Vince hasn't said much since leaving the hive. There was nothing to say. Deep down, he felt guilty, guilty of what he forced Kevin to do. He forced him to leave his friends, his group, leave them for him. He knew Kevin would in a heart beat, given the ultimatum he would always choose Vince. So he felt guilty.
But the hive wasn't safe, New York wasn't safe. He didn't trust a place run by one leader, no again. It reminded him to much of the airforce base in Neveda, what had been done there. He wouldn't go through that, not again. Kevin couldn't go through that.
So as the walked through the deserted major streets of New York City he looked at Kevin. He didn't dare talk, alerting hoarde after hoarde on to them. With cars piled up, bridges cut off, and hoards on every corner, they were forced to back track more than once. But they were nearing the city limits, he knew it, more sings pointing away.
he gripped his bat and stopped, letting Kevin go ahead. "I'm sorry," he said letting Kevin stop, "I'm sorry." He looked at his lover's face. They were at the city limits by now, the sign behind them welcoming them to the county the city sat in. He paused. "Once we get to the country side, it will be safer. I don't know where we are going though. It took me months to even get here. I don't know which way to go, what to do. We have no plan, very little supplies. I...I...we're lost. I don't even know if this leads out of here. I just keep seeing city after city. I wish we had a map, or knew the streets."
