A little over twenty four hundred miles, thats how far she went going from georgia to california. Some of it was by car, some of it even by a bike she found but most of it was on foot. She wasn't planning to get to california, She had no real plan at all but she made it there eventually. A handful of groups, a lot of dead walkers and some serious mental and emotional pain later she was in california. She didn't remain there longer though as another tenty four hundred some odd miles laid in front of her. She thought for some reason with each state line she crossed that she was going to find a town untouched, a whole state even but she never found it. Each place she came across was utterly crushed, destroyed. Everything was in ruins. So alex robbed a few stores of their remaining supplies. She found a few electronic devices, some batteries, a couple of maps and she picked her destination. She thought maybe an island would be the best place to go. Hawaii.
With her destination in mind she rounded up all the food she could. She didn't have a lot and she knew she would have to starve most of the time but she found enough to get by. Alex found a row boat with sails. It was mostly untouched by the world around it and though it was little it would do. She packed everything she could find into it, made one last run at a few shops in town and set out from there. Alex really thought that Hawaii might be untouched by everything that had happened, even after all she had seen. What she wasn't prepared for though was the harsh travel she had thrown herself into. While she gathered enough water for the trip she hadn't got together enough food. The journey lasted longer than she thought and sometimes she was forced to go days without food. She knew she had to make it last until she got there. So, Alex would go days without a bite and then eat enough to get her by. It took nearly 3 months but she made it. She made it to hawaii and learned almost instantly that it fell just like the rest of the world.
She wanted to grieve but she knew there was no time. She tucked herself away in a small gift shop the first night. She had just a little food left and she only ate enough to give her strength for a supply run. Her first night in hawaii was the worst night she had since she lost her family. It was the first time she was reminded of how truly lost things were. She hadn't seen another soul in months she wasn't even sure if there was anyone left. Just those damn things, those walking bodies. She had no bullets left, a couple of obviously used sharp weapons and the clothes on her back. She really could not bring herself to understand why she was left alone in this kind of a world.
Alex pulled herself together the next morning though. She headed out at the first sign of daylight and gathered what she could from a few surrounding places. Mostly just canned food. She found a few things that were useful, unopened and somewhat good looking. The next few days she spent simply hiding in the gift shop and looking out the windows every little while to see if she saw any bodies. She never looked for anyone living because she didn't expect to find them. She really thought she was alone in this world now. Eventually she knew she needed to head out again. She strapped an empty bone collector to her waist and took her backpack full of unloaded guns and sharp weapons. She carried one of her bolo machetes in her right hand and left the shop at morning.
Alex needed to find more food, a better place to hide and a good bed to sleep in for once. She expanded her radius of search and found a few places she hadn't seen yet. None of them held anything of use and she slowly began to feel like she wasn't going to find anything at all. That was when she came across another shop in the middle of a little town. She didn't see any moving bodies so she made her move. She approached the building, found a window on the side that was unlocked and she climbed inside. When she got up to her feet she looked around. A few shelves were knocked over, clothing racks were tipped, shirts and pairs of jeans were thrown about but there was no sign of blood, the windows to the building were cracked but still together. It certainly wasn't a place to hold up but she was just so surprised to see something still in good shape.
Alex finally moved from the window and she began to run through everything. She checked different isles, shelves, racks, She looked through everything trying to find some food, some ammo, anything she could use but there was nothing there other than household supplies and clothes. She kept searching though, she searched until she shoved a few clothing racks out of her way. The weight tipped them to the other side and sent them crashing down into a shelf. The weight of the racks sent the shelf falling backward. it smashed into one of the large windows and shattered it to pieces. Alex was quick to react. She ran and slid down to a ducked position behind one of the counters. she wasn't sure if the noise would attract any bodies so she took cover. She remained there for a moment. She heard no sounds, no moaning or growling. She thought she safe so she decided to poke her head out. Just as she did she heard the sound of a bell clinging. The front door had just came open.
Alex quickly dropped back down and slid her backpack off of her shoulders. she gripped the machete tightly and took a couple of deep breaths. She hadn't seen a walking body in months but she hadnt forgotten how to kill them. She just wasn't sure she was ready to fight one off. Of course, she hadn't actually looked to see if it was a body at the front door. She had just assumed since she hadn't seen another living person in so long.
