The sound of the walker's head hitting the dry pavement after a forceful stab into its head caused a slight frown to form at the edges of Albert's mouth. He had probably done it a few hundred times over the past two years, though it never seemed to get any easier every time he killed one of them. As he began Slowly making his way through the parking lot of the abandoned gas station, he checked and, double checked over the few vehicles that had been left behind. By now though they were completely stripped of all parts that could be considered useful. The batteries had been stripped away. Belts, hoses and other important engine pieces were long gone.
After checking each car he didn't bother shutting the hoods, not wanting to draw any unwanted attention. Though he did fear the dead trying to eat him he was more worried of the living. The walkers were slow and predictable, easy to outrun. His fellow man however, couldn't be outmaneuvered as easily and posed more of a threat. After giving the parking lot one last final inspection and planning out a possible emergency escape route He cautiously made his way to the entrance of the gas station. Albert pressed his face to the glass door and, peered inside. A collective mess of rotting food and discarded wrappers littered the dusting floor.
Al pulled away and slowly pushed the glass door inwards. Unfortunately for him the hinges gave a long and drawn out creak as he hastily made his way inside. To his immediate right stood am abandoned counter that noticeably lacked a cash register. Albert began carefully making his way down a short aisle of shelves that were mostly bare apart from a few empty boxes. He crouched as he reached the center of the aisle and slowly lifted a brightly colored box. Most of its contents which were in this case granola bars spilled out onto the floor which in turn caused a hoarse moan to emanate through the store.
