Describe your character's life before the Apocalypse: Growing up in the southern fringes of the Alaska Interior, Ben enjoyed all the experiences life had to offer but he also knew he wanted to see the world at some point in his life...which is precisely what he did. After a near-6 year stint in Marines (leaving w/an honorable discharge & the rank of Sergeant), he moved to Southern California, having applied to several local law enforcement agencies. After being accepted by the LAPD, he decided to join, opting to stay in Southern California rather than return to Alaska. In his time with the department, he eventually became a detective and was working cases with the LAPD's South Bureau at the time of Outbreak Day.
What happened to your character on Outbreak Day?: When Outbreak Day arrived, he'd been pulling 12-hour shifts and was on his way to pick up his wife, Kelsey, a nursing supervisor at MLK-Drew Regional when, for lack of a better description, all holy hell broke loose on the streets of the City of Angels. After several close scrapes, he managed to reach his wife and they traveled back to what had become a second home for Ben, the offices of the LAPD's 77th Street Division, which had been turned into an urban fortress by that day.
Describe your character's life after the Apocalypse: Over the months following Outbreak Day, Ben, with his wife alongside, kept a low profile as they, along with several dozen survivors - a smattering of California National Guardsmen, LAPD officers and assorted civilians from around the area - began dealing with things around them the only way they knew how: by clearing out areas around the Division, bit by bit. As 2016 rolled around, they'd cleared a small area around the Division and were now in the process of deciding whether to expand or simply remain where they were...
