Mia smirked at Nate. She figured if he wanted to go try to get some food, that was fine. They needed to eat. She blinked as Emre came in with an attitude. Wow. She glanced at Nate and Finn. What the fuck was that about? She didn't say anything, since Dannie called him on it.
She glanced at Dale, " of they are gonna go and hunt, want me to go with you to the river?" She looked at Finn," less you want his help in the barn, and when we go looking for a gennie, I won't be much help, so if anyone would want to ride with is, wouldn't hurt."
She watched Liz and Sterling make their way in and she scanned Sterling. He looked wore out, but seemed to be alright.
Nate looked at Sterling and Liz come down. He was glad they were up. It seemed everyone but Verran and Jake were up. He wondered if either one wanted to come with him and Hykeem. It would be good to have another person and with this girl joining they could afford taking another person, that was if she did.
He brushed off Emre rudeness and remarks, he seemed nicer last time they spoke, he wondered what changed or if the first time was just a mask.
"We should make a list of who's doing what and what we need done," he siad addressing the group, "keep order of what's going on. Even if it's just a verbal list it will help. Give everyone a task to be done so everyone pulls their weight. If people need to double up, like myself or Hykeem, we can. People healing like Sterling and Mia can have lighter tasks but still help out with many things." He paused and looked at everyone, "first we need to decide if the girl is going to stay. As before we need a vote. Can some one grab Verran and Jake so we can begin. I say she can stay."

Jake took his time to wake up and finally decided to join the others. He walked over to Dale and was just in time to hear Mia talk about taking Dale to the river. “Finally awake, so good morning everyone.” Jake said not knowing if he should call it morning. “Mia I couldn’t help to overhear you and if it’s ok for both you guys I’ll take Dale to the river.” He said with a little smile as he looked at her. He was almost sure Mia would understand, they were becoming best friends and she knew he wanted to get a better bond between him and Dale.
“That is if you are up for it?” he asked in a friendly tone while he looked at Dale but he reminded to speak a bit louder when he had to talk to Dale or ask him something, cause in the journey he learned that Dale his hearing wasn’t that good. Veran was still asleep so it was a good opportunity to get to know Dale a bit. The feelings between him and the pirate where real and they were growing every day, so it was only normal that he wanted to see how Dale was handling the situation. Jake liked kids and teenagers, but Veran told him about all the bad things that happened with other boyfriends and all he wanted was to show Dale he wasn’t like that.
“If you don’t want to go to the river we can always go for the driving lessons, I still remember I promised that.” Jake said with a smile.
Dale was torn between Mia and Jake about the river, and he didn't really know how he felt about being around Jake alone so soon. He looked over to Mia, and licked the inside of his lip, and then back at Jake and did it again. It was his overly obvious nervous tick that he didn't even realize he did. He sigh lightly and looked back at Finn and shrugged, "If you haven't left by the time I get back, I'll help you out."
He looked over to Mia and smiled, "I think I'll go with Jake. Give him a chance to get right with me. Besides, it's not like I'd witness you in a hot swimming suit or anything, right? That's for Nate. He wouldn't wanna miss that." Dale was obviously joking, smirking and chuckling silently after he said it, and he hoped she knew that. "All right, let's go Jake." He said as he got up and quickly packed up his gear. He walked out the door quickly, waving at the others as he passed, and nearly hopped over the young woman who sat at their steps as he rushed out the door, and waited for Jake at the tree lines.

As he approached the group, they didn't seem to happy. Jeez, wonder what was up with them. Emre looked confused for a moment, but quickly brushed off with a smile. Dannie asked if he'd woken up on the wrong side of the bed, well with that dream he had earlier, he wasn't too thrilled. "Yeah, I suppose you could say that" he said with a grin. Everyone began talking chores, well it was gonna come into play eventually. Nate did mention a girl staying or not, jesus christ, what the hell happened while he was gone? "Wait, someone else showed up here?". He really did need to work on his sleeping times from now on, he was missing too much stuff.
(My greeting was meant in more of comedic way than a rude way xD sorry)
Mia stood there next to Nate, but Dales words made her mouth drop open. She could not believe he said that," well, um, " damnit, she needed a witty come back. She was pleased Dale wanted to spend time with Jake.
Mia looked at Jake and grinned," Jake maybe you can explain how to talk to women to him." She winked at Jake and chuckled," Dale, you need better lines!" She grinned, speaking up a bit as she addressed him." Hell, Naye has nt seen me in a skimpy bikini either!" She laughed but got serious as Dannie mentioned chores. That sounded fair to her. They did need to set up some kind of detail. Everyone given a job to do. It was what she was more used to and would give her something to focus on. She glanced at Nate, and then the others. Emre seemed off, but he looked alright. She spoke to him," you sleeping ok?" Maybe it wasn't that he was pissy, just tired? She smiled at him," I think we all suffer from bad nights." She was trying to ease any tension.
Nate just laughed at Dale and Mia's reaction to her comment. "Yeah no bikini but something much better. Something more freeing. Isn't that right Mia," he asked smirking and warping hisbarms tightly around her. He laughed an let go. Everyone seemed set on doin there own thing. Not a single person so far mentioned the girl or he fate. No one mentioned what had to be done. They wanted chaos instead of order. Fine they want chaos, let them have chaos. He'd join in with them doing whatever he pleased. Fuck the girl and safety let's go swimming and running around like children.
Nate looked at Sterling then Dannie. He hoped they would say something, bring order back to the cabin before everyone left. If no one said anything then he guessed the decison fell on him and Hykeem, and that woul mean she stays.
Sterling chuckled a little at Liz's little jab. He was curious about her darker side but he would leave it be for now. They had been learning a lot about each other but he didn't want to make it feel rushed, and further, he trusted her. She would tell him in time or he would eventually ask.
"Well maybe if I didn't have such a beautiful distraction first thing in the morning I would get up sooner."
He smiled at his little joke, let the others make sense of it and assume what they would. He had to get his own jabs in as well or she might just think that he was slow.
He looked over to the newcomer and heard Nate's question about her staying. He looked her over, trying to size her up like he would a suspect, looking for anything that would be alarming. He couldn't see anything right off the bat so he nodded and said.
"I see no reason why she shouldn't stay, so long as she doesn't cause any problems and pulls her weight. I don't want this to become like the place we all just left. Welcome to the crew new girl."
When Emre came in and dropped the F-bomb two times Finn thought nothing of it. Still, Mia gave him a wondering look. They obviously weren't used to this kind of behavior, but being from The Town, Finn was used to much, much worse.
Nate explained on what needed to be done, and asked for a vote to be cast to their recent arrival. Being the new guy himself, Finn didn't feel obliged to cast a vote, he felt like it wasn't his place. Or at least not yet. Finn just kept following the conversation. The next one up was the gay guy Jake, who just flatout ignored Nate and wanted to take Dale to the river. Right, swimming in a pool of blurry water that could contain walkers... now there was a good idea. When Dale offered his help though, Finn gave him a nod before the kid went out and left with Jake.
Mia appeared to be quite the tease, and apparently had some sort of thing going on with Nate. There was obviously some tension of the sexual kind between the two. As long as they'd work it out in private Finn had no problem with it. He could however notice the frustration in Nate when everybody flatout ignored his call to vote about the new arrival's fate and honestly he couldn't blame him. If it weren't for the fact he was new as well Finn would've spoken up about it and called the others back, but he felt like he couldn't do something like that just yet.
Finn got up and shrugged at Nate, saying "Yeah bro, I don't know what they're thinking either" without actually speaking. He gave Dannie a look, seeing as she was the one in charge Finn felt like she was going to speak up about it at any time. Still, he felt like he should give her a little push. He grabbed his assault rifle and slung it on his back.
"So yeah... meeting adjourned I guess?" Finn asked. "If nothing else I'll get to dismantling that barn until we're ready to hit the town."
Finn was a worker, not a slacker. He had to keep himself busy all day and work out ideas. And they had a lot of work to be done before this place was secure. The fact that the others saw fit to go swimming without so much as securing the stronghold, and ignoring a new arrival rubbed him the wrong way. If that woman was pulsing to come back with a bigger group later and saw how things went in their group, they'd be in big trouble.

Lyndsie remained at her "station" next to the wooden pillar of the cabin at the top step, one leg lowered to the lower step while the other was pulled mostly to her chest with her left arm resting on it. Her expression was that of someone waiting to be judged and knowing it was coming, but it was neutral in that she wasn't optimistic or pessimistic; she wasn't thinking the group would allow her to stay or would send her away, but was prepared to leave if it was the latter choice. She heard a couple of the group members make some comments towards the subject of her staying, amongst everyone else talking about something else, completely ignoring the said subject. That did annoy her, but as she was an aspiring new arrival to the group and was hoping the tide would change in turn if she was to join, she held her tongue and merely waited for the official green light for the votes.

It wasn’t until now that Jake noticed a new girl standing at the cabin. “I obviously missed something.” He said as he looked at her. But he didn’t know they were deciding if she could stay, cause because he was talking to Dale and Mia he didn’t hear anything they were saying. Jake smiled as Dale said he would go with him, but shortly after he let out a little laugh as Dale talked about Mia being in a bikini, followed by a comment of Mia. “Hahahaha I guess I can try to give some tips for that too.” He said while still laughing. “That is if you want some tips on how to flirt buddy.” Jake said as he looked at Dale. Then he heard how Dale said he was ready. “Well ok we’ll go, but when we get back I want to find out who the girl is.” Jake said. “For now I’ll just give her a wave and a smile.” He added while he did what he just said and waved at the girl with a smile. Then he walked started walking away.
Mia listened to everyone. She hadn't said anything about the girl. It seemed kinda pointless to. Dannie was taking the leader role and if she said the girl stayed, she stayed, if not, she didn't. She glanced at Nate, and shrugged, "I really don't have a say, if the leaders say she stays, she stays, if not, she doesn't. I don't want to make those choices, I just wanna help out and take care of what I know, medicine." Was that too hard to accept? She didn't wanna be the heavy, or make the major decisions. She just wanted to take care of the things she knew and understood. There was less blame if something went wrong, that way.
"I guess that's alright. It was one of the things I didn't like about bear lake but it's alright. I thought we made it so everyone had to say, don't elect leaders. I thought it was everyone had the say and we shared every thing equally. Power for one person leads to a dictatorship. Next thing we know we'll be forcing others to shoot unarmed men. I don't want that," Nate said folding his arms. "But it seems like no one wants their say." He watched Jake leave after Dale and sighed. No one wanted to make a decision. If this is what the were going to do then they would fall fast. They needed to be quickt and calculated not pussy foot around the situation. "Has anyone seen Veran? If we are having leaders we need to know who they are. It can't just fall on one person. It doesn't end well, the weight is to much. Trust me I know. We either need a council, like the dreaded lake, or we all vote."
Dannie liked the way Nate seemed to be stepping up to the plate as everyone chimed in with their own thoughts on what to do and where to go. Finn could go and dismantle the barn, but it seemed like Dale wasn't going to be a part of that. She also knew Nate was right about one person being in control. She didn't mind helping out and putting in her thoughts on what she thought was best, but she did take up that role and offered advice on who should be doing what jobs. First, she looked at Lyndsie and Emre.
"Emre, since you know what to do, why don't you take this new girl inside and forage in the kitchen, see what you can get us to eat. Get a fire started and maybe look around the woods and see if there are any edible berries or mushrooms we can gather to make a stew."
She looked at Sterling and Liz who spent the night together. She didn't really care if they coupled here, but she wanted to make sure everyone contributed.
"Sterling can't do anything heavy yet. Not until he heals completely. Liz, why don't you and Mia go and set up a medical area for yourselves. I have a feeling that's a priority we'll need in place. Nate, you and Sterling can head down to the river, see if you can get us some water we can boil and go fishing. Maybe take Jake, Veran and Dale with you. I'm going to work on getting out weapons laid out and securing the house. I'm going to go out later today and see if I can get supplies from the other houses."
She paused for a second as she considered his words about who should be in charge and who should do what jobs.
"Once we've finished doing some work and getting settled here, I think we can all sit down in front of the fireplace and hash out what jobs we all need to do. What do you all think?"
Hykeem entered the cabin as Dannie finished giving out orders. He didn't hear her say anything about him which made his day easier because he could do what he was planning before the meeting. The group would need some type of protein and fat producer and Hykeem would handle that even if he didn't have his friend at his side. Before he entered the cabin he heard them each comment a little about a political system within the group.
"I guess I'll do all the hunting on my own."
He gave Dannie a big smile before continuing on with his comments.
"And as for our governing body. I'm not really into the council thing either but we have some people who just don't want a say in the problems we have. I don't think we should force those people into doing what they don't want to. Therefore a council would benefit us to the fullest."
He figured the group already knew his vote on the New Group Member seeing that he was the reason she was with them now and didn't put any say in the matter.
Mia glanced around, she had started something. She frowned, 'I have an opinion, I just don't think we should spend all day arguing and hashing shit out, over and over. It would be easier for a couple people to sit down and do that, instead of all of us, trying to sit down and go over every little detail. I don't care if the new girl stays. That is up to her. Long as she pulls her weight and helps, it's fine with me. " She glanced at Nate, "I think we should do what Dannie said, sit down tonight and work out the details. We have a group here, and it would take one or two to go around and talk to people, get their opinions and make the final decisions based off what others thought. "
Mia looked over at Liz, "Like me and Liz, any of you know what medicines we need to look for, what supplies we need to have on hand? We do, she and I should take care of that. Be in charge of that. Since we have the knowledge and back ground, that's all I am saying. We can go out with a small group, find supplies we need. We don;t need to sit down and have a fucking 2 hour debate over what we should do about it, look for and have everyone agree on that." She shrugged, 'You wanted to know what I think, that's what I think. I think people who have some kind of knowledge or background should be in charge of certain areas, we should have a few key people that make final decisions based off that." Mia looked at Nate. She hoped he didn't think she didn't care, she did, she just didn't think they needed to put every issue to a damn vote.
"Jake and Dale jus left," Nate said looking at Dannie, "Sterling could go with them. Hykeem and I were going to go hunting. We need food too. We could take Verran along. Divid it into three. Hykeem shouldn't go alone. Someone needs to go with him."
He nodded at her last part, "that sounds like a good idea. Get settled then come up with the plan. Make sure we have everything organized. We can function without it." He looked at the others that were still here.
Slowly he turne his attention to Hykeem, "let's get that truck cleared. Maybe wake Verran, guys missing all the important parts."
Lyndsie watched the group quietly, standing to her full height while crossing her arms over her chest while she gathered what she figured was the intents and votes of everyone before she spoke, mustering up a small smile. "Well, then. My name's Lyndsie, I'm a former professional racer. How do you do?", she asked kindly, asking this of the people that were there at the moment, not knowing if they had any plans to go out or if they were staying inside the cabin area..and if they were splitting, which she should go with.
Liz laughed and kissed Sterling's cheek as she came down the stairs, hearing the plan that was already being put in place. She could certainly go along with setting up a medical area, although they would need to go and try to find stuff. She recalled a little chain drugstore at the foot of the mountain next to a grocery store, but she had a feeling that had already been cleaned out.
"Check the medicine closets in homes. We can use any prescriptions and medicines you can find. Anything from cold medicine to blood pressure medicine."
She also knew a mortar and pestle would come in handy for them to use and make their own herbs and medicine, but those seemed to be such a rarity to find. She knew there would be some natural remedies they could find. "I wouldn't mind going out and exploring some of the plants. If we could find some blood root and elderberries we can at least start there. I studied natural remedies in college, although I don't quite remember everything that can be used. It's times like this that I miss the internet."
She smiled sadly as she said that, but they could always experiment on different plants to pass the time. Between her and Mia, she was certain they could figure out ways to use the resources around them. "We should get some water stocked up here too. Me and Mia could boil up fresh water and store it somewhere. It's a good idea to have extra on hand in case someone gets hurt."
She looked up and saw the little loft that could be transformed into a two bed clinic.
"What about up there Mia? Do you think we could set up there or should we use one of the rooms for privacy?"
Mia was a little relieved when Liz backed her up on the medical stuff. The woman had good ideas. She looked at the loft," for basic medical stuff, yea it should work great. If the person is more serious or possibly contagious we can use one of the bed rooms." She agreed they needed to stock up some water," we can set up rain barrels and collect water and start boiling it up, no problem." She smiled at Liz. They were gonna get along just fine.
She looked at Nate. He hadn't said anything really about her opinions. She hoped he was not upset with her. She reached out and took his hand , giving it a little squeeze ." We can look for meds when we go to find that generator. "
Shauna Kelly: That helped, thank you
