She knew the young couple that had bought the farmhouse after the elderly couple that spent their life on the farm died. They weren't much into farming, but they bought it as a summer house away from the northern grips of snowy Cincinnati. They were an odd couple, at least by Bayou standards. They had money and seemed more upper class then a lot of people that grew up here. They invested money in property and started building while their kids went off to college. They pumped money into the economy and helped build up some areas. Even though they were respected, people still kept their distance.
She met them when they came to get a car for their youngest son to take up north. Even though the scrap yard was a junk yard, there were still cars to be rebuilt and sold and she helped them pick out a nice little Chevy that had been part of a drug sting by the police. It was brought to the yard and sold, partially for profit, partially for donation back to the police.
It was kind of a shame really. They had only been in the area a few years when everything went down. They were starting to garner a reputation and people that were normally closed off to outsiders were coming around to them. But the couple had no idea of the cache of weapons that was kept on the property. But she did. Some years ago Arden was getting into his usual trouble when he burglarized the property and found all the guns. He brought a group of friends, including her, out to the property late one winter night where he stole one of the guns. Hell, the old man never even knew it was gone he had so many.
But now, they were needed and she had brought the entire load inside the house, up to the attic where she could hole up. She watched as the bikers came in and drove Arden and Ellie off, but before she could get to them, they were gone. She worried the bikers were sprawl out. She worried they would come to the farm house, kill her and take the weapons. She wished she could go out during the day to fix her broken truck to get away, but for now, and for the past few months, she had been stuck surviving inside.
