Describe your character's life before the Apocalypse:
- Aria lived with her Cuban mother Isa Perez in a poor neighborhood and had to deal with the short comings of a community that was riddled with poverty, crime and drugs. Growing up, Aria was bullied and got into fights and was often time on the receiving end of them. Her father, Vincent Coletti, was an Italian American prize fighter and enjoyed moderate success but spent very little time with Isa or Aria as the two had not been in a relationship prior to Aria's birth and after she was born, Vincent occasionally would send money their way but otherwise remained distant.
When Aria turned eleven, her mother died of cancer and Vincent opted to step in as legal guardian of his child and Aria moved to New York City. Like before however, she lived in a poor neighborhood and ran into much of the same problems. When Aria came home after only one week of living with Vincent and had a black eye, Vincent asked her what happened and if she defended herself. The answer was of course 'no' but Vincent then took it upon himself to teach Aria how to defend herself.
Vincent enjoyed the same moderate success at a fighting gym and taught Aria how to box in an effort to reach out and bond with his daughter as well as teach her how to fight and did so until she was fourteen. The way Aria would fight with some of the girls at her school (and sometimes boys) often ended up on the ground in a grapple. Vincent ended up paying for lessons in mixed martial arts which Aria took up very quickly and excelled at. Never once did Aria not have the support of her father and the two became very close.
Aria picked up MMA very quickly and would more often than not instigate the fights at school now that she had the means of winning and only when her father threatened to stop paying for the lessons, Aria begrudgingly accepted. When Aria graduated high school, she continued training with her MMA instructors and landed her first fight when she was nineteen. It wasn't exactly legal and the fight didn't draw in the crowds you'd expect but Aria won quickly and decisively, knocking her opponent out after bringing her to the ground and hit her with a hammer first repeatedly until the fight was called. The announcer screamed out Aria's name as the winner but added 'Hammer' to it for knocking out her opponent with a 'hammer first'. Aria had to admit she liked the name.
The rush of the fight was almost unreal but Aria made two promises to herself for her father. She would never fight again unless it was a legal match and she wouldn't fight unless she had her father's last name. She continued training for the next year and when she had her first actual amateur fight, she fought as Aria 'Hammer' Coletti. She won with the hammer fist.
Over the next several years, Aria continued to train on striking and grappling and she even went pro, landing a deal with the UFC. She went on to be the UFC's Women's Bantam Weight Champion with a record of 16-1-0 with her only loss being her second official UFC fight due to submission. Aria was crowned champion just before her father passed away of heart failure, but the sense of pride Vincent had for his daughter never waned.
What happened to your character on Outbreak Day?:
- There was news of a new bug going around as well as civil unrest that had been popping up in cities across the U.S. but that didn't stop the events, promotions and signings for the upcoming title fight that Aria was taking part in.
She was with her trainer Todd Rooker and her promoter Megan Tully during an event to promote her upcoming title fight with challenger Sara 'The Hurricane' West, when a member of the press suddenly collapsed during a weigh in. When people flooded in to attempt to help, the press member suddenly attacked and ripped the throat out of a near by would be do gooder.
Todd rushed Aria out with Megan close behind as well as the rest of Aria's team. When the group arrived to the SUV that took Aria to the weigh in, Aria climbed into the back seat. Just before Todd could do the same, he was attacked by a man who was missing most of his face. The man bit Todd's hand. Managing to break free, Todd hopped into the SUV and Megan climbed into the front seat as the driver gunned it.
During the panic, Megan informed the driver to get them to a hospital and as they made their way through an intersection, they were t-boned by an ambulance which killed everyone in the SUV except Aria.
Describe your character's life after the Apocalypse:
- After the 'Great Panic', Aria has been on the move from place to place and had grouped up with other survivors during the beginning but as time went on and things became more desperate, Aria knew she could truly only rely on herself as she saw how quickly people would turn on one another. It didn't help that she occasionally got headaches after her accident which sometimes would get so bad her equilibrium would be thrown off and she would need to rest in a seated position until it passed.
Often times Aria found herself at odds with other survivors who would either try and steal things from her or seek to do her harm since she frequently went on surviving on her own and she was forced to either hurt them back or kill them. When forced to defend herself in that way, she felt exactly like she did when she was in school. She was only defending herself from bullies and defend herself she did.
The last few years have been difficult but Aria had managed to survive thus far and she would continue to for as long as she could.
