Appearance:
Riley is a petite girl in her mid-twenties. She stands at 5'3'' and is compact, and sports a very pale complexion. Her eyes are green and her hair is short and a bit choppy, platinum blonde. Her gaze is usually hard-set, and her full lips are often pulled into a frown. She can be a bit intimidating despite her size, which is only accentuated by her clothing. Growing up in Washington State, she much prefers jeans and layered clothing, as well as jackets and hoodies, to anything else.
Occupation (studies and job before the outbreak):
Riley went to college and got a degree in English Literature. Unable to find a job straight out of school, she paid the bills with tutoring while she gathered enough outside credit hours to cross over into teaching. It took almost a year, but she finally got a job teaching English Literature in high school. She had barely started, however, when the outbreak occurred.
Hometown (city, state, country):
Tacoma, Washington
Relationships (relatives, friends,...):
Riley's relationship with her parents was strained. They had divorced when she was young, and she often felt more like an object passed back and forth between them than a daughter. Because she was at her boyfriend's house at the time of the outbreak, the fate of her parents is unknown. The only other person who means anything to her is Eric, her best friend from before everything began, and incidentally her boyfriend's younger brother.

Describe your character's life before the Apocalypse:
Growing up, Riley felt very lonely. Her parents had divorced at a young age, and she never really felt like she belonged anywhere. Both of her parents lived lives outside of each other, and outside of her, so she felt like an obligation more often than not. She buried herself in books and used the worlds within as an escape, and that helped her cope until she got into college. She was an English Literature major, but through electives, she met Eric Kingsman. They became fast friends, often paired off together for projects, and he was the first person who made her feel as if she wasn't totally transparent. She thought that he might have had feelings for her, and she thought she might have had feelings for him, too, but it ultimately never came to fruition. Two years into their friendship, she went over to his house to work on a project, which wasn't unusual. But this time, there was something different. Eric's older brother, Jason, was back from deployment. They got to talking, and he very quickly charmed her onto his arm. They two started dating before the apocalypse, and their relationship carried on through it.
What happened to your character on Outbreak Day?:
Riley had been at Jason's apartment. She had been between tutoring sessions and didn't want to spend the time wandering around town, so she stayed at his home to pass the time. She decided to try and work on some credit hours for a teaching certificate with him in the meantime, but the internet couldn't seem to hold a signal. It escalated into crashed networks and clogged phone lines within a matter of hours, and Riley didn't know what to make of it. But Jason, being military, was more privy to private information than she was, and he advised her to stay with him and stay indoors. Eric returned home unharmed, luckily, and together, the three hunkered down and tried to ride out the chaos.
Describe your character's life after the Apocalypse:
The trio traveled around for over two years together. Things were tense and difficult, but they had each other, and that was all that mattered. With Jason's leadership skills, they survived as a team until the day of an unfortunate storm. The Washington weather wasn't swayed by the outbreak, and the rains continued despite the circumstances. In an attempt to stave off the storm, Jason suggested that they stay in a nearby warehouse. At first, everything was fine, but then they got swarmed. Walkers pounded and slammed at the door, as if wanting protection from the rain, and they completely blocked the doors. There was a single window up high on the wall, and Riley couldn't reach. Eric helped her get up and out, and then followed her. Riley reached down and tried to grab a hold of Jason, but she was too small to reach. As walkers banged the door down, she begged Eric to do something, and he crouched in to try and save him. He tried to pull Jason up, but the walkers latched onto his legs and pulled him out of his grasp. Or at least that's what Riley was told. Sometimes if she isn't careful, her mind will tell her that Eric let him go on purpose, and she'll become bitter and angry. She likes to think that it's just the grief, but her mind wanders to that place more than she would like. With Jason's death fresh, only a month prior, Riley is touchy and jaded. Time will tell whether she comes around to trust Eric, with both her grief and her life.
