife away she took a book out of her bag and threw it to Ben, " I like to keep file of things, met a one or two small groups on my journey, there locations are with in my book and also the location of my home near by. There you'll find a years supplies of food for one and some ammunition. There hidden around the house and the garden. Last but not least Military Humvee parked just down the road, almost half full of fuel."
Any doubt she had on the men had quickly disappeared and there was only one thing left to say." Agent Hazel Farrell at your service Ben Chambers, " With a few words Hazel had agreed Ben called the shots from here on and she was willing to follow orders. She reached her hand out if to seal a deal.

Christoph listened to all the talk about the law and as the woman spoke of her time in service with Ben. Christoph remembered the war he had fought in with horror in his mind. He had seen true horror long before this world erupted from the outbreak. He had been surviving on his own from time to time and realised a moment like now was not one to mention his own past.
"Danke for your calm and welcoming introduction Frau Hazel. I as stated am Christoph Neumann. If you had not guessed I am German, lived in the US of A for a few years and am a former member of the German military. At your service as we all should be each others."
Listening to Hazel's words, Ben said, "That's right....you do what you gotta' do and let the histories write themselves. Of course, when they do that, Agent Farrell," he added, shaking her hand with a firm grasp, "none of us will likely be around, so what we do while we're on this earth counts," pausing as Christoph introduced himself to Agent Farrell.
Before he could continue, one of his people stuck her head inside the room. "Ben," she said, "relief convoy's on its' way, ETA thirty minutes," ducking back outside the room. Blowing out a long breath, Ben said, "Well, looks like we're heading home for the time being. Agent Farrell, when we get back to the station, allow me to give you the ten-cent tour, with all the frills, of course," smiling at the thought of returning back to 77th Station after a couple days worth of activity at Hollywood Park.
Hazel sat back in her seat as the German introduced himself. All she could do at this stage was hope she had made the right decision and not sealed get fate. But all sign were looking good.
" Call me Hazel, please." Hazel said as she faced Ben. " I'll be happy to take the tour. "
One thing she couldn't wait for was a good night sleep, one were she didn't have to look over her shoulder and keep one eye open. She turned towards the German and couldn't help but ask the question.

Christoph sat cleaning his pipe in a chair. He smiled as he heard the relief convoy was coming to get them. Returning to the 77th Street base meant he could relax, return what supplies he had scavenged, sleep, eat and wash. He then smirked as Siegfried, his cat, meowed from his back pack and told him to calm down in German.
As the new woman spoke he looked up still cleaning his tobacco pipe "Who am I looking for? Its hard to believe it sometimes but my Kinder, my children. They were studying out this way... one was in College, the other boarding school. I travelled nearly half the country and I have been searching the state for them... Hoping to find a sign of where they are or what happened to them... So far my search hasn't shown much, but no news can be good news these days."
He then took out some Tobacco and lit his pipe puffing a few times to check it was working "So Miss Hazel, anybody you are looking for? Any family, friends, a night in shining armour perhaps? Do forgive me, we Germans love a good story."
