Dean waited in the car with William. His knee was bouncing up and down in anticipation. Then should have rolled out already. Dean pulled out his revolver and checked the ammo. There was only four shot in the chamber. He fished in his pocket and emerged with two rounds to fill the empty spots. He knew Castle was a no nonsense type of military meathead. But he didnt know much about William. Dean wondered if he was going to have to make room in back for the dog again. Dean had a dog before. It was a dachsund. Not exactly a manly type of dog, but it was a present from a girlfriend he had in high school. They were in a pet store just killing time and Dean had saw the dog, there was a instant connection. His girlfriend later went back and adopted the dog for a birthday gift for Dean. Truth be told he loved that dog more than he had loved her. But honestly who knows about love, real love in high school? He named him Lucky. Like there was a less cliche thing he Could have named him. Lucky died before the outbreak. Nothing tragic just old age. As they waited for Castle and his dog Dean played with the name tag of the dog collar he wore on his wrist. It was Lucky's collar Dean had kept it. And every day he survived he considered himself "Lucky." Castle was the lucky one to still have his canine best friend after everything turned to shit. He wondered why Castle always seemed to be in a bad mood.
Dean looked up from his thoughts and Castle wasn't making his way down yet. What's taking so long? Dean noticed the other Humvee pulling out. The one with Jessica Camilia and that big fella. Dean knew he could handle himself. And he had seen Castle in action. The man may be an ass but he moved with tactical percision. Everything he did had purpose. That purpose was to kill efficiently. He bet William was no slouch out ther either. He was quiet, but he struck Dean as a man who was constantly evaluating the situation making mental tweeks on the fly. Dean did not have a good feeling about the other Humvee however. Two of its occupants were on the verge of a breakdown from what he could tell. He had no idea why they were offered up as runners but it wasn't his call, he only hoped they'd come back safe.
Dean decided to pass the time while they waited for Castle and his canine counterpart.
"So Willy what's your story?"
He asked well aware He probably didn't like to be called Willy. A bit more of Dean's personality was emerging as he became more comfortable around people again. And his real personality could be playfuly obnoxious and a bit of a smartass.
