As both Tundras approached the main gate entering Rikers' Island, Daniel felt a combination of emotions flow through him - exhilaration at once again pulling off another successful supply run, tinged with the knowledge that, as the Hive's new Combat Overseer, this would be his last supply run of note. Keying his radio, he spoke into the mic. "Okay, everyone, good job on the supply run; as soon as we get through the main gate, everyone go through medical for your bite checks and all and then go ahead and knock off for the time being. Daniel, out."
Cricking his neck to work the assorted kinks out, he noted everything that went right with the supply run and everything that went wrong, going over all the assorted supplies that'd they brought back - a mix of urban farming supplies, canned goods, boxes of paperbacks for reading and other things that would help add to the Hive's supplies...all in all, a good day, he mused as the Tundras' pulled up to the main gate.
Looking back at one of the survivors they'd picked up, Daniel quickly explained what would happen once they passed the main gate. "Before I begin, welcome to Rikers' Island. Once we get cleared through the main gate, we'll head over to what was formerly the jail's Intake and Receiving Center; there, all of us - including me - will go through medical and bite checks before being allowed onto the Island itself; that's mandatory whenever anyone goes off-island like we did today.
"Once that's done, we'll see what the mess hall has out at the moment; given the time of day, they're probably setting up for the evening meal, so it should be pretty good. Granted, its' neither Carnegie or Katz's Deli but the food's decent and there's plenty to go around. After you and your friend have something to eat and drink, we'll talk about what's out there, where you've been, that sort of thing. Even though we know a good deal about most of the Rotten Apple by now, it never hurts to ask," Daniel finished, speaking in as honest a tone as possible, especially in regards to outside information on things going on around the former Five Boroughs following their recent battle with the Manhattan slavers, a battle that at times Daniel suspected wasn't entirely over with yet.
