Full Name: Anthony Burns
Aliases: None
Avatar Photo:
Age: Late 30s to early 40s
Race: White
Gender: Male
Height: 5'10
Appearance: Not necessarily what one would consider fat, but certainly not skinny. He is heavyset, indicative of a relatively sedentary lifestyle. He has short, dirty blond hair.
Clothing: Currently wearing a button down shirt tucked into slacks with dress shoes. He is missing the suit jacket and tie of his outfit. Also wearing his Notre Dame class ring and a Rolex.
Alignment: Chaotic neutral/true neutral
Occupation: Tax attorney
Where they are from: Miami, Florida
Relationships: None known
Weapons: A common butcher knife and a .38 revolver.
Items: A series of books he has in his bag, particularly philosophy books, a flashlight, a pack of Marlboro Reds with a lighter, Notre Dame class ring, Rolex watch, two flasks (one with water, one with whiskey).
Personality: Anthony is relatively quiet. In group situations, he seldom offers his opinion unless it is specifically requested. He is not afraid to lead and take charge if it is absolutely necessary, but would rather stay in the shadows to work and/or read. Anthony does his best to base his opinions regarding all moral/ethical decisions off of the various philosophies about which he has learned. Sometimes, this is seen as his downfall, as he can not make a decision that is truly "his." Often, he will quote Plato, Nietzsche, Rand, Hume, and many, many other authors and philosophers in justifying his opinions or ideas. Before the Apocalypse, Anthony was a workaholic attorney. Consequently, he never made time for friends, so it is hard for him to warm up to others. His respect is earned by evidence of the ability to critically think as well as intelligence. Coming from next to nothing, Anthony sees himself as a self-made man, and looks down on those who held low-skill jobs prior to the Apocalypse, as well as those who were born rich. Despite attending two Catholic universities, Anthony is not, nor was he ever, religious. He justifies his college choices as, "my best offers." Anthony is not antagonistic towards God, and does not dislike those who believe in God or any deity. He identifies himself as an "apatheist." He even, sometimes, expresses the desire to believe in God, but explains, "he just can't--it would be too convenient." Anthony is a self-identified moral relativist, meaning he does not see any action as objectively right or wrong, quoting Greek philosopher Protagoras in saying, "man is the measure of all things." Anthony believes that everyone has the power over their destiny
Special Skills and Strengths: Anthony is extremely well read, especially in philosophy and history. These skills gift him with an insight not many others have. In addition, his years as an attorney have given him nearly unmatched oratory skills--he is able to resolve conflicts between others using words and words alone (but only if need be; recall he is an introvert). When Anthony does speak, which is relatively seldom, he can rally people, reminding them that "hope is essential to the human condition."
Weaknesses and Flaws: Anthony is not a fit man. He does not possess much physical might, especially speed and stamina. Additionally, his devotion to writers and philosophers of the past has sometimes led him to make seemingly insensitive claims about the dead. Anthony's fondness for Ayn Rand has led him to sometimes adopt a "great man" view of life, and that only those meant to be alive will remain, leading others to become angry with him if they have lost loved ones. Anthony is self-trained with his pistol. Of course, he is not as skilled with a firearm as a police officer or member of the military (or even a gun enthusiast) would be. He can still contribute and hit targets, but is less skilled at efficiently reloading and shooting from a distance.
Prior to the Apocalypse: Before the Apocalypse, Anthony attended the University of Notre Dame for undergrad and Georgetown Law School. Performing near the top of his class at both institutions, Anthony was able to land a job wherever he wanted in the country. He chose Miami, Florida because the hustle and bustle and lights "made him forget about what was real" (in his words). Anthony is a workaholic--his life was work and money. Consequently, he never dated and is still a bachelor in his late 30s. This lifestyle has made him comparatively stoic and unemotional, as he has never had to care about those close to him. When he wasn't working, Anthony would burry himself in reading, leaving few proverbial stones unturned. Philosophers and authors from all corners of the earth and from all time periods were studied by Anthony. Anthony always did his best to synthesize the teachings of these different writers and develop his own theoretical philosophy. His philosophy is often only theoretical because his actions do not always align with his words. For example, Anthony often preaches that the strong survive and that the Apocalypse is simply natural and will, in time, correct itself (citing German philosopher Hegel). However, when push comes to shove, he demonstrates his compassion for those around him.
Post Apocalypse: Anthony was, expectedly, at work during the Apocalypse, which is why he is still in his suit minus the jacket and tie. When asked who he lost during the Apocalypse, Anthony laughingly answers "my clients and my favorite stripper." Anthony is not motivated to find someone or to reach some destination--he often admits that he is simply following his instinct to survive. Anthony prefers to resolve things with words (as was his profession) but will not hesitate to use violence if necessary for his well-being. Anthony tends to always be pro-alliance (he never wants to turn newcomers away, as he sees safety in numbers). As stated before, Anthony will often be accused of not forming his own opinions, and has been told that he "lets men that have been dead for 200 years do the thinking for him." Anthony tends to reject this, calling his accuser "ignorant" and "uneducated." That being said, Anthony demonstrates his caring nature when he needs to. Sometimes he will share an inspirational quote or idea, or give someone a trinket or even one of his prized books to show he cares. One of his favorite (and most unpopular) claims among other survivors is that there may not be anything wrong about with the Apocalypse, citing German philosopher Georg Hegel in saying, "genuine tragedies in the world are not conflicts between right and wrong. They are conflicts between two rights."
