"Nothing that won't keep," Kate replied; indeed, she did have the slightest outline of a smile about her...which was rare to see given the medic's stoic attitude most days. "Good news, bad news, Sarah: good news, everyone from Windsor's safe and gone through medical," which brought a suppressed yes! from Elise, who was standing near Sarah, Chris and Ian and had had a concerned look on her face since arriving. "And the bad news, Kate?" Sarah asked.
"Five of them had gunshot injuries to them; four were graving wounds, one was a through-and-through in the lower right calf, but he'll be all right. Kinda' ticked me off, though; he kept muttering in some weird French accent--"
"That'd be Pierre," Elise said, adding, "He's Quebecois, a bit thick-headed--"
"Like someone I know," Sarah said, sliding an arm around Ian as they stood there....
"--but other than, he'll be okay. Kept asking for her, though," Kate finished, pointing towards Elise. "If you'll excuse me, everyone," Kate said, motioning for Elise to follow her over to Medical to check on her people.

Chris moved from the door add she saw her medical examiner, Kate, walking up with a smile on get fave. Seeing how she hardly knows Kate, get smiling want that out of the ordinary as she tilted her head aside a bit out of curiosity, and blinked when she heard there was good news and bad news, giving a thumbs up for the good news but nodded solemnly for the bad, as if knowing how that was. Once she was done, she walked up to Sarah again and looked up at her. " Is there anything I can do to help, Ms. Roland? "

Standing there, Sarah pondered Chris's question; for a few moments, Sarah saw a bit of herself inside of Chris and it reminded her of her responsibility to everyone on the island. "Check with Kate and see if she needs anything, then come up to my office and we'll talk. Its' up on the third floor; just take the stairs and its' on the far end of the hallway."

"Alors, comment tenez-vous?" Elisa asked her Quebecois friend; they were in one of the Medical exam rooms; she was standing next to the exam table while Pierre was sitting on it, having his lower right calf bandaged up and still muttering a few choice words in Quebecois French as he sat there.
"Je vais bien, Elise...autre que d'obtenir une balle dans la jambe, très bien," he replied, smiling briefly but every so often having to gut out the briefest bits of pain from it. This time, the smiles were also for the fact that they were conversing in French - his preferred language - rather than the almost ubiquitous English heard everywhere else.
"Bien, bien," Elise whispered, leaning down to give him a friendly hug, adding under her breath so that the medic wouldn't hear, "Je suis juste content que tu sois en vie, Pierre, d'accord?"
"Oui, oui," Pierre replied, smiling a bit more. "Maintenant, sors d'ici et laissez- moi me reposer un peu d'accord?"
"Bien sur," Elise replied in turn, smiling as she nodded to the medic. "Let me know if anything happens, okay?" she said before leaving the exam room and re-joining the others outside in the main part of the building's ground floor.

Chris nodded and turned to leave, but stopped when she refocused on what Sarah said, and turned her head back around to look at Sarah, her eyes curious on the elder woman before speaking. "Um..I forgot to ask, where is Kate's office?, she asked with her cheeks turning a light pink from being embarrassment.

After a moment's thought, Sarah pointed down towards the warren of exam rooms and infirmary beds which made up Belle Isle's medical area. "Kate keeps her office over in Medical; just look for the Red Cross symbol over the door and she should be there. Given what just happened over the past hour or so, she's probably checking on our visitors from Windsor. If she's not there, she might be out in one of the shelters, Chris," Sarah said, still wondering herself how the two dozen or so from across the river were doing.

Chris nodded, but she didn't leave just yet. Something seemed off regarding Sarah, like something was bothering her. With concern on her features, she walked up and lightly patted Sarah's arm, her green eyes speaking with a sort of wisdom far beyond her years, as if her maturity rose to down-to-Earth level with the uprising of the undead, her skills and potential with it. "Ms. Roland--Sarah...I know we just met and I'm probably the last person you'd ever wanna confide in, but just know I'm here for you. We all are. I want to help you, especially if that means occasionally being the shoulder to lean or cry on...not that I'd be a good choice in place of Ian, of course.", she said with her comment on the end being more of a tacked-on joke towards Sarah and Ian having feelings together, something even she could see; if anything, she was trying to cheer the beautiful elder woman up.

For a couple moments Sarah simply stared at the younger woman, partly awestruck by her words and partly awestruck by the wisdom contained within them; putting a comforting hand on Chris' shoulder as they stood there, she said, "Thank you...I mean that, thank you. Sometimes I forget that I'm only human...," pausing to wipe a tear from her eye.
Chris was right; there'd been times over the past three years where Sarah seemed to try and shoulder every responsibility, every duty, imaginable....under the best of circumstances, that could stress out anyone....nowadays, that could prove tragic for all. In a way, Chris was reminding her that it was okay to delegate things, to not try and shoulder everything in sight.
Looking around once more, she gave Chris another comforting pat on the shoulder and said, "Let's go check on Kate and the others and then we'll head upstairs and talk."

Chris nodded with a smile, proud of herself for getting Sarah to realize just how detrimental it was to take everything on by one's self, something drastically different from surviving out there all alone like she was. She didn't know what it was like to be a leader, or to own a community in such a way, so she couldn't help in that regard, but being there for Sarah should be a great help to her. And she wasn't even asking for anything in return, nothing more than just being allowed to live there and help. Chris lifted her arm up enough to gently rub Sarah's back and shoulder as she walked beside her, reinforcing the notion she really was there for her and they weren't just empty words, she only hoped her actions of comfort weren't stepping over any lines; she hoped Sarah didn't think her weird for such a thing. "Lead the way, then, Ms. Roland...Sarah."

As they walked over to Medical, Sarah had to fight the urge a few times to ask Chris if she'd ever been a massage therapist in a past life because whatever Chris was doing, it seemed to have a relieving effect on Sarah; entering the warren of exam rooms and infirmaries, Sarah looked around for Kate. Seeing her. she whistled over to her and asked, "Everyone from Windsor outside?"
Post by Christensen McCready-Bates on May 31, 2016 0:25:07 GMT -5
Chris didn't seem to get a vibe of disdain from Sarah towards her attention, and so continued to rub her back and shoulders, lightly doing so a bit harder to make it more of a massage since she could feel Sarah felt a bit rigid or stiff, looking around curiously throughout Medical until they found Kate, and smiled with a wave towards her.

"Yeah, everyone's resting outside in the shelters," Kate replied, still carrying the faintest hint of the smile she had from earlier, "but hopefully we'll be able to get them suitable quarters inside within a couple of days or so." Besides being Belle Isle's senior medic, Kate was also in charge of making sure there were suitable quarters inside the yacht club building and over the past few years, Kate had managed to turn parts of the building that one hadn't thought could be converted into living quarters into living quarters.
Noticing just much more relaxed Sarah appeared to be than was the norm for her, Kate couldn't help but get in a subtle dig at her. "Either Ian's not doing his job at night, Sarah, or you're still the most popular person around," she said with a stoic smile; looking over at Chris, she added, "I like to pick on Sarah every so often; it helps bring a bit of levity to an otherwise crazy world." After a moment's thought, she said, "Elise, the Windsor leader, was wondering if there was anything to eat; I told her I'd check with you before signing out for the evening," arms crossed over her chest and that stoic smile still about her face.

"I think there was panfish on the menu for tonight," Sarah replied, "panfish with greens and canned vegetables." It wasn't an idle boast either in regards to the food; if there was one thing everyone - Sarah included - had learned to do and do well, it was preserve and can pretty much every kind of food they could find; from canned vegetables and on down the line, there were several store rooms full of nothing but canned foods and it was a safe bet that things would've been a lot more different had they not figured that out early on. Of course, this didn't mean they let things sit around and gather dust; then again, with nearly a hundred people on the Island, nothing did gather dust.
Looking over at Chris, Sarah said, "The food's pretty good, Chris...granted, its' not the Four Seasons, but its' hearty and there's plenty to go around," feeling about as good as she had in a long time. "By the way, thanks for the massage, Chris; I don't think I've felt that good in a long time," smiling.

Chris chuckled lightly at the light jab of humor from Kate towards Sarah, and looked between the two as they spoke about food, something she could definitely get behind. She was hungry after all, but she could wait a bit longer, because she knew Sarah still wanted to talk to her, right? When Sarah turned her attention to her as did Kate when she spoke of her jive with humor, she smiled and spoke, "Food, I could get behind. I don't care if it's from the Four Seasons or even cooked outside, food is food as long as it's properly cooked and handled. Speaking of...any idea where I will be staying? Or may I stay with you, Kate?", she asked the senior medic softly, but also asked this of Sarah as well, though blushed lightly as she heard the praise from Sarah about her massaging skills, and added onto her question something quite...different. "I could do more if you liked, Sarah. Same for you, Kate; if Sarah liked just a one-handed massage from me, what do you think?"
Post by Kate McCready-Bates on May 31, 2016 17:25:29 GMT -5
It took Kate maybe a half-second to answer both questions. "I think I can take on a roommate," she said, nodding her head, "and a massage; if I can get half the effect of one that it appears to have given Sarah, I'll feel just chipper," she added, her stoic-looking smile now gone, replaced by the smile of a friend.

"Guess that settles it," Sarah said, pleasantly surprised at Kate's answer to the questions Chris had asked; after a moment, she added, "Let's check on our visitors from Windsor and then we'll go eat; that sound good?"

"That sounds awesome. And I have to say, I love my new roomate.", Chris said with genuine smile back to Kate, only to move to her side and gently start to caress her back and shoulders the same way she just was with Sarah, adding light pressure and kneading movements with her fingertips against the woman's covered skin while looking at Sarah, and nodded. "Lead the way, then? I'm interested in seeing the others, too."
