Male
Appearance:
Hideki is a Japanese male in his mid-twenties. He stands at 5'9'', unusual for an Asian male, but there isn't much to Hideki that appears usual for his culture. His hair is black and straight, pushing to about his shoulders. The beard on his chin is scruffy and black, a bit more coarse than the hair on his head. His eyes are narrow and mono-lidded, a dark brown. Perhaps it's the frown on his thin lips, or the sharpness of his cheekbones, but he seems intimidating upon first glance. It could also be due to the multitude of tattoos adorning his pale skin. Both of his arms are done in full sleeves, extending even to his fingers. His back is done, and the images extend onto his hips and upper chest. He usually wears a loose pair of jeans and boots, and a comfortable shirt.
Occupation (studies and job before the outbreak):
Before the outbreak, Hideki was a mechanic. On the side, he boxed for fun, though he did make occasional money at it.
Hometown (city, state, country):
Hideki was born in Kyoto, Japan. He moved to America when he was 15, and relocated to Bonneville, Washington State.
Relationships (relatives, friends,...):
Hideki was the second child and son to his parents. His older brother, Jun, was five years his elder. When he moved to America with his parents, Jun stayed behind in Japan. He had wanted to stay in Japan with his brother, and when he wasn't able to, he was very bitter towards his family as a whole for making him relocate to another country. His father's job as a mechanical engineer brought them to the States, and his already difficult relationship with his father became more strained by the move. His mother was kind and patient with his anger, and prompted him to try and make friends with people in the neighborhood. With only the English that he learned in school under his belt, Hideki was incredibly hesitant to make friends, though he did find one in Mitch, a neighborhood boy. Together, they would embark on a friendship that would span over a decade and an apocalypse, as if their own complications weren't enough to deal with.
Weapons (currently in possession):
A handgun
A rifle
A set of knives
A machete
Items (clothing, backpacks, first-aid kits, etc...):
A backpack filled with food and water
A blanket
Multiple changes of clothes
A lighter
Some gas
Spare car parts
A tool set
A basic first-aid kit
Mode of transportation:
Hideki is currently driving a Dodge Charger, though he'll hot wire anything that he can get his capable hands on.

Describe your character's life before the Apocalypse:
Hideki had a hard time growing up. Because of the nature of his father's job, he was forced to move to America when he barely spoke the language. A teenager and a bit of a rebel, he and his father butted heads on almost all fronts, and it was only the sweetness of his mother that kept them all together. He missed his brother in Japan, his life in Japan, and his mother urged him to make friends in the neighborhood. Angry and troubled, he didn't heed her advice, though he inevitably met a boy named Mitch. They became fast friends in a way that he had never expected them to, and it was his friendship with the boy that gave him confidence to learn and practice his English. Their friendship grew as the years went on, until they were the best friend that the other could have. Hideki pursued his dream of being a car mechanic because of Mitch's helpful encouragement, against his father's disapproval, and also took up boxing at his behest. They pushed each other to follow their desires and interests, though one always hung in the air between them. Hideki felt strongly for Mitch in a way that he never understood, and always chalked it up to the intensity of their friendship. But it bled into something much more than that, each of the pair becoming bothered when the other would date, though Hideki was much more volatile than Mitch was about it, and he also dated much less. There wasn't a single boyfriend that gained Hideki's approval, and while he felt angry over the situation, he always reassured himself that it was purely because of how much he cared about him. He never accepted that it could ever be anything more than that.
What happened to your character on Outbreak Day?:
An outbreak day, Hideki had been at the shop. He had been tuning up a car, and right as he was about to wrap it up and go for a sparring match in the evening, Mitch called him. Hideki had half-expected a frantic call about the rumors that had been going around, the news that was just barely breaking, but instead, it was about his boyfriend. He was upset and needed Hideki's attention on the matter, but was equally flustered for calling and hung up. Concerned, Hideki rushed from the shop and back to the apartment that they shared. Upon arrival, Mitch's boyfriend tried to keep him outside, but Hideki forced his way into the house and shoved the man aside. He found Mitch locked in the bathroom, and once he convinced him to open the door, the other man seemed embarrassed to have called him and made him worry. Hideki was more concerned with the swelling of his cheek, though Mitch denied that his boyfriend had ever put his hands on him and begged Hideki not to hurt him. Hideki was irritated and went out to pick a fight with the man regardless, Mitch at his heels, but there were bigger matters to attend to. Riots had broken out in the streets, and it wasn't safe for anyone to leave. Hideki had gotten home just in time, because a minute later and he would have been blocked off from the entrance. But now no one could leave, either. Hideki, Mitch, and Mitch's boyfriend spent a tense, angry night in the apartment together, and it ended with Hideki telling Mitch's boyfriend that if he ever caught him putting his hands on him, he would make sure he could never use those hands again.
Describe your character's life after the Apocalypse:
Once the world ended and everything turned on its side, keeping Mitch safe became his top priority. At first, Hideki traveled together with Mitch and his boyfriend. But the arrangement would prove to be tumultuous and taxing. Mitch's boyfriend would taunt Hideki any chance that he could get, all while trying to appear innocent to Mitch. His presence grated on Hideki, and the final straw came in the form of an incident that Hideki wasn't privy to until later. He had gone out to run for supplies, and when he came back, he found Mitch hiding out in another room in the apartment that they had been occupying. He kept his distance and didn't look at him, but when Hideki took a closer look and made him face him, he saw that his lip was swollen and had been busted open, and he had gashes on his cheeks. He begged Hideki not to fuss over him, not to do anything irrational, but it was too late. Claiming that the abuse wouldn't stand, Hideki stormed into the living room and confronted Mitch's boyfriend. They fought, and Hideki ended up killing him over it.
From there, they tried different groups on for size. They traveled from Washington to Oregon, bouncing from group to group. They rarely stayed in one spot, as Hideki always seemed to find a problem with every group they joined. He either noticed people who seemed like loose cannons, or spotted those who put people in danger on a regular basis. Any time that he felt that Mitch's safety had been compromised, he would force them to leave the group behind. They finally found one in southern Oregon, and Mitch made fast friends with the people. He asked Hideki to reconsider when he said that he was suspicious of them, and that he was tired of always being on the move. Knowing that he was exhausted, Hideki honored his wishes and agreed to stick around for the moment.
But that would prove to be a mistake. Unbeknownst to the duo, this group had gotten into a few scuffles with a rival group. They had taken their supplies in a recent encounter, and the rival group kidnapped Mitch for information, not realizing that he had only just joined and didn't have any. Mitch tried to tell them that he didn't know what they were talking about, but they didn't believe him and tortured him mercilessly. By the time that Hideki found him, he was brutally beaten, and he made everyone in the compound pay with their lives. With Mitch in bad shape, he killed everyone in the group that they had joined and took their supplies to give them their best chance. In his mind, this was their fault, and they deserved it.
With the supplies in the backseat and Mitch beside him, Hideki drove off to California to start a new life with him in San Francisco. Currently, he is nursing Mitch back to health in an abandoned apartment complex, hoping that the wounds on his back won't get infected. He needs antibiotics, and is getting anxious. With everything up in the air, he only knows two things for certain: he will do whatever it takes to ensure Mitch's survival, and he will never join a group again.
