Sia sighed, laying her head back against the headrest of her traveling companion's beat-up old jeep grand cherokee. Okay, that wasn't fair. It really wasn't that beat-up, all things considered. He took really good care of it, it was just that the apocalypse was not kind on cars. Even here in the midwest, land of nowhere and nothing, they occasionally found cars abandoned by the side of the road. Of course, they always had to stop and check, to see if there were any supplies left, or any fuel in the tank. Devin's spare fuel canister had come in mighty handy lately. It felt like there were never really places to resupply out here.
There wasn't anything to do out here, either. Not that there was much fun to be had in the apocalypse anyway, but out here, it felt like there was nothing but endless brown. In an attempt to entertain herself, she went back to playing with the band of her thigh-high stockings. Ragged as they were, she still loved the way they looked. Besides, who got to decide what was practical in this day and age? The way she figured it, making an effort to look good was the most practical thing she could do.
That kept her occupied for all of a minute, and then she sighed and looked out the window again, shifting in her seat so she was facing away from Devin. "I mean, don't get me wrong, I know we sort of came out here for the whole middle of nowhere thing, but I was expecting something more than forty miles of cotton fields peppered with the occasional walker pigging out on a rotting cow carcass." She glanced back at him. "Weren't you?"
