She didn't feel any sense of relief nor humor. It annoyed Jessie. It seemed as though some of the others did find some humor to it, though. Either way, her mind was made up; Travis was an asshole. And she didn't care if he knew it or was kidding or whatever his deal was. When Daniel spoke about loading up now, Jessie's brow furrowed.
Jessie had to get her bag. She looked to Steph and cleared her throat. "I gotta get my pack. I'll do that now I guess, while they are getting ready for draw. I'll be back in a flash," she said and quickly made her way to exit the armory. She really didn't wait for Steph to respond nor did she wait for anyone else to say anything. If the vehicles were already on their way, she had less time than she thought.
But it meant she was getting what she wanted. They were getting ready to go. The funny thing about getting what you wanted didn't always mean it was something you needed. Now she was anxious that there literally gearing up for the push. Her thoughts bounced back and forth between what just happened and the idea she was really getting ready to do this. She had to have her game face on because there was no other face that would suffice.
After she grabbed her pack she had made the previous day, she hustled back to the armory and paused. She was scared for sure, but again, she needed to get her game face on.

As he and the others worked to get ready to leave, Bam took Travis aside and said, "Youo know, that was a really dick thing to say about Tegan's team, alright?" Before Travis could reply, he continued. "No, seriously, that was a really dick thing to say, alright?" When Travis tried to reply, Bam added, "At least you got your wife with you; I got Itchy and Scratchy with me," walking away as if to say, Enough! so that he could continue preparing to go.

"Alright," Stephanie started to say when Jessie said she had to grab her gear but before she could, Jessie had already made her way to the door. Walking over to where she's stashed her gear earlier, Stephanie began going through everything, making sure nothing was out of place. Satisfied all was in order, she began going through both her shotgun and pistol, making sure both of them were ready and that there was plenty of rounds for each...as she did that, she kept glaring at Travis, who was blissfully getting ready himself. After a few moments, he caught sight of her and said rather derisively, "What, you gonna' chime in too?"
After considering whether or not to empty a verbal load of rock-salt at the man, Stephanie simply shook her head and said in a calm, South Bawlmer voice, "No, I just always wondered what an asshole looked like. Thanks for answering the question there, Travis." and without waiting for a reply, grabbed her gear and headed outside to wait for Jessie...and so that she wouldn't have to be in the same room with Travis either.
When Jessie had returned, she saw Steph outside of the armory. She walked up towards her and stopped when she was only a few feet from her and huffed. "Everyone still getting their gear ready? I guess maybe I should go get that rig we adjusted."
She frowned a little and her lips were pressed into a tight then line. Jessie attempted to maintain some semblance of calm. In all honesty, she kind of just wanted to sleep now but she figured that wasn't in the cards for them now. It was then she looked towards the armory door. "Probably should get my ammo too, huh?"
Her thoughts were a mess. Jessie knew she needed to pull herself together. Especially considering what that asshole said. Maybe he was right, having a group of new blood wasn't such a good idea.
Fuck him. Don't do this right now.
"I'll leave this out here with you," she said more to herself than to Steph before she dropped her pack near Stephanie and went inside. She went through what she would need as far as ammo went. She made no eye contact with anyone inside the room. Quickly grabbing the ammo and magazines required, she also snagged the tan rig that Steph helped her fit.
Without wasting another moment, she made her way towards the door before a hand grabbed her in the bend of her left arm. Turning to face the person that grabbed her, her expression softened when it was revealed that it was Dillon. The concern on his face was clear but she nodded. "I'm fine." When he didn't let go of her, and his brow furrowed a bit, she repeated again. "I'm fine. Just wanna stay out there," she added and with a small nod of his own, he let her go.
Upon stepping out, she moved towards her pack and set down her rig and ammo on top of her pack. It was then that she began to pull out the extra magazines and the rounds she had taken and loaded up said magazines for her Glock 17.

Sitting outside the Armory, her back to the wall, Stephanie went over everything - her gear, her shotgun rig, now loaded with about 2 dozen 12 gauge shells, and both weapons - once more before sitting back and trying to relax amidst all the hubbub both inside and outside...
When Jessie had returned, she saw Steph outside of the armory. She walked up towards her and stopped when she was only a few feet from her and huffed. "Everyone still getting their gear ready? I guess maybe I should go get that rig we adjusted."
"Yeah," she replied, smiling briefly, "I think most everyone's still inside right now...."
She frowned a little and her lips were pressed into a tight then line. Jessie attempted to maintain some semblance of calm. In all honesty, she kind of just wanted to sleep now but she figured that wasn't in the cards for them now. It was then she looked towards the armory door. "Probably should get my ammo too, huh?"
....adding in an almost laconic tone as Jessie headed back inside, "..haven't seen this much activity since I got into that fight with Laura Powell back in high school in South Bawlmer...." her voice trailing away as Jessie went back inside to grab her gear, weapons and everything else one would need for the trip over. As Stephanie continued to sit outside, she began whistling "Farmer in the Dell" to relieve the tension and get her mind off of what could happen and onto what was ahead of them...

As she stood outside waiting for the Tundras' to arrive in front of the Armory, Tegan was still mightily pissed at Travis for his 'rookies' comment, but as she looked at it, everyone has a job and if she didn't think the rookies - as Travis so inartfully put it - could do the jobs they were given, she wouldn't've assigned them to her team in the first place.
Looking around, she started to see the members of her team begin to assemble outside and whistled to get their attention, swirling her finger in the air in a 'hey, get over here' kind of manner; as she waited for the members of her team - Johnny, Dave, Stephanie, Jessie, Dillon and Roner - to come over, she thought about what words to say to them, using her time spent in Iraq as a Blackwater helicopter pilot to try and think of something, anything, to say. Heavy lie the burdens of leadership, she mused, adding, God, please don't let me lose anyone as we go forward...please.
Glancing towards Stephanie as she said it was the most activity since she had seen when she got into a fight with some other woman, Jessie shrugged and a moment later, Tegan was signaling for them. "It's about to get busier, I think." Jessie motioned with her head towards Tegan. Not wanting to keep her waiting, Jessie gathered up her pack, her rig and her weapon and made her way towards Tegan.
She didn't know what more to say or expect other than they were going to be moving out soon, no doubt. Jessie looked to Tegan as she folded her arms over her chest. She waited for the others to gather up too, but she never looked directly at Tegan. She looked a little past her, like she had done with Daniel.
"We leaving now?" she asked as she raised her brow. In truth, Jessie hoped it was the case. She was more than a little angry still at Travis and the idea was to use that anger for the initial push out. Maybe that would help give her some focus and direction.

"Yeah, as soon as the Tundras' arrive, we'll be headed out," Tegan said, answering Jessie's question; looking at the others she decided to say a few words to the assembled. "look, I know you all heard what was said inside earlier....put it out of your mind forever. We have a job to do and we're going to do that job; as I said in reply earlier inside, if I did not think that you guys could do the job you've been assigned, I wouldn't have picked you, period. Her words were as strong as silk-wrapped steel but they were also words of truth as well. She continued on with one more reminder of what their part of the plan at Yankee Stadium would be.
"Now, I know we're going to go in the main gate along with Bam and Travis's squads, but our job will be, once we're inside the main gate, to secure and lockdown the main entrance; once that is done, the only way in and out will be through the service entrances off to the side. Then, we're going to go through the front quarter of Yankee Stadium, link up with Pontius and his Suicide Climbers and continue on." Looking each member of her team square in the eye once more as the first of the Tundras' arrived, Tegan added, "Unless there's any questions, let's load up."
Watching as the vehicles began arriving - mostly Tudnras' but a few extended-cab vans as well with NYC Department of Corrections signage on them - Daniel took off his cowboy hat, rolled it and placed it in a belt loop on his waist. Lighting a hand-rolled cheroot, he watched as Tegan's Scouts began loading onto the first three Tundras'. Next in line would be the couple of dozen Scavengers' and Island Maintenance people Daniel was taking; their purpose - besides watching the Scouts' back as they went through Yankee Stadium - would be to determine whether the stadium's infrastructure was still capable of working; if it was, it would save them a hellacious number of convoys to-and-from Rikers' Island.
"Alright, boys and girls, let's load up," Daniel said to the assembled group around him; picking up his ruck from the ground, he crossed himself in the Catholic manner before climbing into one of the Tundras; loading his equipment into the space behind the seats, he keyed his shoulders mic. "Alright, team leaders, sound off when you're ready to go." clicking the radio off and waiting for the replies to come in. As he sat and waited, he continued smoking the cheroot and continuing to go over the plan, step by inexorable step.
Jessie looked to the ground and she remained silent, her arms still crossed. When the words 'load up' came from Tegan, Jessie looked to see who would start loading up in which vehicle. It was decided then that she would just take a seat in the back of one of the nearest vehicles she could climb into and opted for a Tundra. When she climbed inside, she took off her bag and rested it on her lap.
She remained silent, chewing on her lower lip as she sat in the truck. This was it. This was the moment that she had been dreading. It was the moment they were to roll out and take the fight to the stadium. She didn't have anything to say other than in her own head. She just wanted this to be over already and it's only just begun.
Looking out the window, she raised her brow watching everyone else begin to load up and work towards the same goal. That was Yankee fuckin' Stadium...

After Tegan's last-minute set of instructions, Stephanie climbed onboard the back of the Tundra, helping everyone else climb into the back (except for Roner, who would drive the Tundra). Sitting in the back, her back to the cab, Stephanie reached over and grabbed one of the vehicle's ubiquitous "oh crap!' bars; as the truck began moving forward, she held onto it and closed her eyes, hoping to tune out the world for a few minutes, figuring there'd be plenty of world to see at Yankee Stadium and wondering, she mused, whether it was as crappy a place inside as Camden Yards was back home...well, she thought to herself, we'll know soon enough.

As the convoy of vehicles began snaking its' way forward towards the front gate, Bam got out an old CD Walkman he'd gotten from another Island resident and plugged it into the radio dash console. Keying his mic, he said, "A little music while we make our way out of the Hive and head for Yankee Stadium, everyone?" turning the Walkman on. After a few moments' delay, the player began blasting out AC/DC's "Hells Bells" over the radio...and almost perfect song, Bam mused, for the journey they were about to make...
Hearing the heavy metal of AC/DC over the radio, Daniel was tempted to get on the horn and tell Bam to knock it off....but as they got up to the Main Gate, he took a long drag off his cheroot and picked up the radio mic; keying it, he said, "Nice music, Bam," cutting it off and turning the volume up in the Tundra. Lowering the radio, he sat back in the passenger seat and said to the driver, "Let's be about it."
