Yankee Stadium, D+3 days
The first three days inside Yankee Stadium went almost according to schedule, Tegan mused as her team sat inside one of the large banquet rooms on the second floor, but why didn't Daniel tell us the whole front area was like the E-Ring at the Pentagon?
It was a valid point, though one she didn't put on Daniel's shoulders; the reason as simple: when the stadium was built, the whole front of the stadium - the part fronting 161st Street, Jerome Avenue and River Avenue - was designed as one long, long concourse, which meant the whole concourse had to be secured before they went inside the stadium proper. On the other hand, Tegan mused, it also meant it might not take as long to search the stadium as they'd originally thought....plus, she smiled, looking up at the ceiling a moment, at least Daniel got the lights and water going.
That last part was especially important; going in, everyone thought the stadium would be one cold, dead - no pun intended - place, and three years in, no one thought the stadium infrastructure - internal power, water, central air - would still be working. That went out the window, Tegan thought, thanks to those wrench heads Daniel brought with him; after nearly two days of non-stop work, the half-dozen or so maintenance techs had pulled off what everyone, Tegan included, had thought would be impossible...Yankee Stadium - bless its' crappy heart, she thought - was once again a living, breathing location in an otherwise dead city. For how long, no one knew, but thanks to Pontius and his Suicide Climbers, the stadium at least had a backup plan: three large solar panels 'appropriated' from Rikers Island the day before and installed rather hastily on top of the outside facade facing onto 161st Street...as Tegan thought about it, somewhere back at the Hive, Marcus is missing a couple of solar panels...oh, well.
But before they could enjoy the stadium's few amenities, everyone still had a job to do. Getting up from her comfy, if somewhat uncomfortable seat on the floor, Tegan whistled to everyone to get their attention. "Ruck up, guys," she said to them, reaching back down to grab her backpack and rifle, "and let's get ready to go again."
