I gotta take a break.
Taking breaks wasn't Lola's forte. She always power-housed through everything. But her last run-in with survivors left her...for lack of better words, fucked. She had a full stock of meds and food. Already making it into North Carolina, Lola was sure that things would pick up finally. Traveling through the north during the winter was beyond brutal. Many nights unsure if survival was the right way to live, death looking warmer by the minute.
But now that summer was around, Lola was prepared for the hot sun....was. A couple of water bottles were no longer stuffed in her bag. They were lucky enough to not strip her of her weapons, but just take her supplies and rough her up. Clutching her skate board under one arm and holding her ribs with the other, Lola made it down the side of the street. Walking in some kind of gutter, just to stay in the shade.
Most people would think her motivation to find her brother would have burned out by now, but it was stronger now that ever. It was the only thing keeping Lola going. That was the only thing she was holding onto, only reason to stay alive. Anxiety start to creep into her brain as the negative thoughts swirled around the darkness.
What if you run out of meds? What if you are internally bleeding and your system can't take it? What if Liam is dead? Dead and walking around, eating other people.
Dark, dark thoughts clouded her mind until her knees buckled and pain shot up through her back. A rough landing had her doubled over and half laying on the road. Lola's eyes were closed and she couldn't help but just take deep laboring breaths to try to calm herself down. "Calm the fuck down, Lola." She said to herself as the sun beamed down on her face.
