Declan took off his jacket putting it in the hall. His tool belt was wrapped around the waist where his shirt and jeans meet. Declan looked around, it was surprising how neat it actually looked all things considered. He took off his tool belt putting it on top of his jacket. Declan walked into the kitchen. Standing in the doorway he observed the two, the girl who had a gun just moments ago pointed at his head had scars on her wrists. He would have to remember to not mention that. Declan walked forward. "Need any help with anything?" He asked, leaning on the counter.
Addilyn nodded and saw the glance at he arms, but ignored it. She walked to the pantry and looked around in it. At the top there where some chips and rolls. She reached up and her sleeves fell to her elbows revealing tons of scars along her arms. She sighs and rolls her sleeves back down to her wrists.
"We have some Doritos and some bread rolls" she smiles at the thought of food "I don't exactly think it goes with ravioli but there's not much else"
She turns to Charles "I never got my knife" she says flatly handing the chips and rolls to Sarah "I don't think I should be weaponless"
She looks at the new man "Who are you again?" she looks him up and down "Oh, and I'm Addilyn"
She stands looking at Abby, Sarah, Charles, and the man.
Declan listened to the conversation before he was asked who he was. "Oh, I'm Declan" He says. Declan stands leaning on the counter again. He takes his rucksack off his back taking a swig of his flask. He then walks out the hall putting the rucksack with his jacket and tool belt. He sat there for a moment, lost in thought. How could this happen to the world? Is this just a nightmare? He thinks about the person he had hit the first day who he thought was human, it was a walker. Declan straightened back up walking into the kitchen again. "So is there anyway I can help?" He asks again.
"Not right now, you asked that twice, once is usually sufficient. Will need some help in the morning when we have the light on our side."
He reached into his pocket and grabbed the knife. He gave it back to her and looked over to Sarah.
"You brought the pack in right? We still have some food left in there if we need more. Don't really want to go out to the Knight right now but I will if I have to."
Abby held an arm load of Max's clothes and a wet towel. She halted at the door to the kitchen as she saw the new man. Who the fuck was this? She looked at Sarah, then Addylin, and raised a brow. "Um..hi...I'm Abby." She moved through the kitchen towards the pantry and utility room, 'Hey, Sarah..I am gonna put some clothes in the washing machine, I know we aren't using the lights, but thought we could take advantage and wash some clothes." She retreated and came back, eyes falling on the counter. She saw the opened cans, and the bag of chips, but wrinkled her nose at the bread, 'Better check that for mold, it looks home made, doesn't it. Wonder how long it's been there, those bodies upstairs had been there days, if not longer." She moved back in the pantry and found peanut butter, 'Oh my god...." she grinned like a kid as she unscrewed the cap and made a face , 'damnit...that can not be good." She glanced at the new guy, 'So..those your tools? We found a shitload out back, maybe you can help get the place boarded up and all that?" She smiled at him, then moved over to Sarah, 'I got Max in bed...gonna take him up some food, if that's ok?" She glanced at everyone and then moved over to her box and pulled out some of the bags of jerky, 'We got this...if anyone wants some. " She grabbed a bowl and once the ravioli was warm, she scooped some out and headed upstairs with a spoon and a bottle of water.
Declan nodded at the new girl's questions. "Anyway I'm going to go to sleep so i'll see you guys in the morning." Declan goes into the hall lying down using his jacket as a pillow. He put his rucksack and tool belt to the side. He yawned. All the walking had made him really tired he hadn't realised until now. Declan sat up for a moment. He pulled out the phone. He powered it up, it still had 28% battery. He made a entry into his notes. Found a settlement etc. He then powered it off then put it back. He lied back down then went to sleep. (GTG)

Max saw abby come in and smiled at her. He sat up on the bed and motioned for her to come sit beside him. "This new guy downstairs? Was he alright? Or do I need to go down," he asked as he leaned back, "actually I forget it. I trust Charlie can handle it. He'd kill him if he had cause too. I actaully think Charlie is willing to kill given any reason. He probably killed people before all this." Max could tell charlie had, by the way he didn't hesitate and was willing. He was like him, not some two bit waitress or crazy nun. Max took the bowl from her and took a bite. It burnt his lip on first contact and he pulled away. "Good Damb that's hot," he said a he blew on his next bite. "Did you get some for yourself? Or am I dinning alone," he said raising a brow. "Stay here. Well get some food then come stay here. I'd feel safer with you here. Plus you can keep me company. They can handle anything downstairs. There's enough of them now." He took another bite. "This is really good. Not as good as the soup yesterday, but still good. We can't get used to eating like this though. Have to ration it, small meals not these big large ones." He didn't finish the bowl, he was hoping abby would get some for herself and join him.
Abby got to the top of the steps and heard him shifting on the bed. She shook her head and went in,"he seems alright, quiet, but he has tools with him,I'm thinkin he is some kinda carpenter, construction or something." She sat down by him,"afraid to let me outta your sight?" She chuckled softly as he burnt his mouth,"I know we can't,we won't but we need to eat good every now and then. " abby frowned and looked sad for a minute,"found peanut butter,in the pantry, but it was all syrupy when I opened it." She sighed,"if I go get some will you eat?'
Abby was concerned about this while situation. He seemed to trust Charlie, and the two of them seemed on the same page it seemed."you really wanna stay here, make a go of something normal?" She felt like maybe he was wanting to do this for her,and not so much him. Abby stood up,"I will grab another spoon,we can share, that way we don't over eat?" She looked around the room, it was half in shadow due to the candle light."I honestly am not that hungry, what I really want is a bath." She had that goofy grin again.
Sarah was lost in her task til Abby came in,"sure,I am sure we all have clothes we need washed, but we can't do it everyday," she didn't wanna push that gennie too hard. She watched Addylin and was glad she had chilled out. Abby's comment about the bread made her check it and she shivered and made a face as she flipped it over and saw green. Gah, gross. She tossed it in the trash,"tomorrow we need to go through that pantry and the cellar and really,"as if the thought just hit her," this whole house, see what is really here." She glanced at Declan,"you can get bowls and spoons for eceryone." But he disappeared not long after Abby went back upstairs. She glanced at Charlie, and je knew the look. It was the we need to talk look. She drug out a few bottles of water and set them on the counter,"Addylin...there is a couch in the living room you can take til we figure more things out."

Max took another bite when she spoke of the new man downstairs. "A carpenter does sound usefull. He can help board an fix this place up," he said smiling. He watche her sit down "just want you safe. Plus I'm lonely," he said pouting, his bottom lip sticking out. When she aske about staying he put his spoon down, "usually I don't like staying in one place for a long time. But I think if we stay we can actaully make it. It's saf here for now. I want us to be safe." He watched her stand, "yeah you get a spoon and we can share," he said smilling. When she had left he flung his feet over the bed. He stood, his knees weak as he walked. He put the bowl on a dresser and walked out of the room. He went to the bathroom and kneeled down in frot of the tub. Pushing the stopper he began to run some water, slowly filling the tub. The candle light still flickered in the room as he watched the water rise. Taking some bubbles he squirted it in, creating a bubble bath for Abby.
Abby paused at the bottom of the steps. The new guy, Declan was bedded down in the hall way. She moved closer to him and nudged him gently with the toe of her sneaker, 'Um...hey...it's gonna be much warmer in the living room. You should move in there, even if you wanna do the floor, I got a blanket you can use." She smiled at him, then moved into the kitchen.
She glanced around at Addylin, Sarah and Charlie, 'I am gonna probably be up there the rest of the night. I found some pain pills in the medicine cabinet, and he took one and it's knocked him for a loop." She chuckled and then grabbed her pack off the table, pulling the blanket out of it. "if you guys need us, just come and get us, I mean I know we still need to take a watch. "she shook her head and glanced at the ceiling, "Well, I do anyway." She grabbed a spoon off the counter and told them all good night, before heading back to the hall. She handed Declan the blanket, 'Here..." she smiled and then went back up the stairs. As she made her way up she heard water running.
Charles followed Sarah into the kitchen and grabbed the bowls and silverware. He had to rinse them out because didst had settled on them. He almost laughed that he was worrying about a little dust when for the last God knew how long they had been basically eating whatever they could find, wherever they could find it.
He leaned over to whisper in Sarah's ear. "I know we need to talk and as soon as we get a chance I promise we will."
He continued what he was doing as if he hadn't said a thing but she would understand why. Sometimes it felt like they knew each other better then he had ever known any person in his life.
He dished them all a portion and handed Sarah hers and then walked out and handed Addilyn a bowl. Once he had he motioned to the porch.
"Me and Sarah are going to eat on the porch Addilyn could you keep an eye on the sleeper for us?"
He wanted to make the new girl feel usefull, to give her a stake in what they were making here. It was a tactic he had used with great success with his subordinates before and he was hoping it would still work now.
Outside there was a porch swing and he walked out, Sarah surely behind him, and say down. The fire was still burning down where they had set the growlers bodies but luckily the stench was gone.
Declans eyes fluttered open as he was nudged. "Hmm..Oh thanks." He stood stretching slightly. He was then handed a blanket. "Thanks." He nodded and walked off to the living room. He took his jacket with him as a pillow. He rolled it up and put it on the floor, Declan yawned and sat down, he observed the room, candle light flickered illuminating the area slightly, it wouldn't attract much attention from walkers which was good. He went back to the near miss with the walkers when he done the supply run in the gas station. This was the world he now lived in and it was hell. Declan yawned and lay back wrapping up in the blanket. He turned onto his side and went to sleep.
Sarah grabbed her coat off the table and slipped it on. It was growing cold outside. Why did he have to pick outside? She shook her head and followed him, snagging a blanket off the kitchen table as well. He could freeze if he wanted to, she was going to be warm. She glanced into the living room and then went behind him out the door.
Sarah sat down on the porch swing and then glanced at him as she opened the blanket and laid it over her lap, holding the one flap up for him to sit, 'you did bring a gun, right?" She didn't want to be sitting out here vulnerable.
They were outside and the others within, but she still kept her tone low, 'I am glad you understood me. "she smiled at him, 'funny how I didn't have to say anything." She took her bowl from him as he sat down, "the girl...did you see her arms? " she scooped some ravioli into her mouth, swallowed and then went on, 'You really wanna make a go with these people? I mean..Max..is a hot head...and he obviously doesn't think, taking pills like that." She sighed , 'Abby...I think she's scared to death and putting up a good front, and she is utterly beholden to that man." She frowned and scooped up some more food, swallowed, 'New guy, seems quiet...but I think he will be alright, could really help out around her if we stay." She glanced at him, 'I know, i know...I talk too much, I think too much." She grinned at him and rolled her eyes, though doubted he could see it.
"Of course I did," he says patting his mp7 sitting in it's holster. He should have grabbed the 1911 but he had forgotten. He had his knife as well so they were not defenseless.
"I'm not really sure about the two new people. Max may be a hot head but he's got skills that we are going to need. Abby is nice, I agree that she is scared but he'll so am I. I couldn't put them out or you likely would have shot me," he joked, with a small laugh.
"Either way we need the numbers if we're going to pull off the run I want to make. You remember when we talked about going to a military base? Well Fort Bragg isn't far from here, and if we're going to make a home we'll need things from there, weapons, mre's. There should be a lot of stuff thrre. It's a dangerous run but with all of us... we may be able to pull it off."
Sarah's face didn't say anything, but her spoon stared to tremble and she sat it in her bowl. He was close enough he would feel her trembling, "Charlie...I don't know, you know that alot of people went to the military for help after all hell broke loose, that place is going to be crawling with growlers." She stared at the bowl, and took a few deep breaths, 'You really wanna make something of this place, then, and it is worth risking your life for that?" She glanced over at him, 'I...don't know if I can, it's ...Charlie...after the school..the boy." She was trembling and it wasn't from the cold, "We can't ask these people to risk their lives like that, what if something goes wrong? He must have known how she would react, because so far he hadn't said a word.
He grabbed her hand and waited for her to say her peace. He had known this was coming and he had prepared himself for it. She was right in a sense. This was risky, hell downright deadly, but what in this world wasn't. When she finally stopped he looked her straight in the eyes.
"We can't do it out there anymore. I'm breaking Sarah. That boy... it almost did me in and when Addilyn showed up today... I wanted to kill her... If I stay out there any longer I'm not going to make it. Not the way you need me to."
He ate a bite of his food and then looked at her again.
"I'm asking these people to make a life with us. Any risks they take will be for them too. Hell look at the guy. He wasn't inside for 5 minutes before he passed out. Addilyn is obviously having a nervous meltdown. I think they need this too. And God knows Max and Abby deserve to be able to play out their emotions in safety. Thus is a hell of a risk but by the looks of it we all need it."
Addilyn took a deep breath before heading into the living room. She sat on the couch and rolled up her sleeves. She ran her fingers up and down her arms the scars making bumps on the underside of her forearm. She let a few small tears fall from her eyes. What was she doing? She was weak. "I should be dead" she mumbles. She watched Declan sleep, so peaceful. When she slept she tossed and turned and was up several times. A few of her tears landed on her scars it made her smile. Addilyn rolled her sleeves down. She listened to Sarah and Charles talk, and listened to the running water upstairs. She clenched her fists suddenly angry, soon the anger was replaced by sorrow and regret. "Why? Why? Why?" she asks herself, she took another deep breath.
Sarah nodded, she understood what he was saying, 'I understand what you mean, I am just, worried, that's all." She let go of his hand and fingered her cross, 'Charlie, if we all leave what's to keep someone else from finding this place? I mean, we need to leave people here too, I would think." She glanced over at him, 'And you would be safer if I didn't go, you would concentrate on what you're doing and not on protecting me like you always do."
Sarah was caught, caught between her faith, her feelings and her fear. "I mean, God has given a good opportunity here, but I am scared to take the next steps, I suppose. " She was finished eating, no longer hungry. She kept thinking about that boy and how Charlie had done what she could not. She was a hinderance to him at times, they both knew that and in this case, that could get him killed.
"I know..." He struggled to find the words that he needed to say, the words that would express the turmoil building inside of him.
He knew that she couldn't come, that her indecision could get them all killed, but the notion of leaving her alone, the notion of possibilities outside of his control that could forever separate them... it was unthinkable. He could not imagine a world now that did not include her. It would be a half world at best. Though she would probably laugh at him, he depended on her as much as she depended on him. She was his reason for living, he had to make sure that the new world would have her goodness in it. They couldn't all be like him and Max, that kind of a world was not worth living for.
"What if someone comes while we're gone? Could you handle that? Could you... protect yourself... no matter what that meant? Because if you can't... Then I simply can't go. I won't leave you here unless I know I'll be coming back to you."
His heart hammered away. He felt raw, naked, and exposed. His tough outer layer was gone and his weakness was exposed. He felt like a small child, begging his parents not to leave because when they left they didn't exist.
"If I do this, and you stay behind. I need to know you'll be safe."
