The weather was being kind today. Leaving the safety that were their meager walls wasn’t what was bothering the mother. Sisa hated leaving Koya alone. Even if her child, her darling joy for life in this bleak life they lived, was safe in the care of her uncle Nick. It didn’t erase that gnawing feeling in the pit of her stomach that told her go back inside. Stay behind the walls and let these people protect themselves Sisa. The words floated along as lazily as the boats carrying two young woman armed with nothing but fishing rods and poles glided a crossed the lakes waters. The woman one named Ashley, the other Amber, weren’t far from Sisa’s age. Perhaps it was parenthood that separated the tan woman’s ability to get in these two clique. Not that it was much of a interest for Sisa. The young Peruvian mother was by far happier in the company of her child or even James then those two blonde airheads.. but by god could they fish.
Sisa watched the shoreline with vigilance. Armed with a Springfield M1903 and scope, with a pistol resting in the back of her pants Sisa looked through scope to scan the tree line again. The only things of importance to mention were a few shambling corpses that payed no attention to them oddly enough. Then she looked over toward the pitiful brick wall of the gates community and thought to herself. “We really should get those in proper shape.” If Sisa really felt up to the task even she could climb the damn thing and she wasn’t even a bandit with thievery on the brain. The raven haired mother sighed relaxing her shoulders the best she could, being outside the wall even with its pitiful state meant she had to stay vigilant. It was the only way to keep the dead from getting the jump on her or those girls she was protecting at the moment.
It wasn’t just the currant day to day survival that was on Sisa mind. Her thoughts of Zack always crept in like a sad memory. The way he would smile all big at her when she would yell at him. That time they road bikes in a summer camp and in a moment forgot what a shitty world. Him kissing her forehead after she had given birth to Koya on that old couch on Annie’s farm... it was thoughts like this that made crying inevitably. Sisa wiped away a tear and shook away her old lovers memory trying to stay focused.. “I miss you Zackary. You were stupid for looking for Nick by yourself. And now You left me a widow and your child fatherless” The words came out bitter with resent as she cursed a man who wasn’t there. Sisa eyes began to get puffy from the tears and irritated from the tears. “I need to stay focused.. this isn’t the time for a meltdown” Sisa complained to once again no one around her before she turned to watch the girls fishing. The morning sunlight hitting their blonde hair making a glow. Sisa forced a smile and waved over at them in their boat. Amber and Ashley bother waved back but little did Sisa know they were waving in warning of a corpse that had strayed away from the trees. He was silent in his shamble toward the unawaremother.
