Remy looked at the Captain and chuckled low. Lex had the same m.o. with her, but she was not about to discuss the flavor of that bitter ice cream. Her business was her own and this guy was a complete stranger to her.
"Yea, I get that. He makes that a habit."
She turned her eyes to a little brown rabbit that had hopped over to where she was standing, sniffing at her boot. She wondered if it was male or female and if it was going to be dinner tonight. She kicked at the wood gently and the rabbit was startled back, hopping away to the others.
"What's your name? Your real name. Not some fancypants pirate bullshit. If we're going to talk about that stuff, I want to know your name."

Luckily it seemed that she had reacted well enough now that he had told her that he was not traveling with Lex. She seemed completely unfazed by the revelation and Cap found himself wondering what it was that had happened between the two. It wasn't his place though and so he let it pass.
When it came to her second question he almost walked away. For some reason the question felt like the most intense thing he had been asked since he left his apartment. It took him a second but he finally looked up and cleared his throat.
"The names Sam."
After he said it he looked away from her. He needed a second to clear his mind so he took it. She wasn't looking at him anyways and so she might not have even noticed that he looked away. Or maybe she would. Either way it really didn't matter.

"Sam." She said his name to confirm it and as she looked to him she saw him shy away as if someone had just invisibly punched him in the gut. Why his name caused him so much pain, she couldn't fathom. This guy had issues and they all seemed to stem from what he knew.
"I'm Rebecca. People usually call me Remy." She pushed away from the pen now and decided to make herself useful. She saw a feed bucket that had been hanging from one of the posts and it didn't look like there was much dried corn and seeds left. Winter was lean and she understood that. It kind of made her hungry though. She picked up the bucket and moved towards the wandering chickens, spreading out a scant handful from the bucket.
"So tell me about this biological psychology. Is that the behavior of cells and microbes?"
Sam looked like he needed a change of subject and this would likely do the trick. If he could focus on the things he knew, perhaps his mind could come back to a steady state.

"Not exactly Remy, but that is a good guess. It has to do with how our neurons carry messages through our brain."
He wasn't sure what her field of study was and didn't want to seem like he was talking down to her so he went off of the assumption that she understood basic neuron function since most scientists who worked with either people or animals would know that.
"The interesting thing with the walkers is that whatever is doing this is completely rewiring different functions. From their actions we can assume that their prefrontal lobe, both assiciative, and primary no longer function. But since they are still able to move their frontal lobe must still be active. Obviously the fact that they can continue to function after beheading means that they no longer require blood flow to enable brain activity. The process is beyond my knowledge but it must be extensive. I know no other animal with a brain that doesn't require blood flow to function."

Remy almost railed him for saying 'good guess'. She didn't guess. She wasn't a guesser. She made her assumptions based on fact and she knew that psychology was the study of behaviors. It wasn't a guess. It was a fact. But she had already snapped at him enough and he probably wouldn't put up with much more from her. If she wanted allies, she had to act like it.
"Well, I'm no brain scientist. Anything anatomical would all go through Andrei. The doctor that came with us."
She looked at Sam again, hanging up the bucket and leaning against the fence.
"Me and him were going to try and study ..something..together. He's got all kinds of notes, but we haven't been still long enough to make any discoveries. The closest I've come was getting blood samples from a walker. We started the study in New Orleans, but were run out before we could get anywhere."
She looked up at the sky and covered pens as she thought about the possibility of discovery, but it still kept getting squashed by everyone around her. "I ain't got the technology I used to have either. It's a handicap. I need time but there ain't none to be had and no one really gets what needs to be done."
"They don't know what it's like out there. At least most of them don't add onto that the fact that they're trying to hold onto a set of morals that have no place in this new world. They don't get that everything has changed and that our focus can't be our own survival. It needs to be on the survival of the species. They have a chance here to be the start of humanity rebuilding. Those of us that see it need to find a way to show them."
He bent down and petted a chicken that had wandered close enough for him to reach it. The poor thing scurried away quickly and he let out a little chuckle. He realized in that moment that he had to stay here he had to see this thing out. If humanity was going to pick back up from the Apocalypse, well this damned camp was the best he had found to be able to facilitate that.

Remy looked at Sam oddly as he spoke about saving their species. She could agree with that, but she also felt that was a goal that was far too soon to reach. She had no idea how to come up with a cure, other then possibly producing an immunization, but that was usually left to chemists with big pharmaceuticals. She was just epidemiology.
"Look, no offense, but I can't agree with that. If we want to save ourselves we have to learn how to survive first. Rebuilding may not even come with our generation. Now, if you think you can contribute to what I'm going to study, that's fine, but I want Andrei to see and hear your theories. He's the doctor of our group and I trust that he knows what he's talking about."
She had a feeling the pirate and the doctor may get along just fine. They both had their quirks about them, but Andrei had proven himself time and time again. He knew how to fix a broken body. Hers included.
"These people, they don't know the process and I don't expect them to understand. They've all been through enough trauma that brought them here. As long as they leave me alone, I'll leave them alone."
The pirate simply nodded. He knew her type and knew that she wasn't going to be swayed by his words. She was much like him in that she needed to make a decision for herself. It wouldn't matter who else told her something until she decided that it was what she was going to do and he respected that. He wouldn't waste his breath trying to convince her.
"You have to decide for yourself what you'll do and I respect that. I've said my peace and that is all that I can do. I should probably get going now. The council is supposed to be meeting soon to decide our fates. I hope I'll get a chance to talk to you later with Andrei. For now keep yourself safe. This world needs every bright mind it can get."
With that the pirate turned and walked away. He had nothing more to say and it seemed to him that she didn't either. They had talked about what needed to be talked about and now it was up to her and the council. Who knew, maybe his madness would send him packing. In which case this whole conversation may come to nill.
