The winter had been the longest since the walkers came, at stages she began to doubt if the winter would ever end and the loss of Richards child didn't help either. But for her it had felt good to finally get revenge on those who hurt her deep, but not as good as she had hoped she would and maybe that was one wound she often wondered that may never heal. So many things ran through her head daily. There was also Aiden whom she still had mixed emotions on, she still couldn't help but feel the guilt over what had happened to him and plus also if she should even have feelings for him full stop. There was a time when life seemed black and white. He was seen as the bad guy and she was the good. Hazel wasn't sure nowadays what colour she was, she knew one thing which was that she wasn't white anymore do to the things she had done in the name of vengeance and her own personal Justice.
There up north plan had remained on track, it was slow but they were still keeping Alaska as their final destination. With Aiden's injures plus Richards loss, Hazel had taken matters into her own hands and had taken temporary leadership till wounds were healed. She left the wounds of the brothers in Aurora hands, mentally and physically. Only when she felt they were thinking rationally and physically able to travel would she lift the travel ban. For the last month or two Hazel had set themselves up in a small town called Savona on the Trans Canadian Highway, waiting till only Aurora gave the all clear. Between her and Lily the two of them had done the majority of runs for supplies. In Richards state she didn't trust him and Aiden had wounds to heal.
Hazel parked a 1988 dodge campervan outside the temporary house, she had seen the van a few days ago and it was her view this was the best mode of transport to help with the trip north. What would take normally a day's travel could take longer depend depending on how many cars were abandoned in an attempt to escape when the walkers came, if stuck on the road she didn't want to sleep in the open and if done right they could rotate with the driving.Grabbing some cans of spam and bottles of water she had found on her supply run she made her way to the front door.
The sun was not long up and this gave Hazel a feeling that today was the day that they'd continue their journey. She knocked on the door,
” It's me, open up.”
