As Sallie and David slipped out of the bunker in hopes of aiding Emmett, they run right into a group of mutants who feast on them almost instantly. Sallie falling to the ground as they rip her stomach open and feast on her insides, and David, dropping his gun while fighting off one of them before finally giving in allowing the mutant to bite his neck open, spraying blood towards the bunker door. Zeb quickly slams it shut out of panic as he only got a sky view of what transpired besides the noises and obvious blood splattered on the inside of the bunker door. He immediately runs to a cabinet before pulling out a rag and some disinfectant before rubbing down the door. Everybody he knew was dead. Everyone had gone out looking for Charlie, and every single one of them had died. He's all alone. No food. No company. Nothing but the one thing he's succeeded with in his entire life. His bunker. Thinking about what transpired, he backs up to the wall before dropping the cleaning tools and sliding down to a seated position with his knees propped up he shoves his face into his hands before sliding them off of his face, trying to gather himself for a moment.
"Fuck..................FUCK FUCK FUUUUUUUUUUUCK!" With that he breaks out into a small fury of tears leaking out of his eyes before biting his lip. As far as he's concerned, all hope is lost. He's the last human being alive.
Emmett had run as the biters spotted her, firing off shots as much as she could. She wasn't the greatest shot from this position and every time she lodged a bullet in one, they just kept coming at her. Why the hell weren't they dying? She ran around a corner and thought about holing up in a building until she saw what happened to Sallie and David. They were torn to shreds. Her body trembled and she broke into a cold sweat wondering what the hell had gone wrong up here.
She remembered David and Sallie getting her into the underground bunker when the news first started to spread. They had been watching national news talking about a pandemic that was spreading quickly out west and in the south. It was that first sign that needed little prompting for her to get to a safe place and that's where they had been ever since.
The biters that had been all over Charlie cleared out to feast on the pair, giving her an opportunity to go through the back of the building and make her way to get the blood soaked radio. She clamoured back inside and made her way into a closet.
He protected the idea that he could be useful when the world gone to shit. His only accomplishment he could ever flaunt is now empty with nothing but a broken man sitting on the cold hard floor. Zeb had an idea years ago. An idea that involved his family. He wanted to protect them. Not only that, but he wanted to mean something. He let it take over his life. This shelter. It took his family away. God knows where his son and ex wife is now. They could of died long ago when all they had to do was stay with Zeb. He could protect them.
These people, Emmett, David, Sallie, and Charlie. They represented his family. He felt like their protector. But he had one flaw in his plan and allowed that to crumble everything he's worked for. Those long nights molding this place into the perfect safe zone. They mean nothing if he can only protect his own sorry ass with it. Now he sits there, thinking of what went wrong while the world around him, almost mocks him. That is until the static breaks through the walkie in the corner and Emmett's voice comes through.
He immediatly darts towards it, grabbing it with all his might before saying, "Yes! Yes Emmett! Emmett i'm here! Are you ok???"
Emmett heard a voice back and she sighed in a bit of relief. She had to get Zeb out of there. Whatever was above ground seemed to permeate their town and they either had to go now or die in that hole. She didn't want to die in the hole. She spoke in a whispered voice so the creepers outside wouldn't hear her.
"Zeb, Zeb, I'm here. I need your help. Everyone is dead. We have to get out of here. I can't get back to you."
She looked back towards the door where the creepers were still feasting on Charlie and the others. At least they died as a family instead of having to suffer this horror. Quietly, she clicked the radio again.
"Pack up as much as you can carry and when you're ready to come out, get me on the radio. These ..people...they don't...they don't die. They come back from the dead. I'll cover you and we can run. Copy?"
She waited for him to respond and when he was ready to come out, she would have her gun ready. The only thing she could do was start blasting so they could run. Where they would go, she had no idea, but she saw some keys hanging up near a wall phone. She grabbed keys and looked up quickly, over the counter, and through a window where a car was parked in the driveway. Being as quiet as a church mouse, she slipped out the side door, leaving it open as she used the key and got into the driver's side. The radio in her hand was shaking as she slid down into the seat and slipped the key in. This was going to be their only way out.
She's in trouble. The others were dead like he had thought but Emmett had somehow found safety for a brief moment but needs his help. He looks around the room. His creation. The one thing that kept him alive for 2 and a half years. He's supposed to just up and leave. Maybe the two can find supplies and bring them back. That idea sticks in the back of his mind as he grabs a duffle bag and begins to pour Emmett's ammo stash into the bottom of it. Followed by food and water.
With a packed bag he hooks the walkie talkie to his pocket before going to his own room and opening the closet where behold was a weapon of his own that he's kept locked up for so long. A fire axe in mint condition. He had brought with him just in case the day he locked those doors. Never thought he had to use it but with the situation he's in, it's his best bet to stay alive. With the axe and bag in hand, he goes to the exit tunnel before reaching the end and prying the door to the outside world open, sending in a beaming light nearly blinding him as he climbs out, sticking his head out first to take a look around.
From his backyard he can clearly see the awful scene of mutants devouring upon David and Sallie. For a moment, he hesitates. Almost backing out he snaps into it and remembers that Emmett's life can still be saved. He climbs out and scoffs at the awful aroma in the air. He didn't know where she was. But hearing her whisper over the radio was a sign that it probably wasn't a good sign to page her back since she may be in hiding. He tries to sneak past the three mutants feasting upon the couple but as he takes a step, the cellar door behind him slams shut. Bringing their attention to ole Zeb who stands motionless. Scared out of his mind. These things look at him with fresh blood dripping from their mouths. One of them even have a gunshot wound to the face. Zeb now knows what Emmett meant about how these things don't die. And with no hope of getting back to the bunker, Zeb did the only thing he could. He ran like hell. Running around to the front he meets up with another Mutant coming from his garage. He jumped back and ran across the street, past the mutants eating Charlie and around the house to a started vehicle. Hesitant at first, he then can see Emmett ducking her head. Smiling before realizing he's still being followed he runs to the passenger side and jumps in. "DRIVE DRIVE DRIVE"
Out of nowhere, Zeb showed up at the car, jumping in and yelling at her to drive. She didn't know he was going to be racing across the street like that, risking his life. As she hit the gas, she ran over two of the biters, yelling at him.
"I told you to radio me! You put yourself at risk and you put me at risk!" The car skidded out as she peeled out, leaving the dead behind. They were also leaving supplies behind that could have kept them for a little while longer at least. But then what? They would have had to come up here anyways.
"God dammit Zeb. You don't think. You just act. It was fine for life before all went to shit, but now, you're going to get us both killed if you don't start listening to me." The gas tank was full, thankfully. The people who owned it were probably preparing for the worst and a full tank of gas would get them a long way. She started to head north when she saw a street full of the people..the dead...coming straight at them. Slamming the breaks, she turned hard, knocking the back end into a telephone pole, which easily came down and put a nice dent in the back bumper. Now she was due east, headed right for New York.
