After some stops and switching people around in the vehicles the group finally reached the meeting spot. Veran was back in Jake his car, so after all the switching they were almost back in starting positions, almost cause Dale was not with them. The last days had been hard and very chaotic, but things were better now. The plan changed a couple times as well, but the end decision was to go to the meeting spot, without any more stops then they already made. Mia was doing ok, but wasn’t fully healed yet, so she needed a place where they were all safe, so she could rest.
“Finally some rest huh.” Jake said with a smile as he used his free hand to softly grab Veran his hand, while keeping his eyes on the road. That rest was needed, everyone was exhausted. “We will be there any seconds now.” He added with the same smile while still holding Veran his hand. “How are you doing, cause these days kind of sucked?” Jake asked softly as he used his thumb to stroke Veran his hand while looking at him. Shortly after he turned is head bad at the road. He already started to lower the speed of his car as he noticed they where nearly there.
(Ok I thought I try an intro, cause our thread was a bit stuck. Sorry if there are parts that you wanted different. Mia if you want to rp about how the bullet was taken care of ect, feel free you can always tell what happened and then continue to reply to my post. Also Finn I didn’t add anything about where you are now cause I don’t know hehe, so you can decide if you are with us or ran into Dannie and the others while burying Eva. So yeah sorry if I forgot something, I can always edit )
Finn had followed the group to their destination AT the meeting point. It gave him some time to bury Eva. He put the final rock on top of Eva's grave. He had improvised a cross from two wooden boards and carved her name on it. He kept her badge in his hand, debating on whether or not he should put it on the cross, but decided not to do it. Even in this world people still had a strong dislike for former law enforcement people and putting the badge on her grave might cause it to get vandalized. He'd also keep the rest of her stuff, it just didn't feel right to leave them with her. They belonged to her, true. But the thought of them getting stolen from her grave... he couldn't bear it.
Another thing he'd keep on his person was the picture they managed to take together from an old polaroid camera. She laughed on it while Finn was only able to muster a smile. She always was the eternal optimist where as he was the realist. She believed mankind could be saved, Finn believed it to be doomed. But they made a great team together regardless, even if they were on opposite sides of the law before this whole mess began. Finn had lost the only person in the world who believed he wasn't the bad guy people always told he was. Even before all the heists and crime, when he was young people, including those who were supposed to take care of him at the orphanage, told him he was no good just because of who his father was.
But Eva saw past that. She saw past his crimes and the things he had done, and saw him for the human being he was and treated him accordingly. Life without her was going to be hard, but she'd want him to survive. And she'd want him to keep believing in humankind, even when it was on the brink of extinction. It seemed like an impossible goal, but he'd at least keep trying to honor her memory.
Finn sat down in front of Eva's grave. He wanted to be close to her as they'd probably moved out soon away from this place, and it seemed unlikely he'd ever return here again. It was just so impossible to think she was alive a few hours ago, not knowing she'd be dead by the time evening had fallen.
Dannie had Hykeem gather up Liz and Sterling, who went inside the gas station and were caught getting close. She had seen Sterling flirting with the girl, but she had seen him flirting before all this happened. She knew he loved his wife very much, but what was the harm in turning on the charm? She never really thought anything of it then and she certainly didn't think anything about it now. She just assumed he was still hung up on his wife even though he claimed he wasn't.
Thankfully Sterling had swiped a map from the store along with anything else that was left on the shelves and they took to the road. There were lots of signs pointing towards the Farm and Home center which she found to be odd. Coming from a big city, she knew how hard things could be to find, especially to tourists and any number of strangers that were getting twisted up by one-way streets. She lost count how many times someone would come up to her, feeling safe as they saw her in a uniform, and asked directions to The Loop, or the City Centre, or any number of locations in Chicago.
It only took about twenty minutes to get there, but when they did, she saw other cars. She never did see Jake's car back in Colorado since she was already inside the cabin when he rolled up on her and Emre. The tires came to a stop and she looked to Sterling with Liz still in the back. If anyone was coming out of the building or the other cars, it would be obvious to them who had just arrived since they were in Sterling's patrol car.
"We're here. I know you're injured, but do you want to stay here while I check it out or do you want to come?"
Mia did need the rest. She had managed to talk Veran through sewing her up. That would never be pretty , but all in all, she had been lucky. Two little scars on her shoulder was a lot easier than it would have been to dig a bullet out and other complications.
She had to give the Pirate credit. Not once, through the whole procedure did he slip into his persona. He had spoken plain with her and followed her directions she hadn't really had any anesetic , so some booze they had scavanged had helped her through.
The wound was sore , but bandaged . She was popping antibiotics , but didn't want to use up the few painkillers they had. So long as she didn't get a fever, she figured she would be alright. She didn't have full use, but she thought as it healed she would.
She sat in the truck, writing. She had been keeping a medical journal on everyone at Bear Lake for years, and the habit was hard to break. She had found some pieces of paper and a worn out folder on one stop. She was keeping notes of her condition and of the others as well.
So far, everyone was in decent health. Morale was a whole nother matter. Five days since the gas station. Mia would not have believed how much can happen in such short time. She shoved the folder in her pack and got out. She moved with her arm resting at her waist, and looked for the others.
She had just gone inside when a car pulled up. She stood, staring. Honestly, she did not think anyone would show up. She just stared, and the. Called out to those in the back of the place,"Hey!! We have company!!!"
Hykeem again pulled his car up beside the patrol car. The ride had been peaceful but boring. Hopefully they had finally reached the destination. He put his vehicle in park and shut it off before climbing from his seat. He leaned his chair forward placing his sniper in the back seat and reaching in his black equipment bag placing his mask in it and grabbing an assault rifle.
He ducked back out of the vehicle outing the seat back in its standard position. After closing the door he attached the assault rifle to his neck strap and leaned it against the car. He then reached into his pocket pulling out the bag of skittles he found at the gas station.
Leaning against the car eating some of the skittles. It had been a minute or two now and the people inside had to have known they were there now. If there was someone actually inside the building.
Five days. Five long days, that's how long they'd been here waiting. Nate had begun to block the windows with shelving units, but the place was still unsecure. He was in the back breaking down a shelf when he heard Mia call.
Mia, Nate admired her. She was tough. Got shot and practically stitched herself. Nat's felt useless then. He couldn't help her, he couldn't heal her. The pirate patched her up, and Nate did nothing. He was at her side after that, never leaving her alone to long. They still handy gotten a moment to talk alone. It had been all work an no play.
Nate grabbed his rifle and moved to the front of the store. "Stay down," he said to Mia, "we don't know it's them."
He kept his sights trained and saw a man step out of a second car. Was that? Was that Hykeem? It couldn't be. They had left before Hykeem even returned. His friend couldn't be here.
Nate didn't want to shoot, he waited for the other group to make a move.
Hearing the sound of cars stopping, Finn grabbed his HK416 assault rifle and towards the corner of the drugstore and took a peek. Two women and two men got out of a car and went toward the place where the others were at. Finn went around the back and inside, and ducked down towards Nate. Mia had already warned the others about the arrival so Finn wouldn't have to anymore.
"Two men and two women in front." Finn said with a hushed voice. "Know any of them? What's the plan here?"
Sterling saw Jakes car, or at least the car he figured must be Jake's since he had seen it outside of the cabin when he pulled up. Being the last one to the party had it's advantages. He looked at Dannie. He was still injured sure but he didn't want to feel useless.
"Jake, Emre, it's Sterling and Dannie. The nurse, Liz, came with us. As did Hykeem."
He walked slowly fowl Rd and caught site of a couple of the people. There was Jake, and Emre. Some pirate looking fuck was in the background. Seriously? A pirate? Whatever, he thought to himself, there's nothing I can do about that insanity. He leaned on Liz a little bit. It was still tiring to walk on his own. Maybe they could find a cane in here that he could use. It would make him look a bit ridiculous but it would be helpful so he would just eat his pride. If they could find one of course.
"You gonna let us in? There's a man in there I need to thank for sticking his neck out for me."
Liz stepped out of the car behind Sterling. If there were others here she didn't want them to see her assisting him. She knew better. He would have to look strong on his own, but she was there to help him get out of the car. He started calling out names of people she didn't know so all she could do was follow behind.
Clearly he recognized someone and they had been speaking about a meeting point their trip here. Others from Bear Lake Settlement would be here, although she really wasn't sure how many more were kicked out. She knew the other nurse was here as she had heard she left to go with a group. She could only assume hearing a familiar voice would help.
"Mia? Are you with them? It's..it's Liz. From the Settlement. The other nurse. We're here. We're okay."

Jake just got all the stuff inside as he heard cars pulling up, shortly followed by Mia yelling they had company. Jake was a bit on edge since what happened with the bandits, so his reaction was immediately to grab his gun for the holster. He didn’t raise hit yet, since he wasn’t outside, so he couldn’t see whoever was coming, but he kept it ready. Nate seemed a bit on edge as well, he told Mia to stay down and to wait. “Nate is right, we don’t know if it is Dannie and Sterling.” He said softly.
Second later Finn told them it were two man and two woman, which caused Jake to get nervous. They where only expecting Dannie and Sterling, who where the two others. “Then I don’t know if it’s them.” Jake whispered as he peeked outside the window. Then he noticed Sterling and Dannie, Sterling noticed him too since he called Jake his name and asked if they could come in. Jake smiled and opened the door as he lowered his gun and put it back in the holster. “Glad you guys are ok.” He said with a smile as he waited for them to get in.
Dannie pulled out her gun as she started to walk towards the front of the store. The other cars were there and she really hoped one of them was Jakes. Sterling called out his name, having confidence he was inside. She didn't want another ambush like back in Colorado. They didn't have the energy to engage in another fight.
"Jake? Is that you?"
She saw him come out of hiding and her gun went back in the holster under her arm. She could see that Liz had Sterling's back and she smiled as she looked at Jake.
"I hope you didn't have to wait long for us. But you know, Sterling with that gunshot wound and all."
She moved towards the group, looking around. She could only assume they had cleared the building or at least this part of it from looters and walkers. She didn't want to stay here long at all. As a matter of fact, if they could gather everyone up she would leave tonight. Her eyes started to fall on the various goods and decor that lined the shelves. All useless junk that was still sitting in piles, although some of it could be useful.
"We need to get as much as we can carry with us when we leave. Tools, sheets, towels, whatever you can find that we can use. Anyone who is injured can be treated by Liz and Mia.
Her arm was still a little sore, but it was usable. She knew where she wanted to go and it was just a matter of getting there. She also knew with all the farm equipment they could find the fuel they needed for their cars and guns and ammo in the sporting goods section. This town wasn't that big and she figured not many had come to raid this place. It looked in tact without being looted too much.

Nate saw Jake step out and quickly followed. His gun was still raised, ready to fire, ready to kill. After what happened with the bandits Nate wasn't taking any chances. He couldn't let anyone get hurt like Mia had.
He saw Jake relax and speak to the approaching group. Then he saw Hykeem. Nate lowered his gun. He almost didn't belive it was him. If there wasn't anyone he'd rather see. Nate smiled at stepped toward the group.
Exitending his hand he Beemer ear from ear. "I'm Nate. Glad to see you all made it okay. I had lost hope for a bit there. Could to see the rug munchers didn't slow you down."
The female, whom he assumed was the one Charlie and Ellen called the bitch, started giving orders. Nate just sighed, "we've been here for five days. We've gone over those shelves many times."
Mia stared out the window. She glanced at Nate, but when she saw the black man, she popped up. She glanced at Finn, and Nate, then the others, "That's Hykeem!" she started towards the door. She heard the man, Sterling talking, and saw him leaning on, Liz! She held her arm to her waist, and pushed out the door. She moved out toward them, "Liz! You came with them!' She looked over at Hykeem, "How are you doing? What happened? I never figured you to be the one to leave." She grinned at him. She had never met Sterling, or Dannie, officially.
She watched Sterling, remembering the way he looked in that tent. How Andrei and Jane , along with her had worked to keep him alive. She smiled at him, "Well, good to see you with your eyes open." She looked at Liz, and raised a brow, asking how he really was, without a word. She held onto the waist of her jeans to keep from using her left arm, but her right hand was animated. She glanced back inside, 'We didn't know if you all were going to show up, or not."
Hykeem watched as the building door was opened and the people inside exited. The first guy who came out Hykeem didn't recognize but the next two people where like family to him.
He looked at his friend Nate giving a friendly smile.
"Now we both know I wouldn't let a bunch of rug munchers stop us."
He then heard the feminine but hardened voice of Mia as she welcomed the group.
"It wasn't really my choice."
He walked towards Mia opening his arms for a hug. He hugged her tight before pulling away.
"Lets get to a more important topic. We need food and a bigger space. Any ideas?"
Finn stood up as soon as the others did. The people outside were the friends they were expecting. He sat down on a nearby counter and relaxed as they all got reacquainted. He kept quiet, watching everyone.
He made a mental note to speak to Mia later on, it was his fault she got shot after all and it happened when she was trying to help Eva. He was glad she pulled through but it just didn't feel right not apologizing to her. He knew Eva would do the same.
Nate and the one called Hykeem mentioned a bunch of rug munchers... Finn thought for a moment. 'Rug munchers'? Lesbians? Were they held captive by lesbians? Did the guy they were carrying got fucked up by lesbians? Damn.
"Equal rights, equal lefts." Finn thought for a moment. "You really can't underestimate anyone anymore."
The black man mentioned getting a bigger space and food and if anyone had some ideas. Finn had a couple, but he felt like it wasn't his place to speak up. He also knew that at some point he was going to have to admit what he used to do for a living. During the night, by a weird coincidence, he had mysteriously 'found' the combination for the safe in the back, which revealed a few boxes of bullets. He knew however that such an excuse was only going to work one time. He was going to have to admit to these people that he knew how to crack them at some point, and leaving the safes untouched just wasn't like him.
Mia was glad to see everyone. It was a sense of familiarity, especially Hykeem.
For a moment , seeing Liz made her pause. If she came, what did they need her for. That pause was enough for Hykeem to get his arm open and around her without Mia realizing it.
As he squeezed she groamed and squeeked out for him to be careful. She placed a hand on his chest and shifted her side ," easy tiger , not too tight." She glanced at Nate, letting him know she was alright and he didn't need to worry. She heard DNnie talk about finding supplies. What did she think they had been doing?
Someone mentioned a place with more space. She glanced up and saw Finn. He had those marked spots. She slowly headed over towars him." Lot to take in?" She leaned back against the counter. She glanced over at him," so. Any of those places you mentioned sound like that? Large space?" She smiled at him, hopeful that he would share any information he might have.
Finn was approached by Mia just after he thought about apologizing to her. She asked him if it was a lot to take him, and it kinda was. It had been a long time since he was part of a larger group, the first and only one being this community of survivors he and Eva had stumbled upon. Eva even had a boyfriend there, and Finn was just about to close the deal on this girl he liked too. Unfortunately the community got overrun by walkers due to carelessness and underestimating the walkers; and they had pretty much kept on their own ever since.
But now Eva was gone and Finn knew he couldn't make it on his own. He needed people, he was never one to be alone either. Mia asked if he any of the spots fitted the description but he honestly didn't know. Those bunkers seemed kind of tight within.
"I don't know..." Finn answered Mia. "I mean they're supposedly bunkers, and those tend to be small right? Eva and I were just planning to scavenge from them, assuming no one would be inside."
Finn looked at Mia's wound. She'd survive but he felt bad about nonetheless. He had brought the bandits on their case so he was responsible for her getting shot.
"Look... uh... Mia..." Finn said. "I haven't had the chance to thank you properly yet for what you did for me... for Eva. You came to our aid so fast... I uhh... feel really bad you got shot in the process. If there's ever anything I can do for ya, just... ask okay? I'm really grateful... to all of you in fact."
Finn gave her a slight smile and hoped she'd appreciate his apology.

He could hear how Dannie asked if it was really him. “Come here you, I missed both of you, even though we didn’t talk a lot, I just feel our bond got stronger because of all the shit that we have been through.” He said as he opened his arms and hugged Dannie. Then he turned to Sterling also with a smile. “Glad you are doing ok, I hope we are good cause I still feel a bit responsible for them shooting you.” He said softly.
Then Dannie said she hoped they didn’t have to wait too long. “No and besides you can never wait too long if you are reunited with your friends.” Jake said with a smile. Seconds later Dannie took once more lead and explained what would be best to do. “Yeah I agree, we have found many supplies already though.” Jake said. He thought Dannie would be a good person to lead the group, but that was his idea, he could hear that Nate was already a bit annoyed by it. Then he just waited as everyone introduced themselves and talked a bit. “Shall we get inside and talk there?” Jake asked.
Dannie returned the hug to Jake even though she barely knew him. They all barely knew each other when the shots were fired. The only one she really knew better than anyone was Sterling and he was in very good hands with the very capable Liz. She trusted this woman would take care of him and if she didn't there would be hell to pay. He had already been through so much. He was a brother to her now. She patted Sterling on the back and nodded about the fact they had already started gathering up supplies.
Walking up to Nate she offered a bit of condolences.
"I'm sorry you got kicked out because of us. I heard what happened. I do appreciate you sticking up for us, but those people....they have no idea what it's like out here. But I have an idea on where we should go."
She agreed with Jake to go back inside and discuss what their next plan of action would be. She had already spoken to Liz and Sterling and they agreed to get to Georgia. She waited for others to come in and looked towards Finn, who was a stranger amongst them. Honestly, they were all strangers to her but she had nothing against them wanting to join if they were looking for a new home.
"Well, me and Sterling spoke on our way here and we are thinking the mountains in Georgia. Blue Ridge. I went there with my parents when I was a kid and it seems ideal. Fresh streams and rivers, mountains, good hunting and fishing and pretty isolated cabins. I'm sure we could find a place to live and protect out there. The population is pretty small so I'm not expecting too much trouble with hordes. It is about two hours north of Atlanta though, so you never know. But, you know, we talked and if anyone wants to come with us, you're welcomed to come. I'm not looking to establish some crazy ass settlement like that place we were just shot up at. Just a place we can live and figure out how to survive."
Shauna Kelly: That helped, thank you
