Describe your character's life before the Apocalypse:
- Before the world ended, Jaisyn was a woman in love with her entire life. Though she enjoyed the affections of either gender, her heart belonged to Kristen - a personal trainer at Vixen. They had a home together in central Louisville - one of the busiest cities of Kentucky. Not only was she happy with her love life, Jai adored her job. It made her proud to see women pushing themselves, to become healthy and active. However, finding such happiness did cause her to lose touch with her family who lived in Elizabethtown a couple hours south. They were deeply religious and though Jai did like men, her family believed her liking women as well was wrong and horrific.
Regardless of her family's reservations, Jaisyn ignored it all and did her best to allow herself to be a proud woman of color. She and Kristen would frequent local LGBT rallies and donated to a few charities that focused on the LGBT youth. They also had a german shepherd named Mollie they would take with them on their trips.
What happened to your character on Outbreak Day?:
- When it all started going downhill, and fast, Kristen and Jaisyn holed up in their townhouse, along with Mollie and a neighbor who had gotten attacked on the street. The day of, however, Jaisyn recalls it vividly. She had just returned home from Vixen after rumors of cannibalistic attacks circulating around the work out stations. Jai had turned on the television to watch the updated news. The somewhat frazzled looking reporter was on the scene in northern Louisville, advising watchers, and the nation, to remain indoors. Panicked and fearing for hers and Kristen's safety, she called her girlfriend to demand she come home; Kristen had stayed late at Vixen to help clean up.
The call had gone straight to voice mail. Before she could grab her keys, Kristen came stumbling through the front door, Jerry from next door clinging to her for dear life. He shouted, "close the door!" Jai shut the door after them and locked both mechanisms on the door an instant before someone, or something, started to bang on the other side. Jaisyn saw her neighbor's neck bleeding and demanded to know what happened. After learning what had happened, Jai tried to call 911, but the line was never picked up. After several attempts, Kristen decided to try and take him to the hospital herself. But it was too late.
Jerry died on their couch and arose a mere twenty minutes later. He attacked the women with a ferocity neither of them could have guessed. Thinking quickly, Jai grabbed a knife out of the block on the kitchen counter and stabbed him in the cut, and the heart. Jerry just kept coming. Mollie, their dog, bolted into Jerry from the side, taking him down and Jai on top of him. By sheer accident, the knife plunged itself into Jerry's eye socket. He stopped moving and snarling beneath Jaisyn. Even through all that, the only thing that truly pissed Jaisyn off that day was when the water stopped working mid-shower.
Describe your character's life after the Apocalypse:
- With Kristen and Mollie at her side, Jai did her best to keep them all alive. Being in a townhouse had its advantages. Only one door, the front one, and one singular window on the first floor. It was boarded up the day the dead started to rise and eat the flesh of the living. The windows on the second floor was covered in curtains, which shielded the dead from seeing them peeking out. They stayed on lockdown for two weeks, eating the food they had bought from their last grocery trip - the cold stuff went first. After that, it was rough pickin's. They took turns hunting for food in neighboring homes, or even trading with those that remained on their street. Toilet paper for some extra water and beans; that sort of thing.
After they ran out of food, and things they were willing to let go of for food, they decided to trek outward and onward. After leaving Louisville, they headed south to hunt for Jai's family. Though they were estranged from each other, Jai needed to know if they made it. Elizabethtown was a ghost town upon their arrival in Kristen's Jeep. Not a soul was to be seen, only a few shambling dead. Not only did Jai not find her family, upon trying to leave Elizabethtown, she lost Kristen. A few scavengers had been trying to steal their meager supplies, and after a scuffle and shots fired, Kristen was shot in the stomach. Jaisyn managed to chase off the two who had attacked them and found Kristen bleeding to death. It took all of her will, resolve, and her heart to break to end it for the love of her life.
After kissing Kristen's cold lips goodbye, Jai and Mollie took to the east, heading toward the coast. In her mind, once food manufactured was gone, the rivers and ocean would be the best source of meat and even vegetation. Numb and in shock, Jaisyn drove through Central Kentucky, where she lost Mollie. She still doesn't know to this day if that damn dog is alive or not - Mollie simply jumped out of the Jeep's open door while Jai was heading back to the car, barking her head off at something. After two days of searching for Mollie, Jaisyn had to stop looking as a hoard began to shamble and stalk its way through town. Feeling broken and hopeless, she sped away, low on gas and food.
