Describe your character's life before the Apocalypse:
Cassidy was born in Queens, New York to a police commissioner and a police chief. He grew up there, under strict supervision and guidance. Immersed in the lifestyle of his parents, he did well in school and it was no surprise to anyone when he decided to become part of the police force himself. He joined the police academy fresh out of high school, and it wasn't long before he became an officer. He had drive and a talent for the job, and he moved up the ranks at an alarming speed. Of course, it helped that both of his parents were in such high positions. But through hard work and dedication, Cassidy was lucky enough to land himself a job as an undercover agent very early in his police career. He worked espionage cases with his fellow agents, helping crack cases wide open, until he got assigned to what would be the largest, and most complicated, case of his career.
Out in California, a man by the name of Geoffrey Bridges was suspected of having ties to an international drug ring. He dealt in big business, but the officials at hand could never get a tag on him when it came to his business and records. He was clean and careful, and so they assigned an agent to go undercover and infiltrate his home. Cassidy was given a new identity under the name of James Wentworth, and he was shipped out to California as a new butler for Geoffrey and his new wife, Camilla. Once he arrived, he quickly adapted to his role as a butler, and as days turned to months, Cassidy was able to use his position to move easily within the house and uncover as much information as he could. But there was one flaw that would throw him off of his game, one large mistake that would throw a wrench into his plans.
He fell in love.
He had never expected it, had never tried to, but he had fallen in love with Camilla, and she felt the same way for him. Together, they embarked on a secret relationship behind closed doors and between business meetings. For years, Cassidy would balance his relationship with Camilla and his duties as an officer, uncovering bigger players at large just out of sight, hiding in the shadows. Everything was going according to plan until an unexpected incident stopped Cassidy in his tracks. Camilla had fallen pregnant, and she swore that it was his. Unsure of what to do, of how the case's outcome would ultimately affect her, he tweaked the things he knew in order to draw out his time with them.
She gave birth to a boy when Cassidy was twenty-three, and she named him Calvin. Cassidy was a father to him in every way imaginable, except for the one that he wanted. The hired help, he took care of him and raised him, a skeleton father, but was never able to influence his actions or decisions. As he grew up, he became spoiled and entitled, and there was nothing that Cassidy could do. Being the only "son" of one of the wealthiest and most powerful men in California, it was bound to happen. Calvin wanted for nothing, except the attention and love from his "father." Geoffrey was too busy running a syndicate to pay him any attention, and Calvin went as far as skimming the top of his father's batches and developing a drug habit to try and get it. Cassidy watched, helpless, as he destroyed himself, but was always there to help him pick up the pieces.
He was there for his first words, his first steps. He was there for the the good times and the bad, the break ups and the break downs. He was always there, in the shadows, watching him from afar, helping him as best as he could without raising any suspicions. He loved his son desperately, but would never actually be a father to him in the way that he wanted. When Cassidy found out that Calvin was skimming the tops of his father's shipments, incriminating himself, Cassidy did what he had to to make sure that Calvin would never fall in harm's way. The case would never be solved, not if it got Calvin in trouble.
What happened to your character on Outbreak Day?:
The chance to end it all came on outbreak day. Geoffrey was holding a conference with his contacts from around the world, and Cassidy had managed to finally find his in. He was to cater the event, in and out, and planned on catching them in incriminating conversations in the meantime. During the meeting, there was a disagreement over territories and money, and Geoffrey shot a man in the chest to prove a point, killing him for all to see. But the man came back to life, and he began to attack everybody in the conference room. It was chaos, but Cassidy snapped into action and dropped his guise, killing the infected and the men in the room, including Geoffrey. Those who hadn't been shot in the head came back, and Cassidy had to put them down a second time. Something wasn't right. Horrified, he rushed out of the room and sought out Camilla and Calvin. He heard screaming from the garden, and he bolted out there as quickly as he could. Camilla was being attacked by the gardener, who had turned. She screamed for "James" to help her as she was eaten alive, defending Calvin with her own body. Unable to save her, Cassidy killed the gardener, and stayed with what was left of her as she died. He put her out of her misery against her will, and when he checked Calvin for wounds, the boy was fine bodily, but was totally broken over the terrible loss of his mother. Cassidy was just as broken over the loss of his lover.
Describe your character's life after the Apocalypse:
Calvin was traumatized by the horrific death of his mother, and at first, he couldn't even speak. He couldn't move. He was broken, and in an attempt to stave off an even bigger mental breakdown, Cassidy hid the truth from him. To know that his whole life was a lie, that Cassidy was not only an undercover agent, but also his father, would break him. Cassidy stayed with him in the house as long as he could, but once it got too dangerous, he forced the boy to leave, and they have been travelling ever since. Recently, they have arrived in Tennessee, looking for a safe place to rest their heads.
Not wanting to shatter his delicate psyche, Cassidy treats Calvin like a delicate vase and keeps his origins to himself. To Calvin, Cassidy is the butler that helped raise him, and the man who currently keeps him alive. He knows him as James, and refers to him as such. Cassidy has been living a lie for half of his life, and now that it has been cemented by Calvin's fragile mental state, he doesn't know who he is anymore.
