Max drove back, Abby beside him, Brian in the back. Both held one of his kids, holding their sleeping bodies as he drove. The car was filled with whatever they could carry, supplies for the baby, medicine, and hospital bedding. As was the car Dean and Amber drove behind them. Max kept his foot down, but drove a steady speed.
Coming through the gates he stopped. He noticed they were off their hinges, flung open, barely hanging on. It looked as if something had rammed through them, large tire tracks covering the ground. It was chaos, or had been. Putting the SUV in park he turned it off and got out. Moving around to the side he opened the door for Abby to get out.
No one was in panick, no one framing out. The guards returned to their posts, Jack and Thadd both digging, digging what looked like graves. He took note of the bandanas around their face, no doubt to mask the smell. Something had happened, something terrible. People were dead. But the lack of panick had him at ease, at least it was done with.
Max took Hope from Brian, held her. "We need people to help unload the truck. See if you can find Matt, or Paul to help you," Max said speaking to Amber as she joined him. "I want to speak to Sarah, see what the hell happened here." He moved toward Abby. "Dean, can you get Brian and her inside. See to I they get any thing they need. I don't know where she'll need to go."
He looked down at Hope in his arms, offering a quick smile at her little face. "I need to find out what happened here." Max went off inside, still holding Hope in his arms. He came into the kitchen, where he saw Louis and Kira going over a list. "Where's Sarah," he asked. Once given a location Max set off to find her, hoping she was still there.
Down in the cellar, going over supplies he came up behind her. "Sarah," he said calmly, "can you explain what's going on here. Why are the gates smashed? Who is Thadd and Paul burying?" He ran a finger across Hope's cheeks as he spoke, "What the hell happened here. We were gone only a few days."
