Age:
- 25
Gender:
- Female
Appearance:
- Val keeps her hair in a tight pony-tail now. It isn't that long, but she couldn't bear to start trying do a buzzcut style of hair, it was hard enough to keep it at a good length as it was. She wears a thick wool overcoat during the winter months, which has seen its fair share of tears and cuts from both the living and dead. Her hands are thickly calloused from roughing it out in the woods. She's 5'8" and built slender but compact. The apocalypse diet didn't exactly do wonders for any curves, but she's got more muscle now than when it all started. She mostly just looks tired, with stress lines breaking their way into her face rapidly.
Occupation (studies and job before the outbreak):
- Repossession Professional.
Hometown (city, state, country):
- Baker City, Louisiana, USA
Relationships (relatives, friends,...):
- Rose Winters (Mother, deceased pre-outbreak)
- Gregory Winters (Father, deceased)
Weapons (currently in possession):
- Switchblade knife
Items (clothing, backpacks, first-aid kits, etc...):
- Wool overcoat, men's: Very warm, very worn. It's really, really hard to get that musty stench out of it now.
- Hiking backpack: Contents include a few spare clothing items, 2 boiled plastic bottles of water, a thermos filed with more water, 1 bag of potato chips, still sealed, and 3 cans of black beans.
- Wallet, containing $22.35, driver's license, debit/credit cards, and a grimy photo of a smiling woman and man.
- 1 nearly empty bottle of wine.
Mode of transportation:
- Footsteps.
List 3 or more good personality traits:
- Self-confident.
- Responsible.
- Rational.
List 3 or more bad personality traits:
- Selfish.
- Greedy.
- Envious.
List 3 strengths:
- Hard to scare: A career spent dealing with unpleasant people has hardened her against people trying to intimidate her.
- Determined Nature: What she wants, she won't stop to get. Good for if you really don't feel like laying down to die.
- Cautious: She always expects danger. It used to be angry people who didn't want her taking stuff they no longer owned, now it's walkers and people not wanting her to take stuff they actually do own.
List 3 flaws:
- "Recovering" alcoholic: It's hard to pass up a bottle of booze when it presents itself. At least the outbreak removed most of them from circulation.
- Depressing outlook: She's somewhat of a downer at all times. It tends to sap morale pretty quickly.
- Little trust left: She doesn't have much faith in anyone anymore, it's hard to get her to think you won't stab her.
Describe your character's life before the Apocalypse:
- Valarie didn't really know her mother much. She died of pneumonia pretty early in Val's life. She was left with just her father to take care of her. They didn't exactly live well, to say the least. Growing up poor can teach you a lot of things, mostly that it's really hard to hold onto your money since it always seems to disappear as soon as you get it. Her dad was a simple garbageman by day, taking oddjobs as a mechanic or plumber when he could. He wasn't exactly licensed, but he didn't charge very much.
Valarie learned to hold onto whatever she got a hold of. She tried desperately to never lose her money, which quickly translated into never letting go of anything. She was very close to her father when she was young, even though he was rarely around due to the amount of work he had to do.
When she left high school she got a job as a repossession "professional" since it was obvious she'd never have the cash to go to college. Really, her job was just to make sure whatever needed to get taken back got back in one piece. The people she was taking things back from were people in her kind of situation, but she couldn't afford to eat well, let alone care. She had to learn to be stern and tough. Backing down wasn't an option if she wanted to keep her job, after all. So she got good at what she did, repossessing objects to clear away debts. It was almost fun. When she wasn't drinking she was looking forward to lording the slim bit of power she held over others. It was a "living," if you could call it that. Then the dead started eating people.
What happened to your character on Outbreak Day?:
- Valarie had been drinking in a local bar when the news reports started to come in. For a few days before, it had been severely downplayed. Just a few cases of sickness here and there, the news said. Today it told a different story- this one about "rioters" attacking the police that were shooting them en masse. It wasn't really enough to stop her drinking, though. She kept right on doing it, eventually ending up in the bathroom despite the bartender cutting her off a while ago. Hours passed. When she woke up, it was her father rousing her. He was saying something about how they really needed to get going, but it was really hard to understand through the throbbing pain in her head. She unsteadily followed him back out to his truck, and from there her memories were a blur. There were flashes of red, flashes of people yelling and screaming. Mostly it was just memories of the radio being way too loud for her hangover.
Her next clear memories started up in her dad's home in the more rural area around the city. He basically had to explain everything to her since she had never paid much attention to the news. Her only answer was that at least now no one would come to repossess anything of theirs anymore.
Describe your character's life after the Apocalypse:
- Valarie now survives on her own, years later. She lost her father when they first joined up with a group of survivors. Turns out they weren't the brightest bulbs in the box, especially when it came to the whole 'don't start eating each other like it's the Donner party for your first winter.' She hadn't developed the required cannibal taste, so she had fled. Now she survives by avoiding joining groups whenever possible. That doesn't mean she's above stealing to survive. She's had to do what was necessary in order to ensure her survival. She's not really sure why she keeps going, one day just bleeds into the next. Maybe it's just the hope that the next bar she raids will have a few bottles left unsmashed and unopened.
