Describe your character's life before the Apocalypse: Born into one of Canada's political dynasties (her great-grandfather was former P.M. John Diefenbaker), Elise learned early on that having the name Diefenbaker carried a lot of weight on it, weight she bore easily. Growing up in southern Ontario, she was a decent student who, when not reading or studying, spent her time playing various sports and participating in medieval re-enactments as an SCA member. After high school, she was accepted to the University of Windsor, graduating with a degree with Medieval History. At the time of Outbreak Day, she was attending Windsor as a Graduate Student and working as an assistant to the Detroit Latter-Day Saints Temple Secretary across the river in Detroit.
What happened to your character on Outbreak Day?: Due to everything going on in Detroit in the months prior to Outbreak Day (which included the closing of both the Ambassador Bridge & Detroit-Windsor Tunnels), Elise was forced to switch jobs, working as a secretary in the Chaplain's Office at Windsor University when not engaged in graduate studies. Traveling into work on the 404, Elise nearly got stuck in the now-perpetual traffic jams near the university, which nearly cost her her life as she got swallowed up for several minutes by the panicking crowds running away from Windsor; while escaping herself, she was forced to fight off several people who'd been bitten and had turned. After having to hide out in an abandoned building for some time in the days and weeks afterward, Elise slowly made her way back to the university and got to the graduate apartments where she lived; after making sure everything was safe - or as safe as it could be, given the circumstances - she began organizing other survivors on the campus grounds, eventually building a small but stable group of survivors who - sometimes through guile, sometimes through force but mostly through hard work and perseverance - managed to keep together.
Describe your character's life after the Apocalypse: In the months and years since, Elise had become the leader of a small settlement across the Detroit River from Detroit, within eyesight of Belle Isle Park but, until very recently, without any way to communicate with the stronghold. With the increase in banditry throughout southern Ontario, however, Elise and her survivors are in the process of meeting with the Belle Isle stronghold; whether they can manage to keep their settlement and join forces with their American neighbors or try and continue going it alone, though...is another question indeed.
