When they pulled up at the mall (not strip a mall but actual mall) Thad stepped out. There were only two entrances to the building excluding shipping entrances. Tha looked at the doors, two big tour busses blocked the entrance, creating a barrier. One cpild easily climb through a small gap between them if you ducked down.
Thad tightened the straps if his vest and stepped out of the car. His rifel swung in his hand, the clip fully loaded. Dead cars surrounded them rusted metal of rides long forgotten. A chain link fence surrounded parts of the mall, military tents inside them. This was a safe zone, military protected. The people were long gone, only the remains of what used to be.
Thad stepped forward. "They came for the mall. Inside were a few food places, security had guns. The fenced in areas had medic supplies, or should. They were to grab anything they could. Last time they drove by a horde was present. We saw them migrating last night, so knew the area should have been cleared except for stragglers. I don't hear any Sinners so they must have left or got them."
He walked toward the busses and ducked between the crack. His massive frame squeezed through and he waited for Bethany to follow before steppng through the broken glass of the mall entrance. "We should get going. Stay low, gun out. I'm not expecting any major trouble, but something has to be holding them up."
Bethany drove slowly around the mall until they reached the buses that were blocking the entrance. At one point, it looked like this place may have been secured but they either ran out of supplies inside or were completely overrun. She didn't like the look or feel of all this.
"Grab anything we can? I don't think there's going to be anything left, Thad. Just goes to show you even the most secure place can be taken down."
She parked and got out, making sure her clip was fully loaded before following him between the buses. She was able to slip through easily and she tilted her head as she heard him speak.
"Sinners? Is that what you call walkers?" She was curious to know why he called them sinners. To hear that meant only one thing and she was fairly certain those that had turned were not the sort of people that wanted to turn. No one wanted to turn, but was it a sin to become one? She wanted to hear his philosophy on that.
Post by Thaddeus Walker on Sept 21, 2015 20:16:28 GMT -5
That turned to her, stopping at the doors. "I don't think the dead are sinners or anything, it's just a name. A medic came to Fort Bragg later in to the outbreak. He called them that, don't think he considers them Sinners either. Apparently a group he was with before us called them that. It's a catchy name, just stuck. You'll have to ask him more about it when we meet back up. It's just a name though, no different than Walker, Rotters, or Biters."
Just than a shot wrang out. It pierced the air and echoed across the mall. Just a single shot, but could be heard clear as day. Not enough to draw a walker, but enough to make them turn and look.
Thad looked at Bethany, "let's go," he said readying his gun, "stay low."
He went to a crouch and moved forward, pressing his frame up agaisnt the wall. Rushing forward he ducked behind what once had been a sunglass kiosk and tried to stay low to see what was going on.
There were stairs just before him. They could risk it and move forward, exposing themselves for a brief second to get to higher ground. Or they could remain where they were, hoping to see something.
Cory sat on his knees, hands tied behind his back. A cloth was in his mouth, tied around the back of his head. He couldn't talk couldn't move. Darius was beside him, Dane on the other side.
Three men stood before him, all with fully automatic guns. Three more above on the upper level. They had then at gunpoint, weren't leving until they found some information and took everything they had.
"Okay, one more time where are your friends. We saw more than one vehicle the last time you were here," one of the men barked. He grabbed Darius's bandana from his mouth, pulling it down.
"I can't tell you anything. I don't know what you're talking about," Darius said.
"I've had enough of this," one of the other armed men said. He pressed his gun agaisnt Dane's head and squeeze the trigger. A shot wrang out and he fell back, blood pooling around him.
"Let's try that again, where's your friends now. The kid get's the next shot," the original guy said as his friend aimed the gun right at Cory.
Bethany ducked down when she heard the shot and went low with her gun in both hands. She already knew how to handle this when it came to stray shots being fired. She was trained for situations like this. She followed him as he ducked behind a kiosk. She took to a neighboring kiosk that sold jewelry, but her interest was no longer in those things.
She heard no shatter of class or ringing of a bullet against anything metal and she wondered who was shooting. Speaking in a whisper, she kept her eye on the elevator turned stairs.
"Thad, are those your people?" She really knew nothing about who was in here and she hoped he had some sort of inkling as to what they were firing at. Perhaps it was a 'sinner' as he liked to call them.

"Not my people. Shot was from to large of a weapon. The carry pistols to move faster. What ever the shot was from, it hit something. I don't hear any did," Thad kept as low as he could, his massive frame hard to hide.
"I didn't see their vehicle. It's possible they entered another entrance though. Let's not rule them our being here," he whispered as he moved forward along the side.
Infront of them was the central food court, but he couldn't make anything out. "We need to get higher to see what's going on. With the escalator to exposed we should find another way."
He saw an elevator beside them, the doors partially open but long since stuck. There was also an access stairs off to the right, leading to the upper level through a janitors hallway. They would need to run to it, but would only be exposed for a few seconds. It was a big risk but there was no way of knowing if they could get up the elevator from inside.
"We need to pick something. What do you think we should choose?" He would have rather stayed safe, see if they could climb up the elevator. It was only two stories after all, not that big of a fall.
"There's probably a hundred entrances to this mall through all the stores and offices." She looked back towards the entrance where they came in hoping they didn't already expose themselves to who was upstairs. She also hoped the sounds of gunshots wasn't going to attract any unnecessary intruders that seemed to make negotiations difficult.
When the choices were given between a stuck elevator or stairs, she would always take the stairs.
"We take the stairs. Easier to get in, get out." It wasn't that far to get to them and if they could hustle across the tiles, they could make it easily. She decided to just take the initiative and start moving towards it without giving him an alternative. She scrambled quickly towards the janitor hallway, quietly and quickly opening the door. With a click as the tumbler was pulled down, the sound echoed across the empty mall, but she hoped it was quiet enough not to attract too much attention.
She spoke in a whisper as they got into the open hallway. "You lead the way. I'll cover your back."

Thaddeus saw her move and quickly followed. He held his gun tighter and rushed after her. He stood next to her as she opened the door and quickly went in. Closing the door behind him he looked at her. "Got it, I'll lead," he said with a nod. He quickly went to a half crouch, half stadning stance and moved forward.
He went up the stairs and opened the door. It lead to the upper shops and out into the open. A man was before them, standing in over the rail with a hunting rifel. One man was across from him and another stationed at a different spot. Thad moved forward, not giving the guy any time to react. His hand went over the snipers mouth, and his other arm around his neck. Thad yanked him to the ground. He pressed his knee into the guys throat and didn't let up till he stopped moving.
He didn't kill him, but he wouldn't be moving for a while. He looked down the railing and saw three other men with assault rifles, aiming then at Cory, Darius and a dead Dane. "Look at this," he said pointing down there, "we need to rescue them. If we clear out the top floor we should be able to clear the main floor. We need to move quickly."
He took the knife from his boot and jabbed it into the man he just knocked out neck. He ripped it out and stuck the knife back in his holster. "Let's move."
He walked further along towards the next guy, thankful the men were focused on the their allies interrogating Cory and Darius.
Thad took out the first guy that was at the top railing easily enough and she could see the other men down below. She recognized Cory as the one that pointed at gun at her through the windshield of her car. She couldn't blame him for keeping his group safe though and since he seemed to be with Thad, she would help in this rescue. Thankfully they were shielded by the protective railing and barrier and she slumped down as he spoke about taking out the others. Thad started to shift his weight to leave when she grabbed him by the arm and pulled him back.
"Thad, wait." She looked between the little openings of the barrier to see the two men with rifles pointed down. She wasn't sure how many men were downstairs with rifles pointed but she thought if they took the guns from the ones upstairs, they could stay up there, safely, and take down the ones downstairs all at once.
"We should take out these two up here, take their guns and stay safe. We can sniper the guys downstairs. How many did you count down there?"
Post by Thaddeus Walker on Sept 28, 2015 4:36:51 GMT -5
"That was my plan," Thad said looking at her. "Clear out the top floor, then the bottom. I'll use my Assualt rifel to clear the bottom. I can shoot and spray easier. Faster, they can't get away." He looked around. "I counted three. All right in front. I'm confident I can take out two of them if you can get the last one. If not I'll try my best to take out all three."
He waited for her to reply before moving along the railing. It covered him enough. He looked at one of the other man above and Attacked. Thad jabbed his knife into the man's neck and watched him stumble back. Thad ripped it out, cutting along the neck. The man fell to his knees and then collapsed on his face. Thad moved forward again knife out.
As he came upon the second guy the guard turned to look at him. Thad charged forward. He threw his shoulder to the man's stomach and sent him to the ground. The gun was knocked out and Thad jabbed the Knife in the man's stomach until he stopped moving and slowly ripped it out. He looked at Bethany.
"Okay, we need to act now. You take one side, and I'll the other. Wait for me to shoot then follow. Your target is the far right man. I'll take the left and who ever drops theirs first takes the last. We stay focussed on the floor until we are sure the place is enemy free."
Bethany watched as Thad went forward, taking out both men up top. He as a pretty big guy as it were and it didn't seem like he had any issues with either men. One of the guns went flying across the once clean and smooth marble floors. She made a dive for it and grabbed the free gun before kneeling down and taking her place at the top. Surely the ruckus would attract attention down below and they had no time to think about their positions. All she could do was aim and shoot. She stayed as quiet as he took his position and she moved to hers. She waited for what seemed to be an eternity even though it was mere seconds from when he dropped the men on the top floor.
She heard his first shot, a pop from the gun as she tried to get familiar with the gun. Her eye was trained on that third man and just as quickly she fired off two shots. The first one hit his neck, the second hit him by the jaw. The man was down in front of the hostages and her heart was racing from the adrenaline that rushed through her veins. She didn't like killing the living but she knew it was a necessary evil to survive in this new world.

Thad heard the shots and went down, pushing himself up against the rails. He saw Bethany fire, taking little time or shots to take down her target. He came up quickly and fired fast. The auto burst erupte tearing through the closest guy. It tore into his targets cheek and neck, dropping the man like a sack of potatoes.
The other target ducked behind the nearest cover. He stayed down. Thad fired above the man's head but couldn't hit him. "I only see one left, he's in the cell kiosk, I can't hut him from here," he yelled to Bethany.
From a store two more men stormed. One wore body armour, and a large helmet, the other dressed like the other men. The normal one fired up at Thad and Bethany, trying to force them to duck down. The other had a shotgun and fired at both Cory and Darius as they were fleeing. The shot scattered and tore into the Darius's back in legs, dropping the sniper.
Thad saw Cory rush into cover and get down safe.
He moved around the rail to change his spot, and try and get behind the other attackers.
Things had gone south really fast. Shots were being fired back and forth now as she tried to drop the one Thad missed. He may be good in hand to hand, but his firing had something left to be desired. The hostages scattered, but one was taken down. She had gotten up to go after the one in the cellphone kiosk when two more came out with shot guns. It sent her and Thad scattering for more cover as this thin railing wouldn't do shit to help them.
"Dammit Thad! How many are there?"
She didn't care if they heard her or not now, as the gunfire was a dead giveaway that they were here to take back the hostages. She had a good mind to put up her hands and start a negotiation, but it was far too late for that.

Thad looked back at her as bullets flew up to where he was. "I only saw two others. So that makes three. The shotgun doesnt have far enough range so we are safe from it up here. The other two we can take out." He held his gun tighter. He was never the best shot, but he could manage. He did better at close range and with explosives.
"We can't leave them. Cory is still down there and Darius might still be alive. If we can save them we have to," he said looking towards the stairs. With the men focussed they could just leave, leave the two and get back to safety. But he didn't want that. Still he didn't want Bethant killed because of him.
"Usually I would not let that happen, but you are right. Let's go. The stairs are clear." He started to leave. Cory would most likely die if they didn't help him, he hoped she could live with the blood on her hands. "Let's move before they find us. Back out the way we came. Cory may provide the distraction we need to slip away. He was a good kid, loyal, a fighter. They all were."
He gripped his gun tighter, could feel his blood pumping. He wanted to fight, never had he left a man behind. Leave one of his own. Darius was like a brother to him, now he was dead. He couldn't let the same happen to Cory. "You lead, I'll cover your six."
"No, wait." She thought after he spoke about leaving his men behind. She knew that was not the way she was taught. She wasn't military, but it was the same mentality in the FBI. No one gets left behind and she couldn't do that to him. This wasn't her call, she wasn't in charge and she offered to help him with this mission. Little did she know that there was an ambush taking place.
"Wait. I'll distract them so you can get your guys out. You're better at close range. I'll get them away from Cory and Darius." Whichever one was which. At the stairs, she stopped and motioned for him to go. "Get to the first floor and wait. I'm going to give them a target to shoot at. And don't worry, I'm fast. Like a gnat."
She grinned as she said that, pushing him a bit in case he protested. They would take their places and she would become that distraction to get the men to chase her. If she was lucky, they would see her as more then just someone to shoot and kill. She hoped they would see her as a woman they could keep alive and do awful things to. She hoped to lure them away with those thoughts. She went back to the kiosks upstairs and towards the railing as she held the gun up and yelled.
"Hey! Up here! You want me? You'll have to come and get me assholes!"
Post by Thaddeus Walker on Oct 2, 2015 15:17:03 GMT -5
"I can't have you risk your life like that," Thad said to her, "but if you can stay safe and think your fast enpigh we can do it. Don't endanger yourself if you don't have to. Keep safe, I can't have you dieing."
He quickly turned and went down the stairs. Once at the bottom he pushed up next to a kiosk. He waited until Bethany popped up and yelled at them. The guys fired, aiming at her and Thad striked. He aimed his gun and pulled the trigger. His gun tore apart one of the men, in the chest dropping him. He then quickly aimed at another and fired again, a head shot.
With one guy left, the armoured shotgun raider. The shotgun blast fired just above him. He ducked down as low as he could as the guy stepped closer. Thad rolls to the side and fired low. His shots tore into the man's legs, spilling out blood. Thad fired until his clip was gone. The guy fell his legs riddled with bullets and blood leaking out. He was screaming, and Thad quickly pulled his pistol popping him in the head.
Bullets were flying her way as she swiftly tried to make her way across the landing to distract the two below. She was doing everything she could to not be struck by a bullet, considering the two men below were already injured, but that didn't quite happen. Thad was below doing what he could to take out the men below as she was struck by a bullet. It ripped through her forearm and she went down to the floor, rolling and scrambling to find shelter behind a bench so she could nurse the wound.
When the last bullet went through the head of the bad guy, all went quiet. She closed her eyes and held pressure on her left arm with the right, leaving the gun on the floor and staying put as she called out.
"Thad, I've been hit!" She looked down at her arm and saw the blood running with the small splatter on the marble floor where she was hit. The bullet went through and through.
"I'm okay though. Nothing vital!"
She worried about getting the hostages back in her car and getting them to where they could get treatment. She worried about getting herself treatment also. All she needed was a little antiseptic and some thick bandages though. At least the wound was already cauterized from the hot, piercing bullet.

Thad heard the words and looked at Cory, "you see to Darius. I'll get her," he said turning around an running back up the stairs. He came to her side and dropped to a knee.
"Let's see the wound," he said calmly. She would ultimately know if it was serious or not, and she said she was okay. He wasn't a medic, he couldn't fix the wound not here. He could take precaution and tie a turnicat but that was it. Taking his bandana out his vest he moves it to her arm.
"I'm going to tie this, above the wound try and stop the bleeding. We don't have bandages here, but back at the church we do." He wrapped it around her arm, above the bullet wound and tied it off. "If we can make it to the farm quick enough there's a medic. This would be a simple fix then.
He stood up after tieing it. "I don't know much about first aid. You probably know more than I do." He looked down at her, "is there anything else I can do out here? We don't have time to search for first aid kits or anything like that. Shirt as a bandage or something?"
Bethany held her arm as Thad came upstairs to help her. Once the sounds of the firefight had died down, she felt comfortable enough to get up and meet him half way. He was already pulling out a makeshift tourniquet which she appreciated.
"I think it's more of a graze." When she pulled her arm away the deep burn mark and blood showed just what she suspected. "Hurts like hell though."
She took the bandana and unfurled it to tightly wrap around the wound. She gave Thad a bright smile as she looked down to both men below. She knew they had to get out of here before any other terrorists came and caught them off guard.
"We need to go. Are there any others we need to look for?". She was already headed down the steps as she asked him that making sure her weapons were still in place. She was feeling a little light headed from the gunshot wound but she knew she had to tough this out.
Post by Thaddeus Walker on Oct 5, 2015 17:36:59 GMT -5
Thad watched her and looke down at Cory below. He was crouched over Darius, and at had couldn't tell what the kid was doing. He looked back at Bethany. "No more besides them. Only three men were gone, groups only went out in threes, and Garret made his way back with his two. We should go though. Once back at the church we can leave pronto."
He turned and started to climb the stairs down. He ran up to Cory and looked down at the sniper. Darius spoke as he approached. "I'm no good man," he said looking up at a Thad.
"What do you mean," Thad asked his comrade, brother in arms.
"I'm shot so shit. I'm bleeding out all over. I will be gone before we even get back to the church. We don't have to supplies to fix me, I'm done. I can't walk, my gut's shot, and I feel my shirt sticking to the blood."
"We aren't leaving you, you'll be fine. Now let's go."
"No you have to leave me. I'll slow you down, and will just turn. There's nothing you can do. Get Cory, and leave. Go Thad."
"I can't," Thad said getting lower to the man, "I can't just leave a brother behind."
"Thad we need to go. We can't save him. The girl's hurt, we can at leaSt saw him," Cory said, "let's go before things get worse."
Thad stood up, "alright let's move. Good bye Darius. Honour fighting beside you these last few years."
"Same with you brother, now go."
Thad turned, making his way to the entrance. Cory followed, holding his gun and bag tightly. Thad knew Bethany would be right behind them. Once at her car Thad got in, slid into the driver seat. Cory took the back and Thad waited for Bethany to speak.
He heard one last shot, echoing though the mall. Thad knew what it was but didn't resct, instead just remained looking ahead.
