The sun rose up across Louisiana splashing the buildings and trees with a low, orange glow. At first, the damp blue glow of the sky reflecting down upon the city was a glimmer of hope for a new day, until the sun rose and allowed shadows to creep slowly. Shuffling walkers didn't care if it was night or day as instinct took them to where fresh meat may lay. City walkers had spread to the country, to the swamps, to the farmlands in their quest to remain functional and it was still a mystery as to why they were the way they were. It was still a mystery knowing if the living would last one more day.
Remy woke up from her long slumber. The wine had knocked her right out while the others were talking and drinking. June hadn't been able to hold down her wine well and Anthony opened his mouth far too much the night before. She wasn't sure when Luca had joined her in bed but as she opened her eyes, his remained closed, mired in a deep sleep. She wanted to get herself moving at first light, thinking of the many things she had to do. Her first stop was her alumni.
She kept her eyes on him for a few moments as her breathing became a little deeper, waking up and getting used to the low light in the room. The covers had been pushed down to the end of the bed as they slept, dealing with the humidity but thankfully this morning air cooled the room. As she thought about the night before, she thought about the song he sang and hoped there was little truth to it. Maybe the wine was making her think too much about it last night. It was just a song after all, right? She reached her fingertips to his hair, gently stroking just over his ear before trailing them lightly down his jaw while she whispered into his sleeping mind.
"You make me happy, Luca. You should know that."
She would leave him sleeping as she gently peeled herself out of the bed. She would keep wearing the tank t-shirt with the embroidered with little roses all over it, while quietly opening a drawer to slip on a pair of clean jeans and socks. She hoped the others would be able to scrounge for some clean clothes also and she would keep her eyes open on the Dollar stores and other places where she knew clothing were stocked. With any luck, they hadn't been looted already, but her hopes weren't high on that option. She grabbed a white, button up shirt that normally would have been worn with a business suit, but instead, it was more protection against the elements now.
Instead of just up and leaving like she normally would, she decided to leave Luca a note this time. She didn't want him to follow her ..again...and wonder what she was up to. She wanted him to stay at the apartment and help secure it further. She wanted him to stay and help protect the group as it had grown larger after their arrival. She moved to her night stand and found an old pad of paper and a pen that still seemed to work.
~Luca, I need to go into town for a bit. I'll be at Tulane looking for supplies and some ponds that we can fish in. Please don't follow this time. I need you to stay at the apartments and help everyone settle in or help them be on their way if they choose to go. I'll be fine on my own and I'll be back in a few hours. Remy~
She quietly tore the page away from the pad and left the note on top of her pillow for him to find. Worried it would blow away from the light breeze in the window, she pulled off the ring her mother had given her with the elephants on it to weight it down before quietly moving out of the room. She grabbed the nail bat and machete next to the bedroom door as her weapons of choice The others were sleeping around her apartment and she did her best to leave them sleeping as she headed downstairs to let herself slip away.
