Rhett wasn't worried about supplies. He had been stocking up. He had at least three weeks worth of dried jerky, canned goods, dried cereal hell he even had food as exotic as stale pop tarts. And when's the last time anyone's seen a fucking pop tart? Rhett even had boxes upon boxes of water flavoring to make koolaid no sugar needed. Most of Rhett's meals consisted of beef jerky and koolaid he was in redneck heaven. Now most of Rhett's stash could be considered stolen, but Rhett liked to think of it as borrowed without permission and a pump action shotgun is very persuasive. Rhett dried away his bullshit tears and resisted the urg to smile at having fooled her. He liked this girl, Rhett thought she probably didn't bring much in the way of survival skill and she was about as gullible as they came. But dammit if he didn't like her just the same.
"Take a look at this sweetheart."
Rhett stepped away from Hailie and popped the trunk. Hailie cautiously walked around to the trunk and gasped. He had so much food, and water too. He had emergency flares and three Jerry cans of gasoline. He had so many supplies. Then Hailie saw something that made her stomach sink again and made her afraid, she saw what looked like a human face under a tarp in the back of the trunk. Did Rhett kill people for these supplies? Is that their body under that tarp? Rhett saw her horrified expression and saw what she was looking at.
"Oh that's just Nina, we're in a semi serious relationship. She was bad so she sleeping in the trunk."
Rhett pulled the tarp back and revealed a partially blown up blow up doll. Hailie breathed a sigh of reliefe. She took what he said about the semi serious relationship as a joke about began to laugh a little. Rhett wasn't kidding though he talked to the doll as much as he did Frank and in his sick cracked mind Nina was real. But she pissed him off so he locked her in the trunk as punishment. Rhett closed the trunk and noticed Hailie look at Frank in disgust again as they neared the front of the car.
"You haven't seen the dead up close have you? You certainly haven't killed any that's for certain. Look I'm not 100%, but i can help keep you safe and your welcome to have some of my food, anything in the trunk your welcome to. Except Nina she's only for me. I'll pull my weight around here in exchange for letting me stay i'll fix whatever needs fixin' im real good at that shit."
Rhett imagined this rancher gal had never met anyone like him before in her whole life. Rhett smiled another big toothy grin at her. Rhett knew that smile made him somehow a little more trustworthy.
"Watdya say lady? We got a deal?"

Hailie felt bad for the man as the crocodile tears started to fall, but just as quickly as the waterworks started to fall, they dried up, like a spigot that had just been turned off. He took her to the trunk of the car and the first thing she saw was all the supplies, but under a tarp, it looked like a body. Could she run it by him not to have a body in the trunk? After all, he had the head of his brother on the hood, but when revealed the plastic blow up doll, she felt a little relieved. She also felt a little nauseated knowing she was standing a few feet from the very thing he stuck his dick in. And he had a name for it.
"Yea, well, why don't you just leave her in the trunk for now. She looks comfortable enough.
She smiled, just a little, as she said that, stepping back as she took in the amount of supplies. It would last, but still not a lifetime here at the ranch.
"I've killed a few when I need to. It's not like they stay away from the ranch, but they don't get out here much. From what I've heard, they seem to migrate more east from the city. Then again, I've heard there isn't anything left of the city." She didn't mention the fact she lost her husband or that she was even married. She didn't know this guy but he seemed to want to stay and it didn't even seem like there was anywhere for him to go anyways.
He was a rough guy, the kind she would have never associated with before all this, but here they were, stuck together in the middle of nowhere, at the river.
"Do you know how to fish? If you can catch fish from the river then we have a deal. Those ranch hands you tried to save? They fished and I've learned how to smoke the catch to preserve it."
Rhett paused a moment. He couldnt remember the last time he had fished. looking back. he cant really claim to ever have much success at it. What the hell he would give it a whirl. Tomorrow he'd see about catching fish. Rhett's stash would due for the moment until he figured out how to actually catch some fish, but if this girl really could cook up a good fish they were in for some good eatin. Nina had to stay in the trunk. Hailie didn't want Nina in the house. That was fine Nina had become a little clingy lately. Nina would be pissed she was the jealous type, but ah fuck it. Down in the driveway a two walkers were leaning on the fence. Rhett hadnt noticed til just now, Rhett smiles. He hadnt killed a walker in days he missed the thrill of it. Rhett walked over to his driver's side door and opened it. Grabbing his machete he started heading down to the fence to take care of them. He paused a moment and turned to Hailie.
"Would you like to do the honors?"
He only asked caused he wanted to see how she handled herself around the dead. She seemed sorta flighty like she was considering leaving the Ranch herself. If she could deal with the dead she might stand a chance out there. Hailie shook her head and Rhett decided he'd deal with this threat. Rhett calmly walked down to them. His fingers danced on the handle of his machete. Rhett let his mind wander as he walked down the hill. He came here thinking he'd find a nice crash pad and be on his way. What he found was a woman. She claims to have killed walkers when she needed to, but Rhett did it because it was fun. The apocalypse ended a lot of lives it only made Rhett's more interesting. He thrived in this world and the fact that he was having fun only made people weary of of him. But who needs people right? I mean surely this girl wasn't thrilled to have Rhett staying at the ranch but he bet she disliked the loneliness more. Rhett approached the walkers a third one had joined them.
Rhett walked up to the first one and kicked through its kneecap causing it to fall down. Raising his machete he lopped of the second walkers head and kicked the servered head into the woods. It ricocheted off a tree and dissapeared into the brush. Turning his back on the third walker, who was about 5 feet away. Rhett stomped the skull of the fallen walker turning it's head to a puddle of mush beneth his cowboy boot. Rhett checked the bottom of his boot as the third walker lunged for him. Rhett turned and grabbed it by the neck . He shoved the machete through its face sending a blood sprey across Rhett's face. Hailie may not have killed them but at least he could gauge her reaction to seeing them killed. Rhett was truly curious now. Rhett walked back up to the ranch still shirtless. His face and chest covered in walker blood. He walked up to Hailie who had been watching. Rhett was smiling ear to ear, he loved killing walkers.
"So i'm going to take my stuff inside, what room you want me in?"
Rhett said casually.

Hailie was happy to do the honors of killing a couple of walkers that straggled out from the desert. What was left of their skin was boiled and blistered from the heat of the desert sun and she wondered if that's what killed him. It likely was. People didn't just wander out this way. They usually got stranded the further south they went.
She followed him out, kicking up dirt and dust as he moved towards the fence himself, looking to take care of this. She pulled her gun out of her back pocket and stepped back. When he asked if she would like the honors, she shook her head slowly, hand around the handle, fingers on the trigger as she allowed him to take the lead in all this. She wanted to see what he could do.
What she saw wasn't just him taking down a couple of walkers. It was him enjoying talking down a couple of walkers. She knew they wouldn't have lasted anyways out here. Sometimes the vultures just picked them apart as they shuffled through and other times they just went dormant in the heat or the cold. Sometimes though, they did manage to break through. As he went to town on them, she shook her head and headed back for the ranch. Maybe he would stay, maybe he would go. She didn't know and really, she didn't care. He was proving himself to be a bit of a live wire in the first hours of him being sentient.
When he finally came back up she furrowed a brow at his appearance, keeping that gun close and ready to use if need be.
"You look like shit. And you looked like you were enjoying that a little too much."
She crossed her arms and tilted her head as she looked at him.
"You use the pump out back and wash yourself up first before you step foot in the house. Otherwise, you get to sleep in the barn. I hear the haystacks are soft."
Rhett wasn't sure his charm would work on her and it didn't really. Over the next couple days she tried to tolerate hiss quirks out of sheer kindheartedness, but his perversions were more than she could stand. She kicked Rhett off the ranch glad to be rid of him nina and frank. Rhett let her keep the supplies he offered her and the two parted ways. Rhett decided to head east sick of the hot dessert. He decided to tour the country seeing how the greatest cities in America held up after the apocalypse. He always wanted to see bourbon street.
