Acer stood at the end of the driveway where bricks were coming loose as the roots from untrimmed trees were pushing them up. Without proper care the trees, moss, roots and weeds were growing wild, but that was okay with him.
As he stood at the gate, his hands wrapped around the cold, wrought iron and he looked up to the arched sign that was at the top of the gate. It was rich people's way of trying to be different from each other by giving their mansions, cars and boats stupid names. This one just happened to be Seeshell. As he looked up he could see the second S in the sign starting to slip. It was falling and hanging upside down and he knew the next storm would likely make it fall to the ground. He liked the name of what would be left. He smirked as he looked back down the streets. Downed branches, abandoned cars and walkers. The district had thinned out a bit, but they were still out there. They were driven from the city due to lack of warm bodies and fresh blood. They picked this particular antebellum due to the gate that surrounded the house and he knew it was a state official's home. Paperwork, books and the library gave that away.
Everyone else was still back inside as he took a break from the latest 'catch of the day'. He looked down at his hands that were covered in drying blood that left what seemed to be a permanent crimson stain on his hands. maybe it was just something he was getting used to, but as many times as he washed his hands, he could swear the faint tint of blood never really went away. He looked over his shoulder as he heard someone open the front door and call out as chains rattled in his hands.
"Hey Acer! What do you want us to do next with him?"
